We stayed for 7 nights at the Fire and Ice Hotel. On arrival we found the decor ultra-modern, not usually our cup of tea, but we got used to it. The room was unusual, in that the shower and sink were in the bedroom, but the toilet was separate, so at least some privacy there! The room was clean and the bed comfortable, with good quality linens and towels. We had everything we needed including tea and coffee making facilities, TV, and hairdryer, but the toiletries were a bit meagre, with just soap, body lotion and shampoo/bodywash, but no shower cap or conditioner provided. We enjoyed our breakfasts, which were well presented with plenty of choice, and a very jolly omelette chef! We also had dinner in the hotel several evenings, where we were impressed with the delicious and very reasonably priced buffet and wines. The staff were all extremely efficient and helpful, especially Sharleen, who gave us very good advice and helped us book tours to Robben Island and Aquila Game Reserve, both excellent tours. We found the location OK, we walked to the museums, Garden area, but took taxis to the V & A Waterfront, where there are many shops and restaurants.

On a recent guided tour to South Africa, this was the hotel we were based in for our 4 days in Cape Town. It is handily located 5mins taxi ride (20min plus walk) from the Waterfront in Cape Town.
It is in a quiet part of the city. The hotel is modern, the staff very friendly and rooms well sized and equipped (although having a curtain to pull right across the width of the room to seperate the room when someone was in the shower is a novelty). Depending on which side of the hotel you are on you get a great view of Table Mountain/Signal Hill.
Breakfast was included and the hoetl breakfast selection was excellent, a good start to the day.
All in all a very pleasant stay, a great base for exploring Cape Town and a good start to the trip

You can just describe this Cape Town hotel as cool. We had booked it at the end of our tour and it was worth it. The location of the hotel is perfect and you can explore Cape Town and the surrounding area wonderfully from here. The rooms are rather small and unfortunately do not have a balcony, but we were only there for sleeping. The house itself is wonderfully designed and corresponds more to the younger generation. We only booked breakfast. This was quite good and there was also a delicious selection for all tastes. The hotel still gets a minus point. Since we had extended after the round trip, there were two different bookings. When we wanted to go to our rooms in the evening this was suddenly not possible as the second booking was not in the system. But this could be clarified with our records. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred again the next day. The lady at the reception was very rude. Only after telephone contact with our tour operator in Germany we were allowed to stay in the rooms. They had simply misfiled our booking at the hotel. So we simply lost two hours of Cape Town that day. We didn't expect any compensation, but an apology would have been nice. Nevertheless, we would use this house again.

This hotel is more ideal for short stays maybe a few days or a week. We stayed 13 nights @ the start service was good roomed cleaned after being out all toiletries towels water refilled but as the days go on towels toiletries water is less. Wi fi and location is good but consistency is not consistent. As a guest I expect the same service as I had when I arrived. Roger the door man is excellent informative friendly and always opened the car door when we used the Uber. For the reasons above my ratings of this hotel have reduced. If nothing bothers you about guest service this is fine for you but me I'm disappointed as I would have given a higher rating.

Nice city hotel. The bed was very comfortable, the room was nicely decorated and everything was clean and well maintained. The breakfast buffet was very varied and the location of the hotel (2 blocks from Long Street) was great.

The Protea Fire & Ice does belong to the Marriott Group and is located approximately 3km away from the Waterfront. It is located in a relatively safe area and you have some restaurants and bars in walking distance at the Kloof St. The Hotel it’s elves need a makeover, especially the rooms are not any longer state of the art. The personal is very friendly and helpful, breakfast offers everything you need. Anyhow, I would recommend a Hotel more near to the Waterfront, or Seapont.

Booked a two bedroom loft, paid 1000 more than a one bedroom then charged 300 more for second person? Odd smell in the room.
Great buffet, good food and service.
Disappointing service from front desk and management.
Better options in cape Town.

Great friendly & helpful young team here in a new, modern hotel that is well located and offers real comfort, good facilities and a fantastic breakfast.
At first it all looked a bit trendy and we were worried that it would be all style and less substance, but the there is a real emphasis on good old fashioned quality of service here. The team is young but really do seem to care and were really great.
Location is really good - a 20 min walk to the Waterfront means that you have to explore other areas and Kloof St is round the corner and a real gem. Then of course there are the great views of Table Mountain from one side of the hotel to enjoy.
Special mention for the breakfast and the lovely fresh scones and really great eggs from the cooks. Added to the friendly young team there every morning it was a great start to every day.
The only downside is the gym. Two cardio machines is just not enough for a place the size and I was never able to complete a full workout, despite the gym not being busy at all.

This is a funky hotel but requires front desk training. I’ll start with the positives. Large size beds, good aircon and wifi, secure onsite parking at a reasonable rate of R60, the breakfast experience is great, good service, lovely omelettes and a nice spread. Centrally located and a fantastic Client Relations Manager. The down side. Small rooms and small bathrooms with poor sound proofing from the corridors, so some nights were noisy with people screaming or laughing in the corridors. I booked a special through the Marriott app, but the reception did not know about it nor did they apply the discount. Despite my protests, I was continuously brushed off. Only after raising a complaint with Marriott, did the front desk bother to look into it, and then admitted their error. After checking out and settling my bill, my holding deposit was kept for a full week before being released. I called the hotel a few times to query, not one of the people who promised to investigate actually called me back.

We stayed here for 5 nights in September (18th - 22nd). We were given the warmest of welcomes by front desk. Check in was smooth & fast. We had been given an upgrade which was a lovely surprise. Our room was clean, airy & the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style with a large selection of hot food, which also had an egg station. There was a great selection of pastries & fruit available. Dinner was also buffet style, again with a fantastic variety. There was also a bar menu (highly recommend the burgers). The bar area had comfortable seating to relax in. The only issue I had was with the driver out front that the concierge recommended to us, he was very expensive & overcharged us on numerous occasions. I felt he could have treated us better as we tipped him generously. We didn't realise this until we got a taxi at night that brought us back to hotel for half the price. My opinion would be to use an Uber. Other than this, our stay was fantastic.
