Excellent service from the moment we were dropped off by the Uber. It felt as though we had stepped into a movie. The buildings and garden are picturesque and the service impeccable. Rene our host upgraded us to a magnificent room with a view of the mountain.
Breakfast was delightful, home cooked as well as fruit and lovely fresh bread. Again excellent service and good coffee.
Swimming in the early morning overlooked by the mountain was a memorable exprience.
Highly recommended and very close to shops and activities.

Set in a residential part of Groot Constantia with a beautiful garden and pristine pool. Very spacious and beautiful rooms, honesty bar for night caps and great loungers poolside.
Wonderful host, Rene and service at breakfast from Willard.
Excellent location for shopping and eating close by as well as the vineyards of Groot Constantia.
Easy access to Cape Town central, airport and further destinations.
Very friendly repeat guests who have been coming for years staying for weeks each time.
Will certainly visit again and for longer next time.

When we were researching on the internet for accommodation in or near Cape Town's southern suburbs, the fact nobody had posted a comment on TripAdvisor about Constantia Valley Lodge made us think twice about going there. But we decided the lodge's own internet site made it worth a whack and we're more than pleased we went with our instincts. Our room, in the treetops with balcony overlooking the pool and the mountain in the background, was bigger and even more pleasant than suggested in the internet pictures, with high ceilings, and the most comfortable bed we'd ever had the pleasure to lie in. Lucky to get a warm end of April, we didn't need the underfloor heating, but assume it works as well as the TV which had at least 6 sports channels as well as half-a-dozen news channels. The bathroom was just as excellent, fluffy quality towels of every size, always fresh, and complimentary toiletries that were updated automatically when they neared running out and never a fear that toilet rolls would not be replenished. Water was always piping hot for shower and bath. There was loads of drawer and hanging space for clothes (my other half asked for 17 more hangers on our first day there and had them, all quality wood ones, within minutes). The fridge was more than adequate for our constant flow of bottled water and snacks we bought from supermarkets and shopping malls around Constantia. And anyone who hasn't experienced this little corner of paradise will be in for a pleasant surprise with the number and quality of supermarkets, shopping malls and eating places of every description. Breakfast in the lodge was perfect every day, done to order, and as our 17 night stay neared its end we had to cut back for our own good. The swimming pool looked beautiful, well maintained with loads of sunbeds and surrounded by green lawns. There was always adequate, safe parking out front with security gate and 24-hour staff. The owner/manager Rene was available every morning throughout our stay, always upbeat and helpful. She arranged airport taxis, car hire, and restaurant booking within seconds of asking. Every member of staff we encountered seemed competent and was a pleasure to deal with. We felt like family members by the time we had to leave, reluctantly. Constantia Valley Lodge is an excellent guest house and we hope there is space for us when we next come to the Cape from UK.

Location and accommodation was just what we were looking for. Something clean private and elegant. All the incidents we had whilst staying there for five days made us conclude to this poor rating.
Rene (the owner) has done an excellent job with the accommodation, however her patronising attitude had no limits. Naming and shaming her guests in the middle of breakfast for parking at the "wrong" bay when no one pointed out where each guest had to park.
Then the towels and bedsheets had not been changed once in 5 days.
The tea bags in the rooms not replaced once.
The breakfast was basic and no matter whether we were the first to arrive or last from her guest, still we had to wait 45/60 mins for 2 poached eggs. The toast we had to get up and do it ourselves.
The last straw was on our last day when we had asked for the breakfast at 07:50 to be prepared as soon as they open the breakfast area at 08:00 as we had a flight to catch and my wife being pregnant had to eat something and at 08:25 the waiter came back to confirm our order. When I had asked the waiter whether they started our breakfast or not I was categorically told that breakfast was ready and they just needed to ensure they did not leave something behind. 12 minutes later still nothing...
These were just some of the incidents who let us rate this accommodation so low.
If the owner starts being a bit more discreet in the way she raises any concerns she may have with her guests (as we didn't need to hear her shaming different guests 3/5 days) and employs enough staff to serve her guests timely and efficiently then her accommodation will definately deserve the best rating.
We hope you have a better experience from the one we and the guests who were there at the same time with us had.

We stayed for 6 nights at the beginning of December, but sad to say, in spite of the Lodge being an attractive building with attractive spacious rooms and garden, we can only echo most of the negative comments contributed by previous recent reviewers - e.g. very poor and slow breakfast service - waiting for half an hour for a cooked breakfast then being brought the wrong item - an almost raw boiled egg. The knowing glances from an adjacent couple summed up the situation for us: teabags and milk sachets not replaced each day; bathroom toiletries not replenished and towels not changed during our stay. We were 2 of only 4 guests present during our stay. We were told by the owner that the entire staff had left and had recently been replaced. We were attended to by Nicky who had only started a few days before but who we witnessed on our last day, left on her own to deal with a rather matriarchal lady who was visiting to check on detailed requirements of a forthcoming large group. One night we and the other 2 guests were informed that we would be the only people in the house overnight as the owner who lives next door, had to attend a function. We can only be thankful that there was no emergency that night. Although this was not our first visit to the Lodge, there was also a problem on one night during a previous stay when a group of rowdy young pre-wedding guests climbed up on to the first floor bedroom adjacent to ours as there was no one on-site to let them in. They kept us awake in to the small hours and we were forced to go & admonish them ourselves. There was no apology from the owners the next day. During or recent stay there appeared to be ongoing staff problems but the situation was not helped by the seemingly regular absences by the owners who should have been much more hands-on, supervising staff, checking that things are being done and filling in where things were going wrong. We felt that the whole experience was uncomfortable. There is more to running a guest house than simply owning an attractive house and that is why, in this instance we would not recommend the Constantia Valley Lodge.

We visited Constantia Valley Lodge in March this year as the first part of a tour of South Africa. We arrived at 9:00am after an overnight flight from the UK, but we were given a warm welcome by Renee and her staff who explained that our room wasn't available for half an hour or so, but offered us breakfast in the meantime! (Try that at a chain hotel!) That welcome typified the whole attitude of everybody at Constantia Valley Lodge during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble.

The Lodge is situated in an upmarket residential area and offers very good quality accommodation for guests in what was originally a large family house (similar to those which still surround it). You need a car (or a taxi) to get anywhere, but the counterpoint to that is that it is a small, intimate and really peaceful place to stay where the owners are very closely involved in the management of the property on a day to day basis.
We had Room 6 on the first floor which was effectively an apartment with a bedroom/living room plus a dressing hall; kitchen area ; separate WC and a fully fitted bathroom - all beautifully furnished and with a full width balcony overlooking the rear garden and swimming pool. Bliss!

Fabulous accommodation, facilities, position - absolutely 6* throughout. It is actually only a B&B - but it is as good as the famous Hotel Nelson in central Cape Town!!

Quality furnishings, delightful sunbathing area around a small swimming pool, extremely helpful, professional , owners - always happy to give guidance on trips, eating out, wine tours, etc.

Renee and her staff are wonderful and helped us with our daily trips .
The accommodation was beautifully decorated and spacious ,and the breakfast room open to garden was delightful place to start the day ,all in all a 10.
