Stayed because it was close to the golf courses. But when we arrived we didnt get the room we booked, due to overbooking. We had to stay in a room without balcony just windows for 2 nights. And the restaurant and the food experiance was bad. So if you want a good stay and good food dont choose this hotel.
The hotel is very dated. Bathroom still has a tub with a shower. Cupboards are really outdated and you can see the chipwood starting to fall off in the bathroom. The room which were in had a faulty aircon. We reported this twice and the maintenance guys couldn’t fix it. Eventually we had to switch off the aircon for the duration of our stay. Breakfast isn’t a good range. The fruit stand was made up of predominantly canned fruit, considering we are in summer one would expect good fresh fruit. Overall I wouldn’t call this a 4 star hotel.
Spent 2 nights at the hotel. It’s in a beautiful area. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The rooms were however quite dated and lacked that “clean feel” as the carpets and couch had stains on them. Overall decent stay.
Stayed for two nights. Hotel is a little sleepy, but could be just due to the season not having really started and Covid downturn. Rooms were fine, found the bathroom to be recently updated. Sure, some of the facilities seem tired, but given the current economic environment it was nothing out of the ordinary or which adversely affected my stay. The staff at the tavern area went above and beyond to provide service to my family both evenings after very long days. Good location on the Garden Route, lots to do in the area. Great views at the hotel as well.
I never knew that there was still a place like paradise in South Africa, called George. If you want to get away from the busy city, just visit this area, and stay in this hotel. It's a great hotel with a set-up as if you home. It has nice, well taken care of garden, plenty of parking. Their customer service is of great standard, the food is the best, although it's a limited selection due to Covid-19. This is the place I can recommend you stay at when visiting George and the garden route.
We were invited to a braai at a friend's house on Saturday, 1 May 2021. After having a couple of drinks we decided to rather stay in a hotel within the proximity. My girlfriend wanted to stay in Fancourt. Since I had such poor service there I opted otherwise. I contacted the hotel, spoke to the night auditor which I asked for the best room, Queen or King bed and he said he would make a plan. Thinking they could accommodate us with this request I didn't make other plans. I usually use AirBnb but given the last minute decision we left for the hotel. Upon entering the place was dated and gone through extreme wear and tear. We were directed to our room which had 2 3/4 beds? I contacted the night auditor immediately. Sadly with curfew not only was this now our destitute destination but they only had 3/4 beds. Staff shouldn't accept requests they cannot forfill rather state they cannot assist and I would find other accommodation. The rooms shower and sink was blocked and it was dirty - stained and holes in bathroom door which only had a shower and toilet. No life green on white and just a horrible feel, couldn't accommodate with an ashtray . No colour variation just miserable, something you would expect in hell. For R100 more I could've stayed in Fancourt king bed shower and bath and had a clean room. Got moved after the night auditor needed to inspect the flooding shower to a room with stains on carpet and an extra small table. The room was dirty and were the one hole in the bathroom was another in the other room in another area of the door. The ACs in both were barely functional, outside the rusted units speak volumes as to why. Cracks on wall, scuff marks, truly a grim uncaring state of events leaded to noone caring about this place. Years neglecting maintenance or cleaning schedules. I spoke the next morning to the Front Desk, there was a man in the front playing with a baby, I had met before, he explained how the hotel had battled with covid. Even though I felt sympathy this doesn't mean give up caring. He gave us complimentary breakfast which still given that I could get a clean room on airbnb with a bath & shower, king bed, clean and a bit of colour for half the price didn't justify paying what I did for the room. I forgave this though, at breakfast his wife and child were in the corner of the empty room having breakfast. My final straw was my girlfriend seeing a game room and I asked if we could play 1 table tennis game. This was apparently closed for the spread of covid and that there was high cost alcohol, store the alcohol in a storeroom and clean up this dirty dump. Absolute nonsense, Selling a dive that isn't worth half the price as is, no value to anyone staying, then having nothing for them to do. This is a fair warning for anyone wanting to book travel, business or conferences, you in for a HOTEL NIGHTMARE. I complained on Marriott website as they operation the Protea Group couldn't find this hotel and it put a different name in. The Customer Service apologized for the experience at the autocorrect hotel, meaning they were so dazed or lacked the decency to even read I stated the actual hotel in the description of my above complaints. Clearly throughout my career in hospitality prior to operating my own business, I saw Marriott as a luxury brand. It seems the whole company has gone to the dogs. Don't expect me or any of my business to be anywhere in a Marriott hotel. It's a laughable joke to think I stayed in backpackers better than Marriott. Worst accommodation experience of my life and inexcusable. Fortunately, I have spared my friends all in business in George this experience as most have been shocked. Let the pictures help you paint your own picture!…
Elegant property with large spacious veranda/balcony if you select that room. View of adjacent golf course in nice quiet area. But also quick drive to malls and hypermarkets. Views of mountains which may be cloudy.
We've stayed before on golf trips, came back after a 5 year break from visiting George and it was just as good as we remembered, can't fault the place. Well worth the room upgrade to overlooking George Golf Club.
We stayed over a weekend and the suite was spacious and clean :-) I feel the breakfast is over priced, but the food is ok. I would recommend if for those looking for cleanliness, comfort, practicality and proximity to restaurants etc. I would return.
We have been traveling on vacation to this hotel for 10 years. Why do we keep coming back? Firstly the grounds and hotel are in tip-top condition and consistently so. Then the management team who are helpful , courteous and go the extra mile. The friendly barman, room service staff are awesome. We appreciate them all.
