I have booked into the Lenox guest house well over 5 times already with my entire family and it was an extremely pleasant place to live at while on holiday, I have booked there again for this past December 2022 under new management and sadly this time around it was a nightmare, For the life of me I do remember requesting bookings from 23 December 2022 to the 01 Jan 2023, We reached the Lenox on the 22.12 at 11.30pm and was requested to pay to sleep for the night which we did and was welcomed by a very arrogant Lady Nthabi, We were so exhausted from the drive and just needed to sleep! we paid and were escorted to our room, I didnt even check the invoice I was given, on the 31st of December we woke up and got ready to visit Family from in Belhar after reaching Belhar i recieved a phone call asking me why my stuff is still in the room, i was so confused, I was then told i was supposed to check out on the 31st Decmber as my booking was only till then, I left Belhar immediately to drive back to the Lenox which took me about 20 mins max, Apon reaching the guest house to go to our room the Room was already locked open, Bedding was changed, Room was cleaned WHILE MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS were still in the room, I felt very violated that people went through my stuff moving it around, touching it! I was told they trust the people that went into the room while my stuff were still there, We then left the guest house with nowhere to go as every single place we could afford was fully booked , The Lenox management didn't even have remorse or humanity as to where we would go to for the next two days and we were so far from home, All i received was arrogant messages and phone calls, I will never ever be booking or recommending The Lenox Guest House to any one I know, so sad that a life long holiday home became something of my past! All the manager could show me was screen shots of my Booking WITH THE INCORRECT NAME on the booking, when considering to book, please make sure your bookings are correct becouse this place has no remorse they will leave you sleeping in your car, Its all about the money for them! Im extremely disappointed in what I was put through and the people i dealt with!

What a lovely old House. When I first arrived with my two kids the neighbours dog gave me a bit of a fright with his loud bark. The outside could do with a splash of paint but on entering we found ourselves in this lovely old house with lots of wood and charing quirky furniture. The staff were always warm and welcoming. Always helpful. We used the laundry service twice and were really happy with it. My kids (6&11) felt right at home and were treated with a lot of kindness we are grateful and will return for sure. We felt like family and already muss everyone at the Lenox. Don't forget to try the delicious breakfast.

It was our first visit to the Lenox. When we booked by phone, the person was pleasant. However, when we arrived the next morning, she, the manageress, was hostile, businesslike and a bit aloof. The support staff were most helpful. The manageress did not give us any information about bathrooms, routines, cleaning services or dining. We had to play it by ear or ask fellow residents. On the plus side, the communal areas, like the bathrooms, are always clean, and they offer a good breakfast. However, the establishment does not have a card machine, so you have to go to an ATM to draw cash. The general atmosphere is gloomy, and there are notices displaying rules everywhere. There are a few balconies, and many pause areas. The lounge area closest to us was draughty. Our room floor was dusty, but the bedding was crisp and clean. The white towels were rough, and the communal showers had no soap. There were tiny slivers of soap at the hand basins. The building is huge and has a Gothic like feel, with dim lights, and a headless bride on the ground floor. The staircase to our room was endless. The dinginess of the curtains in our room, the chipped walls in the building, and the added hostility of management, made the trip unpleasant. As the windows in our room were welded shut, it was claustrophobic and muggy. No fans were offered for the sweltering guests. The rate is high, as the hostel has nothing to offer and is below par. There are CCTV cameras everywhere, which must have been costly to install, yet there is no card machine. Our short stay was far too long. I do believe the owners could afford an upgrade, and also invest in hospitality training for staff. The floors could also be sanded and polished, as accommodation there is not cheap. The hostel feeds on the surrounding attractions, while offering nothing to its patrons.

I stayed at the Lenox for two weeks in January this year. Charlene and Geraldene, who run the guesthouse, made me feel very much at home. The historic building dates back to the 1840s and you'll find an interesting and friendly mix of South African and international boarders. The age set here is older than that of Long Street and as a result the place is quiet and peaceful. I took a room at the back facing the former art studio of Vladimir Tretchikoff. The Lenox had fallen on hard times, according to a number of locals who are familiar with the place, but I can say that it is now solidly back on its feet, and a lovely and affordable option, even in season. Cheers for a great stay!

We (2 friends and I) stayed here over New Years and it was perfect - it's within walking distance of Long Street, where many of the bars are & dance clubs are. The staff was very friendly & extremely accommodating. We stayed in a twin bedroom with an extra bed added in for the 3rd person - the bathrooms are common hallway bathrooms but kept relatively clean. The shower is not the greatest but it does well for the price. Very comfortable stay & I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Cape Town!

The Lenox is an old german Guesthouse - its old - but charming, a sort of colony style... but it is a fine place and wonderful cheap for long term stay.....very close to everything. You can walk down in the CityCentre in just 10 minutes. Long Street is close, the Company Garden is just few steps away, The Grand Parade (big market) and Station is 15 minutes walk away. The Staff is kind, the towels and sheets are clean and the place are based on family and grown-up guests. Not a party place with noice during the night. A quiet place with lovely guests and staff. For a period of 2 years the Guesthouse was leased out to another backpacker-hostel owner...and this was a periode, where this place got its bad rumour. huge noice, drugs, thefts etc. Its now back on the owners own hand and evertything is back to NORMAL - in the old shape.... I can only say, I am happy to visit and stay this cheap place, where staff become a part of my family as I stay for long term each year the last 4 years. ...BY THE WAY... I love Cape Town <3 You can keep your food in a plasticbag in a fridge for guests..and you are allowed to use kitchen - but paying for the Gas. The GardenCentre is just around the corner, where you can buy grosseries and much more.

We stayed at The Lenox over new year and it was a pleasant stay. The staff and guests alike were friendly. The room was very basic, but comfortable. We were looking for a safe place to sleep at night and we got that. The place is close to the city, which meant many shops available to us within walking distance. It was really convenient that Long Street was a short walk away. If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay, at an affordable price and meet amazing people, stay at The Lenox.

At night they use combustible material to heat water and it produces thick choking smoke that pollutes the entire area for over an hour each night. Really irresponsible given our knowledge of human influence on climate change and very unpleasant to breath in the toxic fumes... Stay away! There are plenty of other affordable much better run backpackers in the area.

Upon arriving at the gate, we waited quite a while for someone to open up. Once a staff member did arrive, they were extremely rude and unhelpful to us. What kind of guest house doesn't allow people in to have a look at their accommodation?? Ive also read other reviews on this place and saw there is a lot of theft going on here, so maybe its just as well. I may of left without my wallet of cellphone if i had gone in!!! Not a nice place at all :(

Went to a concert in Cape Town, the awesome started to die down once the sun started coming up and thoughts of sleep came to the fore. I was in no state for the drive home so a friend suggested I crash at The Lenox. My girlfriend and I did. Keenly priced, clean facilities, friendly staff and a quaint setting. What more could you ask of a backpackers!?
