Rooms and bathrooms are very well equipped. You have your own private terrace. Breakfast is excellent. There is a generator in case of a power cut. The guesthouse is on a walking distance of some good restaurants. Owners are very friendly and accommodating Perfect place for a stay in George, we can recommend it to everyone

I had the pleasure of staying at the charming Caledon 23 Country House in tranquil George, and it was an absolute delight. The setting, nestled amidst lush greenery and surrounded by majestic mountains, was simply breathtaking. The serenity of this place was unparalleled, making it the perfect peace-filled retreat, even while away on business. I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing work-related getaway.

Star Rating 3 out of 5. Service Rating 1 out of 10.

The house and rooms are well designed and comfortable and initially you feel like this is a relaxing location to spend part of your holiday.

Unfortunately this is short lived. Having breakfast on your first day you come to the rude awakening that you actually booked into a high level military style boot camp, run by Anne.

If you enjoy someone else making decisions for you and treating you like a child you are going to enjoy this experience so very much.

Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9am, but coming in at 9am or after will be frowned apon and Anne will highlight the fact that you are late and a whack with a dish cloth will definitely come your way.

Breakfast only has one option, whatever Anne serves you. Please DO NOT order anything else. When breakfast is served dont leave any left overs in your plate. Whatever is left, Anne says she will use for breakfast tomorrow. Dont try to get a second cup of coffee as you will be told "Drink up the staff is on a schedule and you making them late. Please also dont feel you are targeted, the rest of the guests are treated in exactly the same way and they will be reprimanded in front of you and other guests .

PS! Breakfast is mandatory. Please have a valid excuse and DO NOT use the excuse that you are not hungry. Anne does not take kindly to this. Anne will not let her guests leave without breakfast.

Hope you dont want to sleep in or go to your room after breakfast. It is preferred that you should leave the premises as the staff needs to clean your room. Anne does not leave her house dirty and you will just have to make other arrangements. The house and rooms will be cleaned. If you do stay in your room when the staff is busy cleaning please do not request a clean towel or cloth cos this will find its way back to Anne and she will personally come and speak to you about this.

Other issues include, the metal gate opening and closing as cars enter and leave make a rattle which will be great if you like your sleep interrupted. Neighboring dogs howls at intermittent times and for no apparent reason. The landline is set to maximum for the office so hope you dont mind that. Under no circumstances should you move the pot plants at the gate to make space for another car when the guest house is full as any deviation from the outline will be met with signage the next day and Anne finding the culprit. You are warned!

In conclusion, If you only going to need a room to sleep in at night, dont care what is served for breakfast, dont mind noise and enjoy every detail of your holiday dissected and alternate options provided as per Annes taste, think no further than Caledon 23 Country House.

I think Anne means well but her overbearing personality is just way to much to handle and actually very stressful.

My Dear, Wow thank you. This comes as a surprise. If I recall you never uttered a word that you had a problem. We approached every guest that stayed with us we only tried to be reasonable towards the cleaning staff as it was New Year and I felt that they also wanted to spend some time with their family. The other guests all agreed and we where able to enter their rooms to clean from 10.00 o"clock. On the other hand your party only allowed them in after 11.00 o clock.Normally our towels gets changed every 3rd day. You stayed for 4 days but still the towels was dried every day and changed on the 3rd day. I am very surprised that you found fault with the breakfast. You all remarked that it was to much. I am sure you noticed that I do have a sense of humor......therefore when the food was left on your plate I did joke to say you will have it the next day. Please take note that you did however have a different menu everyday. No left overs!!! If I recall your last breakfast I was showered with compliments. Maybe if you found the time to approach me we could have discussed it. But it seems to me you did not find it to be a problem at the time. Strange!!! Well my dear when you do have a moment to rethink please feel free to contact me to discuss the matter. I have had nothing but wonderful report back from all the guests that stayed here over the feastive season and some have already booked for December 2016. Or maybe you where just upset when my cleaning ladies refused to wash your black pot,at the time they were on their way home. I really enjoyed your visit and all the laughter together. I wish you a wonderful 2016 .

Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendliest lady, Anne. She immediately made me feel at home. Anne showed us to our rooms, which was beautifully decorated and perfectly clean. The breakfast the next morning was definitely something to write home about. I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit the beautiful town of George.

We booked at Caledon23 months before. The rooms that we ordered online were not given to us. The lady who welcomed us was rude and unhelpful. We were "told" we should have breakfast before 8am otherwise a cooked breakfast would not be served and we would rather receive a continental breakfast. When we asked for a refund for our breakfast the lady said she didn't have cash on premises-really?! And didn't even make a plan to get some cash before we left, the next day. I will never stay here again, due to the unwelcome, rude and uncompromising hospitality.
