I really enjoyed my stay at this guest house. The host picked me up at the airport and dropped me off at the end of my stay for a reasonable fee. I was the only guest in the place and was pleased to be greeted by Gigi the Labrador Retriever upon arrival. The room was clean and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. The free breakfast was great too. One of the staff also made me a free cup of rooibos tea when I was getting settled in as well. I will be sure to come back next time I visit Cape Town. Best wishes, Roger Thompson

Gary and I didn't stay in touch as often as we should have. The week before we arrived, we had been assured that our requests for rooms and bed would be accommodated with no issue. Upon arrival, the house staff tried to put several families in one suite and didn't have the beds we requested. This did not make sense as our group was the only ones staying at the house that night. The host was not in-town upon our arrival. When our group pushed back, they did fix the issue and everyone's request was accommodated. However, this was not a great start to our vacation. Later, we had a discussion with Gary and he said to our group that he didn't have as many king sized beds as we requested and as many as advertised. To me, that's false advertising so beware. Also, despite being listed as an amenity, breakfast is not included and is available only at an extra cost. We did not find this out until we arrived. Keep that in mind before you book. Aside from the breakfast at the house, which is also not great quality, there are not many options around for eating spots. There is only one place that opens before 10am and that's the 24/7 bakery attached to the gas station at the end of the street. Admittedly, it has fresh coffee and fresh croissants starting at 7am which was worth the extra cost. If breakfast is your favorite meal, you'll be disappointed here. Above all, the biggest issue we had was with his dog, which was on-site every day but never mentioned on the website as being there. It was not a concern until the dog tried to attack my daughter on day 2 of our stay after she tried to pet it. She had played with the dog on the first day with no issues but the dog is skittish and shy which makes for an unpredictable dog. The host claims that the dog is now banned from the house but before you book, I would reach out and double check if that is a concern to you. Our group did have a sit down discussion with him when he returned to talk through all of our concerns but it didn't start out well as Gary became very defensive and seemed dismissive of our concerns. Especially about his dog trying to attack my daughter. After a member of our group diffused the tension, the conversation was much more amicable but it was too little too late at that point. Bottom line is that I will pay a bit extra for better hospitality and less stress on the V&A Waterfront and won't stay here again and won’t recommend it to anyone.

Response from Gags123, Gerente geral at Bellevue Manor House
Responded 26 Nov 2018
Hi Stephanie It is with a deep sense of sadness & regret that I address this reply to you. Apologies for the delay in replying to your review. We will repeat our unreserved apology for the disappointment that you experienced during your 3-day visit to Bellevue Manor, Sea Point last month. Your review came as a surprise, notwithstanding our meeting Saturday to receive feedback & resolve the issues at hand. A detailed reply to your review follows below: ACCURACY FEEDBACK: Our breakfasts are a standard feature at Bellevue Manor. All fresh produce; pastries, breads, cheeses, juices, fruits, biscuits, etc. are sourced from Woolworths & Shoprite/Checkers daily. Our hot menu is served on an individual basis, eggs served to order & rashes of bacon, inter alia. Of the 8 or so AirBnB bookings that we have received over the years being listed, not once have we served a breakfast to the guests. This, more than any other reason, is why we were surprised to find our listing stated breakfast included, a fatal error (?), but easily remedied by offering the breakfast to you at no extra cost. Unintentional error. Gigi, 2-year-old the golden, female Labrador, joined our family March 2017. This was after we listed Bellevue Manor, Sea Point in October 2011, many years prior. We had failed to update our listing to include her as part of the family. Gigi is a part –time visitor to Bellevue Manor, & because I returned home on Friday 19 October from a short business trip abroad, she had been visiting the Guesthouse more often in my absence. Her behavior towards your daughter came as a complete shock. Never has it happened before this event. We are not dog psychologists, however in our simple minds we believe she may have been stressed by the noise & playfulness of the 2 children of the Afro-American couple. In addition, we received a complaint from guests (a reservation from Harvey World Travel, Richards Bay) concerning the noise & disturbance caused by this family. CHECK-IN FEEDBACK: You admit that we did not stay in touch often enough prior to your arrival. I tried several times to make contact with you prior to my brief trip away. The purpose was to engage you & provide peace of mind that all would be Ok. You are incorrect in your observations towards the number of other guests booked in on your 1st night’s accommodation. – a Richards Bay family of 4 were booked into the 2 x bedroomed self-catering cottage, although they enjoyed our breakfast during their 3 day stay with us. However, more guests arrived the following day. And the day of your arrival we had a group of 12 guests depart after having stayed 5 nights. Thank you for acknowledging that we were able within a very short space of time to provide you alternative room options in order to satisfy your requirements towards King size beds. We have multiple room configurations & we were able to provide you with the best solution at the time of check-in after engaging with you. COMMUNICATION FEEDBACK: As previously mentioned I had on several occasions tried to make contact with you via mobile & email, but failed! Apologies for my absence on Thursday, your check-in day. I returned Friday, but your group was out at the time. I phoned you immediately & we met on Saturday morning to iron things out. Bellevue Manor is left in capable hands during my brief absences. We have a resident staff member on-site & sleeps-in, 24 hr security & electrical fencing & provide secure off-street parking, when requested. It is a family run/managed Guest House with brother’s, a sister, nephew & niece all in some way involved with the operation. LOCATION FEEDBACK: One of the special attractions of Bellevue Manor, Sea Point, is indeed its location in proximity to restaurants & other eating establishments including supermarkets. You are spoilt for choice because you have a selection of at least 10 excellent restaurants within a radius of 1km of Bellevue Manor. I have discussed the quality of our breakfasts earlier in my reply. VALUE FEEDBACK: Our net receipt from your reservation amounts to R305 per person per day sharing in a 3 ***star Guest House. We regret the mis-understanding of the breakfast as an optional extra, which we believed by offering same for two of the days was our humble was of saying sorry. If you believe we should process a refund, or part thereof, please feel free to make request. In conclusion, we would have preferred that you had a way more memorable 3 night stay with us. One never stops learning, & we sure learnt something new with your reservation !! Sincerely Gary DeCastro

