The Villa comprises two houses which form part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. These double stories have been joined and so the inside spaces are very spacious. “It's like walking into a tardis” someone has written on Tripadvisor! The hotel is owner managed. Location is vital when choosing a vacation venue and the Villa is within an easy walk of most tourist attractions while some, (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter we serve in a sociable dining room with an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts will happily arrange car rental, restaurant bookings, tours etc if required. Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available in all rooms. A staff member is on duty throughout the night to offer complimentary port and sherry and there is also an honesty bar available. Parking is on street at no charge (with street guard) - though most manage without a car.

We found it impossible to find fault with An African Villa. Quality accommodation in a wonderful location within a short Uber ride of all that Cape Town has to offer. Breakfasts were excellent and plentiful. Thoroughly recommended!!

Not sure what I can add to the previous reviews except to say that if you are thinking of booking a room at the African Villa just do it! We stayed for a week and the villa is a perfect place from which to explore Cape Town. The location is central and safe and the owners/staff were extremely helpful and professional (they sorted out our hire car/restaurtants etc.and their recommendations were always spot on). The villa is exactly as it looks on the website, very relaxed but luxurious and it really felt like we were coming home at the end of each day. Our room was very stylish and absolutely huge! I do not know anywhere else where you can get this standard of accommmodation for such a reasonable price. I will definitely return!

On our two previous stays in Cape Town we have stayed at the Cape Grace and the Kensington both of which we liked but the African Villa was easily the most relaxed and comfortable place to stay and by far the best value for money. We had a superior room which was worth the little extra as it was larger with a balcony and a separate bath and shower.

I red the books, looked at the websites and decided on An AFrican Villa (----------------------------------------) and I never made a wiser decision. Tucked away in the "gay" area of Cape Town this little gem is within walking distance of great restaurants and a brisk walk to the heart of the city (a couple of miles). The rooms are stylish, comfortable and large. Immaculately clean and presented, this is a real alternative to impersonal hotels. Don't get me wrong, there might be a homey feel to this place and you might have to share a table for breakfast but there is no intrusion on your privacy. As a single female traveller, I like the best of both worlds! I stayed at several other places in Cape Town but none of them even came close--and two were more expensive.

Our travel partners chose “An African Villa” as our accommodations in Capetown for recuperation after our two-week safari. My wife and I are very hard markers and wondered if we shouldn’t be staying at one of the expensive waterfront hotels.
Well – what a wonderful surprise and experience we had at the “African Villa”! Along with the best of care, the accommodations were great and the location was perfect. Louis, one of the owners, was the best concierge to date as he handled every request expertly and pleasantly. Dining suggestions were efficiently followed by reservations. Suggestions and guidance were given to ensure the most enjoyable visit to the cape region.
If you want to know what’s happening in Capetown and not just experience the typical - for ' hip and chic' - Louis and Marcel and the “African Villa” are where it’s at.

The best part of our South Africa trip.
The best accommodation.
The best people.
The best weather.
The best safety.
The best food and drink.
The best night life.
The best wineries.
The best maids - Tandy was so sweet!
The best value for money - We'd have paid double if they asked.

We loved Louis, Marcel and the African Villa.

THANK YOU for a great Cape Town experience.
We will return, and waste no time heading straight to the Villa.

I highly recommend An African Villa! I found the hotel on this website when I was looking for a small hotel so I could avoid a huge hotel with no character. This hotel and the staff exceeded my expectations.

My husband and I stayed there for 5 nights in November. It’s located in a quite neighborhood, but it’s close to everything. The staff was exceptionally helpful and is a great resource when you are looking for a way to spend the day or a restaurant suggestion. I didn’t even have to read the guide book I purchased on Cape Town because they provided all the information. A wonderful full breakfast is served every morning, there is free internet access and a lounge with complimentary sherry and guidebooks. I would stay here again.

We had stayed in An Africa Villa for 4 nights prior to embarking on the Garden Route before Xmas. I was amazingly surprised with the level of service and the quality of the rooms. We had a lovely view of Table Mountain from our bedroom. They were very clean and modern. We had arrived very early in the morning using their directions and photographic maps which proved to be very useful. The location is in a quiet residential area which felt very safe as there is a security guard walking the locality. Jimmy had greeted us in the morning when we arrived before 8am and asked us if we wanted breakfast and afterwards he gave us a detailed orientation of Cape Town – this was very useful if we wanted make most of the short time we had there. Note that they also warned us which parts of Cape Town were not desirable to go to at night which I thought was very good however I must say that we did get approached by a three teenagers near the centre of town to handover some cash when they were threatening us by saying that one of them had a knife in their pocket (which we did not see but this was not near this B&B). When told them we had no money and showed them an empty money pouch they had left us alone. However this did not ruin our stay in Cape Town (Louis and Jimmy did say not to carry too much cash – good advice!!). Breakfast was great including fresh fruit, cheeses, juices, cereals, cakes and fried breakfast which you could have inside or outside by the pool. They will even arrange for a packed breakfast if you had to leave early in the morning. There was also complimentary Sherry and Port which you could help yourself too as well. He also gave us a calling card for us to use particularly for calling abroad which was very cheap – much cheaper than using your UK mobile. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the restaurants in Cape Town giving us the low down on the good and bad points of certain restaurants. Before we left they gave us a little present of cookies which were very delicious. Overall thoughts were extremely helpful, excellent for the location, safety and high level of excellence and cleanliness. If I came to Cape Town again I would definitely stay at An African Ville with no hesitation. Jimmy, Louis and all the staff made our stay memorable – Thank you and keep up the excellent work…

We stayed at an African Villa with our two teenage children on a visit from Sydney in June 2006. After several days of expensive hotels and lodges, this establishment was refreshing - low key, great service, space to move around, and nice decor. It's well-located, near a great coffee shop and several good retaurants. We would not hestitate to go back.

We spent 3 weeks in South Africa at 6 locations and An African Villa was the best of all, even those charging more. The staff are genuinely warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were top class and the facilities and ambience were excellent. As three connected, renovated and very artfully redecorated two story terrace houses with lovely courtyard it worked exceptionally well with a good location, great plunge pool, great local eating choices, charming host and lovely staff. Attention to detail in all respects was faultless but in a natural and charming manner, be it helpful advice, relaxed conversation or fulfillment of a special request.
Definitely top value and a particularly welcoming, pleasant and restful place to stay in Cape Town.

Hello, thanks for your interest in An African Villa. Much as we love little ones, we are not able to accept children under 12 years as guests. The building is unsuited and other guests are too inconvenienced by the disruption which they often cause. So sorry! Jimmy

We have very good restaurants within an 6 - 8 minute walk on Kloof Street. It is safe to walk to the restaurants, however we recommend that guests come home after their meal with a taxi as they are inexpensive. Best regards Cindy

Hi Claudia Laundry service is offered Monday to Friday Deliver before 10h00am and return same day at 18h30. Cost is calculated by weight and not per item, but the minimum charge is R115, so best is, fill the bag with more items and not just 1 or 2 pieces as the laundry washes each customer's laundry in their own tub (not mixed with other clients) and it takes the same amount of water, same amount of electricity, some amount of detergent to wash 2-3 items as it would be for a load of 10-12 items. Obviously, the more items you hand in, the heavier the bag, the higher the price. Hope this helps with your wardrobe planning. Best regards Louis
