This historic old house, set in a lovely garden and furnished with family antiques with a magnificent library, offered us a most comfortable night’s rest followed by a gourmet breakfast served by delightful hosts Madelein and Johan. This guest house is a gem, worth double the very reasonable price charged. A memorable experience.
I requested a reservation for 3 rooms for my clients for 1 night on 24 December 2021. Subsequently the owner Johan emailed me back with a long explanation as to why they were reluctant to book only 1 night during their peak season. I understood his reasoning; however, he agreed to give me the 3 rooms for my clients regardless. After I had taken the money from my clients and emailed him the names to confirm, I called his wife Madelein to ask if she received my email. She told me that this was a ridiculous booking and that she could not believe her husband agreed to it. Like they were doing me and my clients a favour. When I asked for confirmation in order to pay, they retracted the reservation. Clearly they do not need the money. It is the most shocking service I have received in my 9 years in the travel industry. I had to go back to the clients to advise them of the above. If I could rate them a zero I would.…
We have recently stayed twice at this guesthouse when needing overnight accommodation in George. We chose it, on a friend's recommendation, principally for its convenience the town centre, but it lived up to expectations, and beyond, on both occasions. The delightful surprise about this establishment is its tranquility, only a few yards from the main street of George, with cottage style gardens that were a pleasure to wander through between room and breakfast, and a feeling that you could be well out of town, even on a farm. The room itself was reasonably spacious, comfortable and clean, with nice little touches like a complimentary glass of sherry. But the particular highlight was probably the breakfast, which was excellent. The hot part was beautifully cooked, and the remainder was distinctive, with many home-made elements (breads, jams, yoghourts and smoothies), and unusual fruits included in the fruit salad. It was also different on each occasion we stayed. It was really memorable to have a breakfast which was completely different from (and more tasty than) the average hotel breakfast! Madeleine and Johan were charming hosts. The whole atmosphere of this guest-house is old-fashioned, traditional, solid and peaceful, and both our stays were consistently good.…
Overall a positive review especially of the hosts. Incredibly friendly and welcoming. Few hiccups on my arrival. Allocated room had been given away so ended up next to the dining area (Ossetia) which is unfortunate as you are woken up early by diners. WIFI is very slow- problematic if you need to work. Water system very noisy so you hear your neighbour showering. Breakfast is really good and the old building with wooden floors has wonderful charm.
The room was beautiful and clean, very very lovely, The service was excellent and the couple who owns the place was the sweetest people I have ever met. It was the best experience I have had. For anyone looking for a good bed and breakfast place in George, this is definitely the place.
