SHORT STORY The place is practically worn down and abandoned. We didn’t get the agreed and prepaid number of rooms on arrival, and the manager (Mark) threatened to CALL THE POLICE if we didn’t pay for an additional room that we needed due to this. LONG STORY We stayed 7 adults and 2 kids during four nights in Jan 2018. When we arrived there was no one there with knowledge about our booking. There was barely anyone working at all in the place. Despite having gotten a confirmation for FOUR cabins from the manager (Mark) via email, there were only two cabins arranged for us. From our email confirmation: ———- Hi We can accommodate you for the dates required, we can go ahead with the booking if you wish. Kind regards Mark Hi again We are interested to make à booking. Check in 2 Jan, check out 6 Jan ( 4 nights) One family Cabin 2 adults and 2 kids One single cabin, 2 persons One single cabin 2 persons One single cabin 1 person Total 7 adults and 2 children ( age 6 and 8 ) ——- We managed to get one more cabin, but were told that we would have to pay for the extra cabin. We called Mark to clear the confusion. His argument was that we would fit all 9 into two cabins by sleeping on an old and worn down couch (see picture). When we questioned this he threatened to call the police!! What type of hotel manager does that to their guests?! So we were forced to pay more than what was agreed in our email confirmation for one less cabin than agreed. Besides the horrible, arrogant and very hostile treatment from Mark there were several other problems with the place: - It felt abandoned, there was barely any staff or other guests there - There is no restaurant (there is one, but like most other things, it was completely abandoned) - There is no bar (there is one, but no one working in it) - The cabins and their equipment are very worn down (see pictures) - The WiFi access is extremely limited and doesn’t work in the cabins - They did not accept credit cards, only cash (and no, there is no atm there) Where there any good things? I guess a nice view and a friendly dog. STAY AWAY!

Unwind, rewind and just chill. Petra and Mark hit the sweet spot. We just spend 3 days at Kwelanga. A peaceful place to enjoy nature, forest walks, a little wild life and great hospitality. Highly recommended

My stay at Kwelenga Country Retreat was brief - just one night en route to initially playing golf at Fancourt before venturing further along the Garden Route. From the offset I communicated with the lovely Petra and was soon feel the warm and passion that both she and Mark have for their special place with its wildlife surrounds. After a 20 minute shuttle service journey from George Airport I was escorted to Lodge No 2 which had the luxury of being in close proximity to the main lodge. My night was peaceful and the following morning I was fascinated by a family of Wilderbeest that were grazing literally a few yards from my bedroom window. What a pleasure! With its excellent value for money rates it's hard to imagine a better place to stay. I would highly recommend Kwelenga Country Retreat to anyone looking to a genuine escape from the trappings of the modern world! Next time I will be with my wife who I know will love such a place...

After a long drive from Cape Town, we finally arrived to a warm greeting from Mark and is team. We received our keys and shown to our parking and cabin, that was a very neat and welcome condition, the first thing we noticed was the beautiful view from the balcony. The Buffalo kept making there visits threw out the day, even joining us in front of the balcony, on Sunday evening, when we where making a potjie. In the early mornings you can hear the waves breaking against the rocks in the distance, as well as the birds welcoming you to another day in this retreat, that will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated. We are already in the planning of making another trip up, as there are so many sites and places of interest that are just a short drive away, that we highly recommend this to be your point of comfort, on your next visit to The Garden Route.

We spent 7 nights at Kwelanga..what a wonderfull way to end a very busy and tiring year. We enjoyed every moment spent as a family away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday rush. Great views all around. Excellent service from Petra and Mark. It felt like a little private community with the other wonderfull guests that we could mingle with. Cant complain about anything. Will def go back again!

After a mis-booking by Safari.now, the manager (Mark) of Kwelanga went out of his way to compromise for the mistake and offered us a free night's stay which we turned into a weekend away. What a tranquil, beautiful setting with an Indian ocean view and wild animals roaming in between the log cabins. Highly recommended to ease your soul and get some proper rest and relaxation.

We spontaneously went for a road trip and decided to spend the night in George. i spoke to Petra as we arrived in George and I called in to ask for availability. I could hear that she's a lovely person and her friendly voice and way of talking made me really wanna go there. (It might be a bit pricey, but absolutely worth the money) Petra runs the lodges with her husband Marc. He was spending a lot of time with us and we really enjoyed his company. The steaks he made on the braai were delicious, to be honest couldn't been better! We had a nice, clean lodge with a stunning view over the ocean. It wasn't busy at all, which gave us the feeling to be a part of the family. I hope you guys are keeping it as familiar as it is! I've been to so many lodges all over the world and it's hard to find a accommodation where you can feel the love! I highly recommend Kwelanga! Whenever I'm back in George, even just for a weekend, I'll be there! Simply Amazing!

Having read a poor 2015 review about Kwelanga Lodge we were a bit apprehensive but then realised that the reviewer had not even stayed at the lodge! This should not be allowed by Tripadvisor. On arrival we were very pleasantly surprised at the facilities, the location and the hospitality provided by the managers Petra and Mark. In fact all the staff were very nice. The self catering description is a bit misleading because the site has an excellent restaurant with a fantastic verandah and they provide a really good breakfast. Lunches and dinners are only for group bookings only. There is a herd of of semi-wild wilderbeast that wonder around the site and are interesting to observe. There is no danger if you just walkaround them. From the site there is a route down to the rocks which will take about 20 minutes. Kwelanga is also an excellent base to explore George, Mussel Bay and other areas on the Garden Route. The rooms were clean, fresh and roomy. It's obvious that a lot of care has been taken by the management to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our original booking was for 2 nights but by the evening of our first day we fell in love with the place and booked a 3rd night. We'll be back next year! PS. There is no WiFi in the chalets but is freely available in the reception lounge area.
