Family visit in January. We enjoyed our stay but expected more for the relatively high price we paid. I have listed below the positives and negatives of our stay. This hotel has so much potential and it should be relatively easy for management to rectify. If they don’t, I’m afraid this hotel will not survive much longer.

Positives:
Very friendly and helpful management and staff, including reception, restaurants, concierge and shuttle service.
Very nice, large and spacious family room with all the usual amenities.
Very good buffet breakfast included in the price.
Location is perfect for going to the nearby beach (Herolds Bay)
Convenient and free shuttle service to the beach (a necessity as parking at the beach is very scarce)

Negatives:
The hotel grounds and gardens look very run down, with many empty, abandoned retail outlets and/or offices on the grounds. The gardens require urgent attention (for starters, just pick up all the dead leaves) and management must know that it’s not acceptable to have loads of cigarette butts lying around the main hotel entrance area. It’s just very sloppy and creates a bad impression with guests.
Having to use the hotel shuttle service to get to the golf clubhouse and restaurant is a major inconvenience to guests, particularly as the shuttle service is not always available immediately. Hotel guests already have a security access code for the hotel grounds, why not allow the guests to go to the clubhouse with own transport, or make them sign in with ID at the manned security boom.

I honestly feel that this hotel has so much potential. The location is great and it’s situated on a beautiful golf course. As it stands now, we will not return, as I feel the overall experience is not worth the money.

Hats off to Cheff Charity from Members Clubhouse Restaurant! Myself and my husband love food, Charity made my birthday very special! Her passion, love and expert technique in executing each dish, left us speechless. Her cooking was superb, from the mouthwatering sirloin to the crispy, lightfluffy juicy fish! It was scrumptious! Kwezi, made us feel welcome and tended to our drinks, while Alyschia served us to a "T. I would recommend Charity as a Cheff and hope she enters Master Cheff.

We went there as part of a group and had lunch and spent the day there

Resort
The resort entrance is quite authentic with a feeling of african design.

You have to take the stairs or elevator to go to the restaurant or common areas as the reception itself is quite elvated from the ground.

The hotel landscaping is quite brick style instead of lush garden style. And not everybody will like this design.
It does have a swimming pool as wel but you have to find it.

There is a restaurant nearby the river/stream.
The river is quite uninviting and green/brownish - beware of what's lurking indepth.

Food/service
The hotel was perhaps overloaded with our group as the service was not there, disconnected and the food was uncooked on the buffet.

There is a small greenish area at the main common entrance with a small kids playground.

We didn't try the golf experience as we were there for only one day.

Overall
was not a great experience

The Resort is located about 10 min from Georfe airport or the N2. Once passed the security gate, you find the reception with a Large entrance hall and many helping hands taking Care of your luggage. Some rooms (suites) are in another building, takes about 5 min walk. We had the junior suite which is fabulous and very spacious. 2 bathrooms, a working Desk, living room and Bath/ bedroom offer lots of space and amenities. Ok, there is only 1 coffee machine, 1 fridge..who needs more? The hotel wasn‘t busy, so the Spa closed at 5 pm and only 2 restaurants offered dinners. Those are pretty simple and „bar“ style, one is the member Lounge, which is in the golf club house, which requires a new safety code from the Gate and is only reachable by car
Breakfast was offered in the Main hotel restaurant.
We saw crews working on maintenance and upgrades, the Staff is extremely friendly, the price/ value is very balanced- so we don‘t know why there are not more customers..?

1. Aircons in the rooms not working and only informed on check-in
2. Reception staff, while friendly, have no idea about how things work. As an example, the opening hours of the tennis courts and the possibility of hiring equipment was a complete mystery and answers ranged from late night, to always open and all equipment available to no equipment available. Moreover, the actual desk at the courts were unmanned.
3. Swimming pool wall is green ( not sure about how safe the water is for swimming)
4. Water out the taps in the rooms is yellow.
5. Every room ( we had four large apartments in our group), had a distinct “drain” odour.
6. Access to the golf club house, can only be achieved via a shuttle service, which was great, when a shuttle was available. If it was out, we were told we needed to use our own vehicle ( which wasn’t a problem with us), except, that because of the strict boom access, that meant we needed to drive to the main gate, leave the complex, the turn around and drive in again, get a new code and then access the golf course.
7. At breakfast, the birds feeding at the confectionary station at the buffet, is a health risk.
8. Hotel advertises a turn down service, but says that the service is no longer offered.

The disappointing thing, is that this could be an amazing place if even just a little attention to detail is prioritised.

Pros:
1. Nice lounge on the third floor, with afternoon wine and canapés.
2. Staff at the pro shop and golf course ( and especially half way house ) were really friendly, and went the extra mile to engage with us.
3. The golf course is amazing ( although the pace of play was really slow, but it being holiday golf, wasn’t really an issue).

