This was our fourth stay at One Marine and on each previous occasion, we have rated it five stars. Unfortunately, this time it fell below our expectations and can only assume this is down to the change of ownership. Firstly, on our last visit,we mentioned that the tiles around the pool were loose and potentially dangerous. We were very disappointed to see that not only were the same ones still loose but others also. I know that the owners have great plans for the hotel and have done wonderful renovations at their other establishments but this is no reason to let standards slip at One Marine while still charging the same. Secondly, the bar. We found it extremely strange that it did not stock brandy, no red wines by the glass and only one white wine by the glass. We were told the new owners were focusing on gin, not everyone’s cup of tea by any means. We had excellent service, particularly from Siobhan and Sakhie (not sure I spelt that correctly), kitchen and housekeeping. However, on arrival we were told by Gilbert that cake would be available every afternoon only to be told by Chanelle (again, apologies if spelt incorrectly) that was not correct. Which is it? We were so looking forward to our stay but it just fell short on this occasion. Our room was fantastic with wonderful far reaching sea views. We look forward to seeing the improvements the new owners make in the refurbishment.

Dear Kena Thank you for your review, the contents of which are very disappointing, and concerning. Regarding the pool tiles, this has been planned but it unfortunately means emptying the pool completely which is only something we can do when the hotel is closed for a week. We will attend to this in our local winter. I am pleased that the team looked after you so well. There do seem to be some training gaps, such as the brandy, the wine list and the cake and I will ensure that Shiobhan attends to these. Please let us know when you are planning your next trip We would love to see you again and show you that this experience was absolutely no the norm. Warm regards and all the best for a wonderful year ahead. Lorraine

I am not quite sure how this hotel has 5 stars or rated best hotel in Hermanus on trip advisor … yes the staff are friendly… however there is no fridge/ mini bar in room. There is also no coffee/tea making facilities in the room, not even a kettle and tea bag/ instant coffee sachet provided! Basics v lacking. 5 star properties provide in room pod coffee as a stater.. The “garden room” is right outside reception so has that noise ( and no privacy as you open door people see into your bathroom) also right on road has no garden at all. Should be called the noisy room outside reception to be frank! People also walking by on the street and looking right into your room and also super noisy with road and traffic right outside room ( road less than 2m away!). Room sliding Door can’t be left open as not safe so defeats purpose of that “ feature”. The pool also sadly has no view, the hotel lounge and breakfast area tiny and the bathrooms also pretty small with only one sink. Sorry guys my definition of 5 stars and yours do not converge.. if you said 4 star property I’d perhaps be less critical but I expected MUCH more!

Such a beautiful and welcoming hotel! We spent two wonderful nights here. The staff, especially Sakhi, made sure we had everything we needed. He was a great host with a wealth of knowledge for the area. The rooms were very clean and had an amazing view. Cute details throughout the building. Area is safe and most places are within walking distance.
