From the moment we arrived, the hospitality of Jo and Fabian set the tone for a truly exceptional stay. Despite it being the busy Christmas season, they greeted us warmly and accommodated our early check-in with ease. They thoughtfully stored our luggage and showed us all the areas where we could relax before our room was ready, making us feel immediately at ease.
We enjoyed unwinding by the beautifully maintained pool, and it wasn’t long before we were informed that our room was ready. Fabian’s recommendations for local dining and walking spots were spot on and added a personal touch to our experience.
Our room was a haven of comfort and style, complete with luxurious, fluffy cushions and a Nespresso-style coffee machine—a perfect detail for a coffee lover like me. The local biscuits and the high-end toiletries in the bathroom were delightful touches. We especially loved the private patio, which came with relaxing chairs and a table, ideal for al fresco dining or just soaking in the serene surroundings.
The main house offered cozy reading spots and a fantastic honesty bar by the pool—a lovely addition that made us feel even more at home. During our stay, the Schumacher family was celebrating the holiday season, and their warmth and friendliness truly enhanced our experience. They went out of their way to ensure we felt welcome while still respecting our privacy, making us feel like part of their festive celebrations and like one of their extended family, Etienne even came rushing to the gate to say goodbye to me, what a wonderful warm and truly genuine man, whom I loved chatting to around the pool.
The pool was a standout feature—pristine, inviting, and clearly well cared for. Even the gardeners contributed to the wonderful atmosphere, working quietly and kindly checking if we needed anything during our stay.
Every aspect of our stay was meticulously curated to create a feeling of relaxed luxury, making it hard to say goodbye. It was such a memorable experience that we’re already planning our return visit next year.
If you’re looking for a place that blends warmth, comfort, and a touch of indulgence, this is it. A truly luxurious home away from home!

If you’re looking for a luxurious, cosy and relaxing place to call home in Cape Town, then look no further than Villa Coloniale Schumacher Luxury Retreat. Situated in leafy Constantia, it’s an amazing place to start and end your holiday. Only 25 minutes away from the airport and the waterfront, it’s perfect for your excursions. Fabian is such an incredible host. He upgraded us to an amazing room which made our stay even the more enjoyable. His staff were impeccably friendly and polite with the kitchen crew making sure that our breakfast was served fresh and tasty all throughout the time we were there. Not to mention the cleaning staff who ensured that the room was spotless each and every day. I can’t recommend this place enough. We plan to return to Cape Town and we will definitely be making Villa Coloniale our place again.

We absolutely loved our stay so much so that we extended our stay for a further five days after the initial 5 day stay. The property is stunning, private and wonderfully well kept. The staff was superb throughout the stay and made us feel incredibly welcome. The breakfast was consistently of a high standard and the rooms brilliantly serviced each day. I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Cape Town.

1. Excellent location. 2. Gorgeous bedrooms (we were in room number 6 which was very spacious with a lovely balcony). 3. Fantastic heated swimming pool and great sauna. 4. Beautiful gardens - Esau the gardener was very friendly. 5. Customer service from the staff including Fabian, Keith and the staff who served us breakfast, were perfunctory. I asked Keith if we could stay another two nights and rather than just saying. "no, we are fully booked," I would have appreciated him helping us to find another location. I also asked him where we could go for dinner one night and again expected him to make us a reservation which he did not do. Finally, I only got to know about the fabulous gym on my last day. What a shame! 6. Breakfast - 3/5. Terrible coffee (I expected a proper coffee machine rather than a cheap machine with Nespresso pods). 7. Please change the UHT milk for fresh milk, after all you provide a mini bar in each room.

Last week we flew down to Cape Town, under last minute conditions and Jo and Villa Coloniale Schumacher did everything to accommodate us. Sadly, for us Jo was not able to accommodate us for our whole stay, but made sure that the 3 nights that we were there were special. You feel special and welcomed at Villa Coloniale Schumacher, as if you’re coming home. There is always some available and present to help you. Nothing is too much. Jo knew that one of the reasons for our trip was that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and she made sure that we felt special. A bottle of Bubbles and a beautiful candle go a long way to make guests feel welcome. The rooms a spacious and beautifully decorated with a decanter of Port in the room and a bottle of red wine to welcome you to your room. A tray of fresh fruit, a variety of teas to choose from, as well as, tasty crunchy rusks. I hope that when we visit Constantia again, we will be able to have our whole stay at Villa Coloniale. Gardens are beautiful and immaculate, pity the Cape Town weather did not allow us to enjoy the beautiful gardens.

Beautiful little guesthouse in Constantia. We had a large suite with tasteful and high-quality furnishings. The garden is very well maintained and has a sufficiently large pool. The breakfast is served on tiered stands at the table and is plentiful and of good quality. I would like to highlight the friendliness of the staff. Fabian tries to compensate for any inconvenience. This arises because the owner uses the house to entertain friends privately and the guest feels like a nuisance when he uses the pool or other public areas. One evening the house was filled with loud music until 3 a.m.

We arrived on a Sunday after 3 nights "glamping" in a national park and I can't tell you how much we loved our stay. We had a suite which was more like an apartment and it was perfect, clean, comfortable, decor was wonderful. The whole team work so hard to make your stay feel like a luxury stay yet friendly, approachable and more importantly they want to make sure your stay is the best it can possibly be.
We travel alot, stayed in some incredible hotels around the world and I promise you that you won't find better people to help you enjoy a break away from it all. Keep in mind it's a retreat, if you're looking for buzzing night life and a nightly LED show don't stay here. If you want to spend some time with your loved one, unwind and be left to it without be hassled constantly then this is your perfect place. We found our perfect place to go back year after year, we look forward to seeing all the team here very soon.

At the end of January 2023 we spent four nights in this beautiful accommodation. It is ideally located (e.g. for trips to Cape Town, Cape Hope, the Winelands), is located in a complex with large, old trees, the garden is very well maintained, the pool is generously sized, the building is based on the colonial style, the rooms are spacious, modern and very friendly furnished. Nothing is missing! The two managers Fabian and Keith are very friendly, attentive and helpful, the owner, who happened to be present during our visit, is also very friendly and down to earth! With only 11 rooms or suites, the retreat has a size in which an almost family feeling arises, the managers and the service staff contribute their part. The lavish and very rich breakfast is served in the garden and here, too, no wishes remain unfulfilled.
On our next visit to the Cape region, we will definitely return here!

A fantastic location with incredibly supportive and helpful staff. We felt very much not only at home and well looked after but spoiled. The breakfasts had everything one could imagine and more and even accommodated my wife’s breakfasts in bed, while the honesty bar provided lots of local attractions to investigate. Thank you very much. We will be back!

My elderly father and I were fortunate enough to stay for 18 nights and there is so much I could say here but I honestly would not be able to put in the right words the kind of hospitality and accommodation Monika and the Villa team gave us. Their professionalism and warmth is absolutely amazing and we really felt at home there. Monika was always available and checked on us often to see if we were fine, that was all much appreciated. Her recommendations for eating out and visits were top notch.
Our rooms were furnished really beautifully, with a minibar, tea/coffee machine, safe, telephone and free WiFi and luxurious bed linen in which you sink into luxury. A very good breakfast served in the beautiful and extensive garden made a perfect start to the day.
We had an unforgettable and extremely relaxed stay in a tranquil and safe location. I cannot wait to come back here again in October...the Villa Coloniale is wholeheartedly recommended and I could not agree more with their website: "more than a guest house, but not a hotel ".
