Detailed Reviews
Had a most enjoyable stay. We were welcomed by our friendly hosts Vanessa and Derick and also said goodbye on the morning of our departure at five o'clock. All my inquiries were dealt with in a professional and quick way. We received a link prior to our arrival with the location of Fisherhaven and of events in Hermanus. Vanessa also provided us with info about where to have breakfast, and places to visit and invited us to use the private beach to enjoy the sunset. Extra Warm blankets were also provided for the cold. Fisherhaven is centrally situated to explore the surrounding area and met all our requirements. DSTV was a bonus. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and the purpose of our stay to spend as much time with friends who relocated to Onrusrivier a week prior to our visit, no use was made of the available facilities such as the pool room and kitchen. On the downside, though we were aware of that, stairs to the rooms can be a safety risk when one has a lot of luggage and stuff to carry. We will definitely recommend Fisherhaven and come back to explore Hermanus and its surrounding areas.

Owners Vanessa and Derek are friendly, ready to answer any questions, incl. places to see with the safest routes. Their guests comfort comes first. They ask their visitors to be considerate of others during their stay. Their rooms are tidy and clean. Bedding and towels regularly changed along with daily replenish of coffee, tee, milk and sugar.
Heaters in the rooms and sufficient blankets to keep you warm in cold nights. Bed nets to ward off summer mosquitos. Kitchen is shared which the owners ensure is clean at all times.

Fisherhaven Traveller's Lodge is perfectly located to visit part of the Garden route. It's charming, clean, a great place to relax. The common room and kitchen are very large and inviting. The super nice owers are very helpful with tips and ideas what to visit. We loved the wild horses grazing in the area.

I always look for accommodation like this, simple, welcoming, located in quiet locations, surrounded by greenery, to feel at home.
Vanessa and her husband are two lovely people. Their garden is dotted with hand-painted stones with imagination: cars, frogs, positive phrases.
They gave us the key to access a private beach where the flamingos live, and 'was an' incredible experience to watch the sunset, which colored soft colors of' water and sand.
By the way, we had a close encounter with a herd of wild horses. Unfortunately we could only stay one night, we greeted our guests warmly, in the hope of seeing them again, and I keep as a souvenir the bouquet scented with lavender, which Vanessa gave me.

Our stay was absolutely beautiful . Ms Venessa and her husband gave us a warm welcome after a tiring day . The rooms were spacious and quite cosy . Ms Vanessa gave us the list to explore nearby the vicinity which I have not experienced such family treatment from any of our stays . The lodge has close proximity to whale watching places in Hermanus .
Each corner of the lodge is so thoughtful and complete that we never had to trouble the owners for any of the necessary items .
Words don’t express their hospitality towards us . We were just there for a day but wish we could have more days at this place . While going she also made me remember her by giving beautiful lavenders . They are so kind and generous .

Absolutely wonderful stay. The room was spotless and the service was excellent. Derek and Vanessa are very friendly and helpful and they sent a list of things to do in the area before we arrived (which I have never received from any other place we stayed at). The staircase to the rooms was slightly scary as it is made from wood so obviously moves as one climbs it - but I have a fear of hights, so it might be fine for everyone else. I would recommend this lodge to everyone that wants to spend some time in Fisherhaven.

Response from Derek Nortje, Owner at Fisherhaven Traveller's Lodge
Responded 30 Mar 2024
Thank you very much for the kind review We are very happy to announce that the staircase has been replaced with a new, friendlier, less gradient layout and a halfway landing. It is still however constructed of wood but extremely sturdy. No movement at all. We have gone one step further and replaced all the decking planks on the deck. This is also super sturdy. Happy to report no movement. We can’t wait to share these upgraded additions to our lodge with guests.

Vanessa was an amazing source of very useful information on what to visit both on the way from Cape town, and towards Cape Agulhas. He also gave us a pass to access a nearby lagoon/beach for a nice sunset. Very kind and attentive to its guests.
The rooms are very basic, but clean, in winter heated via a radiator . We did not use breakfast, but we could use the communal kitchen. There is also a pool table and a swimming pool ...not usable in winter due to cold weather.

Hi Bookie 11
We are close to the Bot River Lagoon mouth ( approx. 2km) where you can enjoy your new fishing skill either in the Lagoon itself or in the ocean. We unfortunately do not provide fishing rods but one could pop into town. We can direct you to a shop to buy a rod, hooks and fishing bait.
Kind regards
