I just want to take the opportunity to say thank you to the wonderful ladies at Once in Cape Town , for backpacker accommodation they really went above what is expected.
Check-in was seamless and fast. Covid screening was done upon arrival and when I got to the room it was really more then what I was expecting to be honest. As I did not want to be around to many people the ladies at the reception gave me the option to sit in the court yard which has a nice cozy fireplace and nice common area. Michaela and Jeanine was so helpful cause I had a lot of questions. Nice surrounding area with a cozy restaurant attached to the place. All in all I was very satisfied and would definitely return.

It's in a great spot for exploring nightlife, shopping, and the restaurant scene since it's all within about a 15min walking distance. Very friendly and chill staff, especially considering the number of times I locked myself out of my room. Breakfast was simple but fresh, and the bar at night had a great crowd. The rooms were basic but comfortable, and my only real complaint was that they were having issues with their hot water that week (probably bc of the renovations) so I took a lot of cold showers.

We stayed at Once in Cape Town for 1 night, we were warmly welcomed by Michaela and Jeanine. Check in was easy and fast, the rooms were beautifully decorated and comfortable. I loved the vibe and that fact that we were able to sit in the back by the fire. Once is centrally located and within walking distance from restaurants if you feel like going out for something to eat. I would highly recommend Once to anyone looking for accommodation in the city :)

If you are 19 years old who wants to get drunk and party, this is the place. Otherwise I can't understand the hype.
Room was dark(see the actual photo taken at 10am!!!) and impossible to see anything. Very small and hardly suitable for 4 people
Toilet and showers were facing the bar so you see people at the bar when you shower and they see you...
Beds were also facing the bar so same issues. You can close the blinds and window but then you will suffocate from heat as there is no AC, steaming hot(hot even with windows open) and room will be dark as a closet. Told the reception about the light and they brought a small camping light after inspecting our room, but it almost gave no light.

Noise. OMG... So the hostel is on the main street, lots of traffic, with 2 floors of bars and a school across. During the day it is loud, so you not easy to sleep. At night getting any sleep until maybe 12am+ is just impossible!! Smoke from the bar and people sitting just 1meter from your window gets inside. Closing the window means you will boil in a room with no AC. Impossible combo! So, so loud. At 10:20pm part of the bar on the 2nd floor was closed, but it provided very little noise relief as other 2nd floor portion was still occupied by screaming drunks for much longer. So is the first floor, which was so packed, getting through to reception is not that easy!!

Breakfast was on the small side with a croissant, 1 fruit and musli+ coffee. No options for people with allergies or restrictions. It's 2020,so not a good sign.
Seems like this place is run to squeeze as much profit as possible without thinking about comfort.
Would I stay here again? Not a chance, even if it is free!! As said previously in all my years of travel and 100s of hotels in 50+ countries this has been one of the worst if not the worst experience.

This hostel works very unserious. I booked a 10 days stay and an airport transfer at this place in Dec 2021. Because of Omikron I had to cancel the whole trip. Despite several emails with the request that they should refund me the transfer cost, they haven't responded to my emails and have not refunded the amount. Fortunately, I booked the accommondation through Hostelworld and received the money. From this hostel I probably would not have received the overnight costs. Everyone hast to work for their money but this hostel makes money at the expense of others. If you expect a serious service avoid this hostel.

I actually went with a group, as in tour group. Okay. I am 66 years old. This place, while lovely in the morning on the front patio & coffee bar, is not appropriate for those past their 30s (generalization). The front patio becomes a bar by night, as does the 3rd floor front (maybe it's the 2nd floor?), also a patio, complete with BLASTING music, which does end by 11:00 p.m. If you don't care about sleeping with the music, etc., it's for you. I stayed there twice. The first time I was on the backside, not so bad aside from some conversations held in the back work area. The second time I was on the front with no way to escape the sounds that go with a young-crowd bar. I did have silicone earplugs which helped a lot, but not enough when I was staying on the front side. While the staff was extremely nice, they did not allow room changes.

Due to corona I had to cancel my trip to Cape Town in May. I was asked if I would take a credit note instead of a refund but due to my personal circumstances had to decline. Since then whenever I have been in contact I have been told my request has been forwarded to the accounting department followed by no further communication or my emails have been ignored outright. From my previous contact with them I would have expected a higher level of professionalism. It’s a shame one has to resort to writing on social media when all that was needed was an emailed response.

After everything that's going on This was just a night me and my Husband needed. Well prepared on our arrival - the rooms were clean and neat. The ladies Mikayla, Janine and Puleng was so helpful and friendly. Both me and my husband felt like we were at home. The vibe and everything that comes with it was just worth it.

Great place, great location, loved the bunk beds in the shared rooms. They also have great private rooms, beautifully decorated (urban, calm, bright) and big.
Loved the garden area and the community kitchen. And ofcourse the helpful, enthousiast and friendly staff!

I'm no expert but I'm sure in the popular areas its as safe as anywhere else. We just walked around and didn't give it a thought.Had a few beers, a meal, was great. However, the next day I was strolling along and suddenly felt very vulnerable, no people around, slightly run down area. i went and stood in a service station and called a cab. Just be aware
