This historic old house, set in a lovely garden and furnished with family antiques with a magnificent library, offered us a most comfortable night’s rest followed by a gourmet breakfast served by delightful hosts Madelein and Johan. This guest house is a gem, worth double the very reasonable price charged. A memorable experience.

A beautiful piece of history and a very comfy guest house. Madeleine and Johan are wonderful hosts. Madeleine goes out of her way to ensure each guest has exactly want they want for breakfast. Safe parking and ample room size with a view of the mountains.

My wife and I spent along weekend in George with SA family. Johan and Madeline were wonderful host in addition to having a wonderful cold and hot breakfast. We particularly enjoyed the many hours talking in front of their fireplace.

I requested a reservation for 3 rooms for my clients for 1 night on 24 December 2021.
Subsequently the owner Johan emailed me back with a long explanation as to why they were reluctant to book only 1 night during their peak season. I understood his reasoning; however, he agreed to give me the 3 rooms for my clients regardless.
After I had taken the money from my clients and emailed him the names to confirm, I called his wife Madelein to ask if she received my email. She told me that this was a ridiculous booking and that she could not believe her husband agreed to it. Like they were doing me and my clients a favour.
When I asked for confirmation in order to pay, they retracted the reservation.
Clearly they do not need the money.
It is the most shocking service I have received in my 9 years in the travel industry. I had to go back to the clients to advise them of the above. If I could rate them a zero I would.

Overall a positive review especially of the hosts. Incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Few hiccups on my arrival. Allocated room had been given away so ended up next to the dining area (Ossetia) which is unfortunate as you are woken up early by diners. WIFI is very slow- problematic if you need to work. Water system very noisy so you hear your neighbour showering. Breakfast is really good and the old building with wooden floors has wonderful charm.

I had arrived at the Waenhuis after a long drive from PE to George. I was greeted by the friendly and warm owner.

The room was spotless, and the decor very pleasant. The bed was extremely comfortable leading to a good rest. WiFi works perfectly and is quick. Amazing shower!!

Breakfast was incredible, so fresh!

The location is excellent as it is central to everything.

The Waenhuis is an excellent choice for business travellers in particular.

Thank you to the owners M&J for your friendly hospitality. You know how to deliver amazing service in order to retain guests.

I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

The owners and staff are all very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds. You also have a mini fridge in the room with tea and coffee amenities. A small hairdryer provided is always a bonus for me as I hate to lug mine around with me on my travels. Breakfast is a feast! I stayed for a week and had all sorts of options to choose from: scrambled eggs & bacon, omelettes, french toast, smoothies, fresh fruit, filter coffee...my tummy was very content :-)

Some rooms are inside the main house and if you are a light sleeper like I am (I'm very finicky about this), then the wooden floors might disturb you - but there are a number of rooms in the garden overlooking the pool which do not have the wooden floor issue - I enjoyed those rooms.
