We use SANParks a lot but this was the first time we stayed anywhere so close to a town. It proved a good choice compared with other Wilderness locations if you want somewhere affordable and with space for children to run around. The campgrounds are large and green, with river and marsh fronts, many trees, jungle gym. No swimming at camp but its only 5 minutes (across the N1 highway) to the lovely beach. Canoeing and hiking nearby looked good but we did not have time in a short overnight stop to try. We stayed in one of the log cabins on stilts, simple but beautfiul setting with deck overlooki ng the lawns and hills. Units are close to one another and maybe some others a bit too much so

The SANPARKS have done an excellent job with Wilderness NAtional PArk. If you looking to experience outdoor life with home comforts then this is a very good option. The whole property is very well maintained and the wooden chalets gives you that outdoor wilderness feel. We were a big group with lots of children and everyone had a great time with plenty of activities to keep all ages occupied. The hikes up the river are exceptional and the canoe trips are outsourced but also pretty special. A really special place

This SANPark is not my favourite place, but it's simply because I don't like water activities such as canooing or swimming in the river. I prefer a pool 😉. We stayed in a 2 bedroom chalet #9 with a teeny tiny view / gap of the river but nice view overall. The unit has an aircon in the living room which we didn't know about so that was a pleasent surprise as it was VERY VERY HOT. The chalet was very clean and tidy upon check-in. Just love clean rooms!! If you like reading books and bird watching or swimming in the river or just chilling next to the river you'll love this place but I need some more entertainment.

This is a popular holiday resort, a long stretches of unspoilt beach and the tranquil lagoon which makes a perfect setting for a peaceful holiday. The Wilderness rest camps are situated on the Touw River lagoon, where the Serpentine flows into it.

Es gibt hier unterschiedliche Hütten im Camp. Wir waren in den Forest Cabins. Zweckmäßig ausgestattet. Leider keine Kochplatte vorhanden.

SANSPARK do not honour their returns policy whatsoever. They have simply refused to refund our reservations after cancelling then due to covid19. They will avoid your emails and phone calls.

Be careful.

I rented a small cabin for three days/nights in June of 2017. it was during the week, in Winter, and the camp was nearly vacant. Nonetheless, the staff on hand at the gates and the office and grounds were friendly and accommodating. The setting is striking, with the Indian Ocean and a wide beach on one side, and the Touwsrivier estuary and canyon on the other. One day I went down to the beach, waded in the warm Ocean, and explored the inlet, blocked by sand in the dry season. The next day I rented a canoe and paddled as far upriver as I could. There are trails and a series of lakes connected by the Serpentine channel. I was able to purchase supplies in town and cook my meals on the hotplate provided. The cabin was cozy and well-stocked with blankets and towels. Great shower and a clever window above the sink with a mirror that opens to the outside, so I could shave in the morning light (facing East) and then open the window for fresh air. Wish I could have stayed there longer.

As Vegans, or should we say, people who eat a plant based diet, we arrived today with great excitement that we could finally approach any stall and be free to eat anything we chose. But - the food here is utter rubbish. Cheap, processed and mostly deep fried inedible non-food. I was totally disheartened that every single thing we eat at home was better in every conceivable way. Taste, health and ethics. All I could really think was that I felt sorry for the cows because if a non vegan ate this - they would be back to eating meat asap! These people are selling out the whole idea of better living for the world and ourselves. I mean "pulled jack fruit"! If you want to eat meat - eat meat! But don't bring your fake meat and processes into the healthy and clean world of eating a plant based diet. The lunch we bought went almost entirely to the bin and it was a TOTAL insult. And really expensive. Don't go to this if you care about your diet and want to taste really fabulous food. Be vegan but not here!

"The chalets on the river are a good choice especially if you have a big group. You can book the chalets all next to each other. Probably worth paying the extra for the ensuite chalets although the communal facilities are very clean and well maintained."
