The Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town boasts an excellent location, widely appreciated for its proximity to the Waterfront, enhanced by the convenience of a shuttle service. Guests often speak highly of the hotel's service, noting the friendly staff and excellent breakfast, although some believe there's room to enhance responsiveness. While the rooms receive mixed reviews regarding cleanliness and service, the amenities, including a praised spa and restaurant, generally meet travelers' expectations. However, there's a sense among some guests that the hotel's value doesn't always align with its star rating.

My first visit to the Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel was a pleasure. Despite my booking being in peak season over the New Year period, and the hotel being fully booked, the service was professional and caring. The location is ideal just off the main N2 and N1 highways into the City and the hourly shuttle bus to the V & A Waterfront very convenient. Although the rooms are on the smallish side with limited cupboard space, the rooms were comfortable and clean, linen and towels of exceptional quality. Breakfast were excellent and the atmosphere around the bar inviting. I will be back.

Southern Sun Waterfront is convenient family hotel with friendly staff and drivers.

Rooms
I booked a room with two double beds. The room was dusty, small and congested. The bathroom has a shower and bath which is great when traveling with children. The Wi-Fi is good.

Location
Use the complimentary shuttle to go to the V&A waterfront which is about 5 minutes away. The Waterfront is great for shopping , eating places and tourist sites. They ICC is a 5 minute walk.

Breakfast
Due to Covid restrictions the breakfast room can be considered a new experience. All cereals and fruits are pre-packed and the  staff assist with dishing out. A continental breakfast with decent selection. The selction can get monotonous after a long so the team should consider changing the juice flavours daily, the sides that complement the eggs and the pastries. I enjoyed the croissants and the hot chocolate!

Kids Club

The kid's room is based on the ground floor and has a few activities such as colouring pages. Festive activities such as cupcake decorating, magic show, puppet show was done this year which my niece missed alot.

Pool Area
The pool area is to small and crowds easily.

Covid 19 Protocol

The hotel has various sanitizing points. Safety measures include sanitizing the pen when you entering the hotel, sanitizing your hands when entering the shuttle and breakfast timeslots.

A sanitizing machine needs to be placed in the lift and outside the lift.

Overall this was a disappointing stay and overpriced rate!

Stayed here for 5 nights at the start of covid 19. We were given a room on the 2nd floor from which we could hear road noise. Asked for an upper floor & were given one on the 8th floor. Room had 2 beds was small enough but we slept well. Breakfast was good. Bar staff at night time very good & friendly. Shuttle bus every 30 mins to the Waterfront where we ate every night. It has loads of good restaurants and a shopping mall. All the shuttle drivers were friendly and punctual and had hand sanitiser. israel was particularly good. We did not walk to the Waterfront. Would recommend. Cape town is worth seeing.

Very clean hotel in fantastic location.
We only stayed for 5 days and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Room was a little on the small side but perfectly acceptable for our stay, bathroom was immaculately clean.
Breakfast was excellent and our days got off to the best start ever due to the ladies on the omelette station ...they were just fabulous and made an equally delicious omelette. Also the lovely lady who cleaned the breakfast room floor was just a joy every morning.
We had a quick snack in the hotel which was great & the bar had a great atmosphere.
All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful at all times, apart from a hiccup when we requested a slightly late check out (1 hour) the manager was very abrupt unprofessional and completely uncompromising. He actually said he didn't care about our predicament.
Location was excellent aided by a very efficient mini bus service to the waterfront, which was only about a 10 -15 minute walk away which we felt safe doing, security on the entrance/exit to the hotel and public safety officers at various locations enroute to the waterfront.
Excellent stay which we would recommend & definitely return to when we go back to CT

We tend to book this hotel purely for its location. The Hotel was fully booked and we found the staff to be generally unwelcoming or not interested in dealing with the problems we were facing at the hotel. The hotel is in need of upgrading its facilities, as we had to change rooms after the first night, due to the air conditioning not working (the new room wasn’t much better). Rooms are small with little space for a family of 4 (we booked a family room). I struggled to see the value we were getting from our stay and it is unlikely we will not stay at this hotel again, as we did not sleep properly, due to the uncomfortable beds and noisy air conditioning.

i stayed at the establishment for the weekend, in friday night and out sunday morning. my daughter fell ill and was hospitilised on saturday morning, after spending the entire day at hospital with her i then left with my 4 year old kid to come back to the hotel, while my wife stayed in hospital with my 1 year old. when i got back, i had to order from uber eats, as firstly we did not eat the entire day, secondly the dinner menu was not well prepared the night before, and we had to order twice on the same item for my daughter and paid twice for it to, and she still did not eat it. so she was running on over 24 hours of not eating. the hotel staff refused to bring the food up, they insisted that i either leave my daughter alone in the room while she slept, or carry her downstairs and hold both hands with hot food and walk back up.
on sunday, i had called the front desk to advise them of the situation that my daughter was in hospital and i did not know if they wold discharge her at 9am or 12am, so i requested a late check out of around 12 or 1pm. the lady did not even acknowledge what i had said, instead she just said to me, the room might be booked by someone else so we cannot allow the late check out.
now, i am a tsogo sun member holding a black card, and this is how my interaction is with the staff. i definatly would not be returning there. and i am also thinking long and hard if beig a tsogo sun member is actually worth it.

Stayed in the Southern Sun Waterfront in Cape Town in January for 2 nights. We booked through Expedia or booking.com and had no issues when checking in. Paid in full on arrival. There was a very small additional fee to pay, this was literally a few £.

Hotel is lovely, rooms are on the smaller side but still plenty of space! Staff are so lovely and very, very helpful. Concierge staff as well helped us out lots with best restaurants and booking taxis etc.

Our rate included breakfast. Breakfast was also brilliant. Food was always hot (and not just warm despite being buffet style), really enjoyable.

Didn’t have any negative points to mention for this hotel. Definitely recommend and would definitely return!

This hotel was chosen and booked by our tour operator for five nights as we traveled throughout South Africa. We found everything satisfactory at the Southern Sun after our room assignment was finally sorted out the following day, thanks to reception staff Andrea who graciously accommodated our request. The location is about fifteen minutes walk to the famous and vibrant V and A Waterfront. its a beautiful walk but the hotel do offers a free reliable shuttle to and from the waterfront.

The breakfast buffet was awesome with loads of delicious choices and the most wonderful staff who paid close attention to detail and customer service. The egg station was the best. We were greeted each morning by especially Maryann with a great big good morning and service with a smile. The dinner buffet was bar servise was also excellent. This hotel has great hospitality staff. My husband and I felt safe to walk around on our own.

Just returned from Cape Town because of the Coronavirus. The Southern Sun had a hand sanatizing station everywhere you looked. The breakfast selection was very good. The room was clean and all the staff seemed pleasant and helpful. But the item that stood out for me was their free shuttle, every half hour to the Victoria and Albert waterfront area which was loaded with shops and restaurants.
Once you start understanding the hotel location, you realize it is a very good location. I would stay here again.
