My husband and I spent 5 nights in this beautiful Victorian style boutique hotel and we enjoyed every minute of it. The decor was very inviting and cozy throughout the building. Our room was spacious with a big bathroom. We were there during the winter time so hot water bottles were placed in our beds for extra warmth. We slept like a baby. 😊 The staff was very friendly and helpful. Special thank you to Memory and Kirsten who made us feel welcomed and very well taken care of.
This hotel served breakfast from 7:00 to 10:30 am and eggs and toast were cooked to order. The kitchen staff made sure we were not missing anything. The location of this hotel is a few blocks away from Kloof Street which had plenty of restaurants for us to enjoy at lunch or dinner time. Taxi and Uber rides to Waterfront were around 80 - 100 Rands, estimated $5.
Our flight did not leave until 9 pm on Friday night and we were allowed to keep our room until in the evening so that we could freshen up before our flight.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Welgelegen House and will definitely come back to stay again when returning to Cape Town!

My husband & I were lucky to stay for 4 nights at Welgelegen House early October. Memory and Prince looked after us so well. We were booked into a standard room and when we had a problem with the shutters Memory was really quick to get this sorted out and even offered to move us. All of the staff were so friendly, smiley and helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble and there was lots of support and advice. It was really easy to book Ubers from here to get to the V & A waterfront and a five minute walk to several restaurants in Kloof Street & you couldn't beat the view of Table Mountain behind.

It’s not everyday that you travel six thousand miles to find yourself in Cape Town for the first time! How fortunate we were to receive a royal welcome at this lovely upmarket and charming guest house. There is a difference between a house and a home and from the outset we knew that this was a home from home. A lovely handwritten card to welcome us, big smiles from Prince, Memory and their team and a spacious room, with an old-fashioned charm and a little garden area with Table Mountain as a backdrop. There is also a lovely garden at the front of the house reminiscent of the patios of Cordoba or Sevilla.

Home made biscuits in the room, real coffee with a cafetière, fruits and even a decanter of port as a nightcap, if desired! This place has that eye for detail. Breakfast, served in the cool dining area, or outside in the patio next to a small plunge pool, was a delight with eggs also cooked to order if you are still hungry.

It’s the sort of place that encourages people to talk to each other, not a breakfast experience where people talk to each other in hushed tones. The other public spaces are beautifully furnished, with comfortable sofas and with lots of coffee table books and artworks on the region and the landscapes and flora and fauna of this diverse and beautiful country.

Security is an issue in Cape Town and Welgelegen House is situated in the pleasant Gardens area of the town, with great restaurants in walking distance on Kloof Street ( I would particularly recommend Black Sheep, great food and service and a good mixture of tourists and locals.) The team here are happy to make reservations and recommendations for eating out or excursions and they will organise taxis to take you out and bring you back. Reception is manned 24/ 7.

For us it was a pleasure to stay here for just three nights and to enjoy such a warm welcome to South Africa by all the staff. Thank you everyone.

Peter and Louise from Guernsey.

Prince greeted us warmly upon entering this beautifully appointed set of Victorian houses. He had a terrific sense of humor which made our stay even more delightful. The staff was more than accommodating and happily told us about all the terrific outings Cape Town has to offer. Breakfast was delicious and the staff even insisted on ironing my blazer for a birthday dinner! Thanks to Prince and the staff for a perfect stay!

Don’t miss the Botanical Garden, The Cape of Good Hope, and stop to have a coffee at Truth.

We enjoyed a fantastic 3 night stay at Welgelegen. Best welcome from any hotel - EVER! Prince & Memory welcomed us as if it was there own home. Couldnt be more welcoming, friendly & super helpful with restaurant recommendations & best way to get about the city. Nothing too much trouble... WOW service! Our room was very spacious & comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Lovely lounge area & hotel has bags of character. Excellent breakfast selection. Welgelegen is situated in a quiet but very convenient location for exploring the city near Kloof Street, the Waterfront, Camps Bay & much more. Highly recommended. Thanks to all the team for making us SO welcome - it was truly a memorable start to our South Africa adventures!

Fantastic!! The staff here made a point to get to know us personally which made the visit extra special. Memory was especially wonderful!!! The rooms are unique, comfortable and cute. The breakfast was perfect. We loved hanging around the sitting room - places to read and play games or just relax. Our daughters (23 and 20) loved it too! We hired a vehicle in Cape Town and it was safe to park it in front of the hotel for the duration of our stay (5 days). Highly recommend!!!

We spent 2 nights at Welgelegen House. Memory and the team, made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The room and ensuite were clean, comfortable and it felt like home from home. The breakfast was very good, starting early to allow for guest to get an early start on seeing the sights of Cape Town.
We spent an evening in the lounge, the honesty bar was much appreciated. I would go back there, when I visited Cape Town again.

A lovely guest house. We didn't know what to expect as we've usually been in hotels rather than guest houses. The team were so welcoming and friendly. The room was fantastic with a lovely view of table mountain. Breakfasts were great tasting and well prepared. The sitting area was lovely and honesty bar for the evenings was a great idea. This is in a great location with easy access to local restaurants. The team also gave helpful recommendations about where to eat in the evening and helped us with bookings. We would very highly recommend this guest house. Would love to return.

Our South Africa trip began in Cape Town, where we were fortunate enough to spend 4 days at the Welgelegen Guest House. Our arrival alone set a wonderfully positive tone for our vacation; after over 24 hours of travel, Memory greeted us so warmly that we instantly felt awake and full of adrenaline. The guest house is beautiful and creates a familial atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, and there's a lovely terrace that invites relaxation. Unfortunately, we couldn't spend as much time at the guest house as we'd have liked because we were busy exploring Cape Town and its surroundings. Memory provided us with numerous insider tips that were well worth it. The breakfast in the morning is the perfect start to the day, freshly prepared and highly varied. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. We highly recommend this accommodation and would stay at the guest house again without hesitation. 5 stars. Many heartfelt thanks to each and every one who made our stay so unforgettable. Gabriele Rudolph & Kevin Hengfoss

Our first visit to Cape Town started with 4 nights at this home away from home. The staff were so welcoming and helpful with every aspect - recommending restaurants and helping to schedule our days of sightseeing. Prince checked in with us every day - so helpful. The breakfast was perfect - loved the home made bread. The location was great and easy to get around everywhere either walking or taking an Uber. I would definitely recommend staying here to any of my friends who were visiting Cape Town.
