Katherine (not sure of the spelling) - the manager - was so hospitable from the moment I arrived by providing me a map and brochures of what I was interested in doing. The best part was that I needed to call my credit card overseas to make sure there wasn't a hold on my card, and she allowed me to use phone and dialed the # for me. She also provided me the person's Whatsapp # that they use shuttle services to the airport for, I believe his name is Craig. Craig is very friendly, trustworthy, patient and a good driver. He picked me up from Waterfront and charged his normal Uber rate. He also helped me try to find and enquired for sealing/packing tape that wasn't a solution for my suitcase that broke the night before I was leaving, but I ended up just getting it sealed at the airport based on his advice too. My recommendation is for hostel to advertise his contact on sites and communication emails since he's a great staff member of this place!

Cons: Was stuffy in room, and what was given to me at reception ended up being heater instead of fan. Also the private room was literally near a busy road, on a narrow winding stairway path that wasn't lit during all my 5 nights staying there, so the stairs were a bit dangerous. Also, my door lock was sort of broken so hard to lock and unlock door.

Of the three months I spent in South Africa (studying English), almost half of the time I stayed at Zebra Crossing. I arrived at the hostel without speaking one word of English, and yet I felt comfortable and welcomed from the first moment! You were part of my story in this incredible country that is South Africa, and I can only thank you for your love and attention! The Hostel is impeccably clean (bathrooms, rooms, common areas), great Internet connection, and is strategically located close to the city's main tourist attractions (Table Mountain, Lion's Head, Kloof Strett, Long Strett, etc etc), supermarkets, English schools, restaurants... From there it is also easy to reach the beaches and get to points further away from the city center. At first I chose to stay there, because from the reviews I understood that it was a quieter place, with no night parties in the common areas, and it is exactly like that, calm and peaceful, BUT (obviously) it does not prevent socialization / fraternization between guests - I met dozens of cool people (of different nationalities, ages and lifestyles)!! It was one of my best choices in South Africa =)

I have travelled through Africa the last 6 months. During this travel I stayed for two full weeks in Zebra Crossing. I needed some rest, and that is exactly what I got; a feeling like home.

I had a room with a beautiful view on the Tabel Mountain. But what was more exceptionally were the owners and the staff; they were so helpful and welcoming! It felt like home for two weeks. They helped me with all my questions, no matter what. For example, in another hostel the staff washed by clothes wrongly, which caused two ruined (personally valuable) shirts, the staf washed the shirts for many times. Their care made the shirts like new ones.

Probably you won't find a party vibe in Zebra Crossing. But you will find a relaxed atmosphere, where you meet in a relaxed way other travellers and people that got stuck in Cape Town.

I would definitely come back, and recommend this place to every other traveller!

Cheers,

My (private) room was pretty small but all was clean and shower warm. Plenty of space to relax and hang out both inside and outside. Lots of long-term guests while I was there. Lots of smokers too and there didn't seem to be a dedicated smoking area. Communal kitchen busy around meal times so tricky to keep a physical distance at the moment.

This is best place in Cape Town. It’s cheap, charming, clean and the staff is helpful and friendly to a degree long beyond expectations! Bronwyn has her own cafe and is the most magnificent woman! We eat breakfast there every day. We are traveling with family and a group of 42 students and would never go anywhere else.
Braai at the hostel is also worth joining!

The hostel is very nice, calm, friendly and comfortable. It has a family vibe, so if you're looking for a calm quiet hostel to spend the night, this is a great option, but I encountered very varied types of travelers, so it was fun and interesting. I stayed in the Female dorm, and it was very confortable and clean. The staff were very friendly, the cafe was nice, and the location is very convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

Clean! Beautiful views! Close to all amenities! Friendly staff! Comfy beds! Communal kitchen to make your own food. Lovely cafe to enjoy coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Beer also available. Feel part of a family. Parking space available! Travel centre onsite. Wifi throughout. Shared lounges with book exchange. By far the best budget traveller's lodge in Cape Town! Highly recommended!

Had booked 'Double Bed Private; with Shared Bathroom' via booking site as Zebra Crossing is a BazBus pickup/drop off point. We arrived at 9.30pm which is outside check-in hours but details on how to enter had been emailed out so this was not a problem. A cute note with instructions and directions ( a fab drawn map of the hostel) was taped to the front door at our arrival. Key sat in our door. Very smooth.

The hostel has a kitchenette and a few great lounge areas. We had read that it is a quiet hostel and it was. There was a bit of a party in the outdoor area when we arrived but it was over by 10.30ish pm. No issues there.

So to the most important thing about this place. The bed! It was honestly the comfiest bed I ever slept in. Better than my own at home. I did not want to get out of bed the next morning. Our room w double bed was located on the upstairs bit via outdoors spiral staircase.

Another gem in this hostel is the cafe that opens early. Tasty and affordable breakfast with freshly squeezed OJ. Top notch.

After staying here for a while I can tell you that you won't find anywhere else where you get all the facilities for such a low cost. It's clean with an in-house bar and cafe as well as a self-catering kitchen, a fast internet connection, trustworthy staff and a laundry room. I know my belongings are safe when I go out but if you don't want to take my word for it, there is a safe available to keep your valuables in. Other than that, it's close to most amenities and I highly recommend Zebra Crossing.

Although the location is great, it's a dingy place. The kitchen is small and food scraps are always lying around while the cleaning staff are just standing there. There were also a few roaches we saw, but the cats were going after them. There are 2 other backpackers on the same street on either side of this one that I would recommend.