We recently stayed at Oubaai Hotel, expecting a relaxing getaway, but unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable. Upon arrival, we found that the air-conditioning in our room was not working. Maintenance attempted to fix it, but the issue remained unresolved. We were then offered alternative rooms, only to discover that the air-conditioning in those rooms was also faulty.

With no comfortable solution provided, we had no choice but to cut our trip short and drive four hours back home—
completely ruining what was supposed to be a pleasant stay. Considering that proper cooling is a basic expectation at a resort of this caliber, it was incredibly disappointing to encounter this issue across multiple rooms.

Adding to our frustration, we have two vouchers for future stays, but after this experience, we no longer look forward to using them. We have visited Oubaai Hotel four times before and always appreciated the quality of service, but we were informed that new management has taken over. If this is a reflection of the new standards, it is deeply concerning.

We sincerely hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves its facilities and service. Until then, we cannot recommend staying here.

Room service closed at 20h30 -fine

Order was made at 19h30. I had to follow up 20h10, and received no call back repeatedly until 21h00 despite me asking what was happening, and then a shift change. Not once was I called back. The staff who had taken my order had decided to rather wait until their shift was over than deal with situation

At around 21h35, I was informed that my order had not been received - no kidding

No other food place is nearby. Good times

Breakfast better be good

My fiancé and I stayed here on December 22nd and 23rd, and I was really excited to return, as I’ve stayed here many times with my family before Covid. Back then, it was opulent, classy, and felt like a true luxury experience. Unfortunately, this visit was a letdown.

We arrived at 4 pm, just in time for my fiancé to catch a soccer game, but the TV in our room wasn’t working. When we tried calling reception, the phone line was dead. On top of that, the aircon wasn’t working, and there were biscuit crumbs on the table. My fiancé spoke to the manager, who was very kind and moved us to another room inside the hotel. They even gifted us a beverage as an apology, which we appreciated.

The rooms, while lovely, are clearly outdated. The air conditioning still didn’t work, and it was uncomfortably hot inside. Breakfast was enjoyable in terms of options, but the area wasn’t cleaned regularly, which was disappointing. Jam was spilled all over the station, cutlery was sticky, and some plates were dirty. However, we were touched when the staff sang happy birthday to my fiancé that morning—it was a sweet gesture.

What stood out most to us was how much the hotel itself has declined. A few years ago, it was a vibrant, upmarket destination, but now it feels neglected. The building looks abandoned in areas. Walking around, we noticed the lower level, which once had a hairdresser and various shops, is now just a storage space for chairs, tables, and water bottles. It’s a stark contrast to the grandeur I remember, and it’s not visually appealing at all.

That said, the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which we appreciated.

This hotel has so much potential, but it’s clear it needs serious maintenance and a revival to bring back its former charm.

Terrible experience. Paid a good amount of money to stay at the hotel to receive phone calls and emails straight after checkout accusing us of “ taking “ Hotel Gowns. We explained our frustrations of checking in with no gowns to start with and then being told we took them. We even offered that they then search our bags. They launched an apparent through investigation a few hours after we left into their gowns going missing stating that security and housekeeping were sure we took it and that we would be charged for it. So at this point they pretty much said we stole it. This is the same people who could not serve a clean dinning area for breakfast after the previous nights dinner buffet. Oubaai Hotel, I will rather donate five times the value of your gowns to a charity of your choice than pay for something we never took ! We didn’t use any complementary shampoo or shower gel, nor take the free slippers but we apparently have a thing for stealing gowns.

The hotel is run down and severely lacking maintenance, whilst we were checking in children were riding through reception on bicycles. No signs of any management. Went to the golf club for drinks and dinner, shocking service, staff “hurry you up” as they want to go home early, food was far from good and order was not taken correctly. Hotel rooms are dirty and run down, net curtains in my room were torn, AC did not work, bed and pillows were horrible. We are on a 10 days trip around Western Cape and this is certainly THE WORST hotel we have stayed in, we will never go back

Yes, the gym is available to hotel guests. I didn’t see any times posted that said the gym wasn’t available. I know there’s a five hiking trail. I assume this can be used for running. Three rooms make up the gym. Two of them are very well equipped with exercise and weight lifting machines. As well as free weights. The third has a punch bag a speed ball, some exercise mats and some light free weights. There are also some squash and tennis courts.

We stayed 5 nights in an Ocean View room which was lovely. I can't comment on the pool view room as I have not stayed in one. The estate is beyond beautiful however there isn't much to do apart from golf, swimming and whale watching. Perfect for a relaxing stay.

Dear Amit Ahmedabad You are more than welcome to come and check-in any time before the official check-in time. If the room is ready you can have the room, but if it is not ready unfortunately you will have to wait. Kind Regards,