Stayed 5 nights here and didnt want to leave. Cozy, old home, with a warm welcoming staff that made us feel like family. Owner Gary helped us confirm our plans and Ferdi and his co-worker (didnt get her name) made certain a beautiful breakfast was presented and rooms spotless. Highly recommend this place if you want a super cozy stay in a great spot!

The most amazing hospitality I've experienced in a long time. Beautiful old house and the hosts, Gary and Ferdi could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and stress free. Would recommend this establishment to anyone and will definitely be staying there again.

We so enjoyed staying at Bellevue Manor. Gary, Ferdi and Ferdi's sister are wonderful. The cottage we stayed in was totally sufficient and clean and size-wise, was fine for the 5 of us (parents and 3 sons...21, 17, 17). Gary and Ferdi went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and that we were happy with our accommodation. We stayed in the 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage at the back and because we had this unit, we had parking on the property. There is a swimming pool and braai/bbq facilities available. Bellevue Manor is very centrally located and we felt very safe staying there. We would definitely stay there again :)

We hired one of Gary's holiday apartments for our visit to CT for the Cape Cycle Tour (which was subsequently cancelled due to bad weather) and it suited us down to the ground. Very spacious, well equipped and very central - it had everything that we needed. Gary is a very gracious and attentive host.

Spent 4 nights In Bellevue Manor Guest House and was delighted. Mostly because of the staff who was super...always friendly and helpful :-) The house itself is very charismatic with it's many corridores. They serve decent continenal breakfast...and with decent I only mean it's not enough for me :-)) Don't care so much of the South African breakfast...lots of sweet stuff that doesn't keep the hunger away. Had a VERY little room, which didn't feel like a prison cell since there was light and somehow they had managed to squeeze in a fridge, safety box and a tv (flat screen). And the pool was nice. WIll definitely come back :-)

Thank you George. Apologies for the size of room. We were really busy with so many guests during your stay we would have preferred to have offered you 1 of our larger en-suite rooms. As you say: next time we promise to allocate a larger room. I'm unsure whether you enjoyed a "hot" breakfast - did you order your bacon & eggs ? And a 2nd helping would not have been a problem for us. Thanking for taking the time to offer a truely honest account of your stay with us. Sincerely Gary & team Bellevue Manor, Sea Point, CT

For more than 5 years I have been travelling to Cape Town on vacation. Each time is as memorable as the previous and the experience at Bellevue Manor Guest House is a large part of that. The staff are very helpful and always warm, even when the weather is not :) The facilities are nicely balanced between modern comfort and vintage design and feel. The location is also ideal for those do not know their way around the city and require quick access to basic services. It is everything you like about being home, minus the chores :)

After 30 hrs getting to Cape Town, the Owner/Mgr who was supposed to pick us up at the airport never showed. When we got to the Inn, he made some excuse and said he was there but left thinking we had small children and he didn't want to deal with them. The Inn was freezing, no one was ever available to help us with any questions and their idea of a breakfast included instant coffee. There was no concern for the Inn or people staying there as we were the only ones. We went next door to the Sweet Orange Guest House for the most wonderful experience.

Apologies for long delay in replying to your review which is factually incorrect. I personally drove to the Cape Town International airport & after waiting 2 hours after the flight arrived decided to return to Bellevue Manor, car empty & no guests. I was bitterly disappointed. Then, on your arrival you challenged my staff & I to settle/pay the driver/taxi-man for your airport transfer ? Wow ! 1 of our staff live on site at Bellevue Manor, so their is always someone at Bellevue Manor to take care of your needs. We orginally allocated a triple en-suite room, but your arrival indicated 3 adults, so we offered you a 2 x bedroomed (both rooms en-suite) cottage, as an alternative. But then you decided against it. Sorry we couldn't please you & glad you ended up in a happier place.
