For the value we expected dinner service as well but the hospitality of courteous Käthle(owner/manager) compensates every flaw. Since we had no rental car to drive out She organized that we could have dinner delivered to the lodge on our behalf. Great service!
Furthermore, the lodge is in the midst of the great Constanta wine lands so wine tasting is not far away. The winelands sightseeing busstop was just a 200 meters flat walk.

We had the best 5 days at Ikhaya Safari lodge. We were blown away by the breathtaking views and also the size of our room. We had two sofas and a tv which made for a relaxing stay. The breakfast was also one of the best we had in SA - including coffee that was also available throughout the day. We loved the spacious grounds and how easy it was to access Newlands (for the cricket!), Constantia for the wineries and dining and then also Camps Bay for day trips. We will be back and would highly recommend Ikhaya to everyone!

First and foremost I have to give kudos to the Manageress Kathe who was an absolute delight to email with while making our reservation and then who was such a gracious and kind hostess.
The Lodge itself is beautiful with a great view down the valley overlooking Cape Town. The Springbok room was charming with exposed beams, and windows that overlooked the valley and the drive into the property. While power outages due to load-shedding are a problem, Ikahaya has made provisions to minimize the impact of those outages.
Then there was the incredible breakfast which Winnie (sp?) and her team prepared every day. Fantastic!
The icing on the cake was our last day. Our plans to visit Table Mountain the day before were foiled by the wind. So we changed our tickets for the morning of our departure. When Kathe found out about that, she told us to not only leave our luggage at the lodge, but that she would make an unoccupied room available for us to shower and change before heading out to the airport for a long night's travel.
In short, it was a wonderful few days, wish it was longer, but will be back soon!

The lodge is beautifully located in the forests of Constantia, near to all wine farms and great restaurants such as La Colombe.
Friendly welcome and spacious room given.

The rooms are very conservative and could use an interior lift and inspiration. The main house is not my cup of tea, loads of dead heads of animals everywhere, dark and unpleasant atmosphere. The verandah is beautiful overlooking the valley and they have a great Jura coffee machine. Due to Covid no breakfast was offered, however also nothing given to eat for same rate.
The absolute downside to this property is the road and its noise therefore, unbearable, also on Sunday morning, such a pitty

Check-in was perfunctory. The blind for the skylight in the room was broken and the blind for the other window a different shape than the window, so the room was light very early. The wifi in our room was extremely unstable - the connection kept dropping and when it was momentarily available, it was barely strong enough to access Whatsapp messages. When we told the manager, she only replied that someone had checked it the day before. No effort at all to check or try to fix the problem. While the location and views were great, for such a highly rated establishment, it was a disappointing experience overall.

Response from Käthe Phillips, General Manager at Ikhaya Safari Lodge

Hi Kristi Once Again, my apologies for your 'disappointing' stay at Ikhaya. Once again I did not 'dismiss' your complaint about the wifi and rebooted the modem straight away. I suggested you try the wifi signal in our lounge which you did. You checked in for one night and left really early the following morning before I came to work. In all fairness I really had little opportunity to interact with you and friendliness is a two way street - I got the impression you wanted to be left to work. You stayed here on a Friday night and our wifi provider only operates weekdays. They were here first thing on the following Monday to remedy the situation. We have had many young couples staying here for weeks working remotely and have excellent connection. I take great pride in making my guests feel at home and comfortable but you have chosen to run our guest house down ( not just only on this platform) so I feel the need to reply to your review. I had to look up the meaning of 'perfunctory' - a big word meaning without care of effort - my apologies again for your very short disappointing stay.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful "staycation" at Ikhaya and loved the "safari feel" of the lodge, the gorgeous view of the winelands/mountains from the terrace, the close proximity to our favorite wine farms/various restaurants, and the awesomeness of the staff.

I originally booked a room which, after reading the description, sounded like there wouldn't be stairs as my husband recently had knee replacement surgery making stairs difficult at the moment. When we arrived, it turned out there were indeed a flight of steep stairs to get to our room. I let Emma, the owner's daughter who was managing the lodge in her mom's absence) know about the issue and after contacting her mom, she upgraded us to the beautiful honeymoon suite in the main lodge for the same price! Talk about great customer service/satisfaction! Emma also helped us with recommendations for places to eat around the lodge and was just an absolute pleasure to chat with.

We loved sitting outside enjoying a glass of vino on the comfy patio furniture and taking in the beautiful views both in the daytime of the countryside and at night of the city lights sprawled out in front of us. The huge terrace was perfect for that.

There is a gorgeous pool on the property but unfortunately we didn't get to take advantage of it since we were out and about during most of the daylight hours. In addition, my understanding is that there is a restaurant but it wasn't open due to COVID.

We will definitely be back for another staycation prior to leaving our beloved South Africa and returning to our home in America at the end of the year.

Take breakfast on the balcony overlooking Constantia Glenn wine farm, then go wine tasting. Table mountain national park and the wild baboons are across the road and not far from the incredible botanical gardens. Hire a car to easily reach Chapman’s Peak, Simonstown, Kalk bay and Boulder Beach with the endangered African penguins.

However, what will keep me coming back is the host, a wonderful lady called Käthe. A fantastic local guide, Michelin-standard chef, and all round decent human being.

If one has to ask me the question of knowing if I will gladly go back there or recommend someone, my immediate answer will be yes.
We enjoyed everything from the start, was too busy to make the booking for our anniversary gateway and have asked my niece to take care of it.
Her comment was this lady is so nice, she helped me from the beginning to the end, she sent me a link of all the extra things I booked for you guys, I am sure you will enjoy your stay.
Yes my niece was right, just the feeling on arrival made us feel like yes, we are in the right place. So friendly and helpful. Our room was up to standard and the safari feel just added spice into everything.
We had our MCC on arrival in the room as requested, and she even added for us extra threats.
The breakfast was wonderful, the view left us speechless.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay there.

Manager Käthe of Ikhaya is the most hospitable manager we have ever met! With genuine pleasure she hosts you and does everything within her power to make your stay perfect.

The location was perfect for us and weather your are on your way to a safari trip or staying for a couple of days around Cape town it gives you a real safari atmosphere.

We will definitely recommend Ikhaya. Thanks again Käthe for the time we spent in your wonderfulp lodge.
Regards,
