Yesterday morning (14 May), I was invited to a breakfast at this esteemed establishment the Oubaai Hotel and Spa. On entering the breakfast room, the first thing that I noticed were the filthy windows. And I know the place is next to the sea and this fact is a problem but I too live next to the sea so I know what it takes to keep windows clean. Then it was time to start eating, with a serving of either fruit, or cereal, or the traditional bacon and egg type breakfast. We were informed by guests there before us, not to drink the coffee from the machine but rather that the kitchen make us fresh coffee. Well that was a 15 minute saga to get our coffee and when we did, it was without either warm or cold milk. When it came to the breakfast itself they ran out of scrambled eggs and the hot food stuffs were anything but hot / warm. The "container" which had scrambled egg in it was empty and was that way for the duration of our breakfast. As we left, so a fresh batch arrived. No, we were not the last to arrive we were there pretty early with golfers streaming in ready for the days fun. The table at which we sat, had a damaged top surface with the chipboard exposed. We were told later that there were issues with the cooking equipment in the kitchen. While that may well be true - problem solve the problem - the dilemma isn't any concern of paying guests. The kitchen lacks hands on management. But wait that’s not all. The family I was with, who were guests at the hotel not with one room but three huge suites, had booked a private function room at the clubhouse for 14 people for a 50th birthday. When we got there, and that after confirming in the afternoon that all was prepared for our arrival, we witnessed that our function room had been occupied by another group of people. It’s a guess-did they walk in and just take over the function room or were they escorted to the function room without checking or was there a double booking? What goes through me is that a traditional Afrikaans surname cannot be confused with an African name / surname - the point I’m making is the people that took over our function room would definitely not have an Afrikaans surname so that should have set off an alarm bell something isn’t right with the welcoming receptionist. I’ll cut the story short - from this point onwards at the last moment we hastily had to find another venue in George to accommodate 14 people for the celebration. I believe the Oubaai owners ought to know their business (based on our experience) isn’t in good shape and neither is it in good hands.…
We were met by two very friendly security ladies at the entrance/boom and guided to the reception. Here again another very friendly lady by the name of Patience met us and upon checking us in, informed us that the room were not ready. She made us at ease and gave us some ideas to keep us busy but after an hour of waiting, I approach her again and she could not tell us how long it will still take to get a room ready. She and the elderly receptionist really tried hard but seems the "cleaning supervisor" didn't want to have any of it. Then we realized we are not the only visitors waiting for a room and decide it is best to travel back to Cape Town after 16h00. We were approached at our car by a Team Leader named Sherwin who overheard our conversation and tried to change our minds by offering us a free dinner but the hype were already gone to overnight as to what my friends had described as an awesome experience with their visit. The employees interacting with us deserve 5 stars. Your "back office supervisor with an attitude and her staff a big fat ZERO. Please share our appreciation with those friendly staff members who still made us feel special.…
Quite a strange, disjointed place. Not pretty at all - in fact it looks a bit industrial. It seems very understaffed, and doesn’t compare to its rivals at Simola and Pezula at all. Rooms are ok - nice bathrooms. The tv is tiny. No restaurant to speak of. No atmosphere - all very odd.
Honeymoon Hell ,Our package wasn't even ready on arrival everything was slow and there was a clear lack of care for service. They really only care about there PRIVATE GUEST AT THE CLUB HOUSE. The rest of us are non existing...Thank God the Cleaning is atleast consistent but other than that if you not paying large money to use there golf facility you aren't important.
Mismanagement pur - Managing Director needs to be replaced for a Reset. Having huge problems with the booking system and rooms are out of order du to technical reasons. Key system needs to be replaced to a working one. Try to avoid this place.
