Karen, the host, ensured that my stay was comfortable and memorable. She was very hospitable and is the only reason I would go back to Hillcrest Manor.

The unfortunate part off my stay was the fact that they were not aware of the airport shuttle services inclusive in the fee for stay. I had to pay for my own airport shuttle service on departure and the owner was extremely rude and disrespectful to me telephonically. The owner seemed unaware of the arrangement that she has made with Booking.com to include airport shuttle services if more than R3000 had been spent on accommodation.

Because of the owner's poor customer relations I cannot give more stars and will not be returning to Hillcrest Manor.

I stayed here for a week with a friend and we can highly recommend this place! We really felt well looked after both by Karen and Gerda and they made our stay very nice! It felt like a proper home! The house is clean with amazing views of Table Mountain. We would have liked to use the pool, but it seems as if it had not been cleaned for a while as the covers were on all the time.
Besides that, everything was great and the location is super!
I would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyed my stay. Very nicely located @ Tamboerskloof, close to a small restaurant. Day to day management is done by Karen, an extremely friendly lady eager to do good. The house itself is in a nice condition but beginning to show signs of older age.

We stayed at Hillcrest Manor for the first 7 nights of our stay in Cape Town- and what a fantastic time we had! Tamboerskloof is an ideal base for staying in the city, a very short drive away from all the main attractions; table mountain, the waterfront, beaches such as Camps bay and Clifton etc. We stayed in one of the front bedrooms upstairs at Hillcrest and had wonderful views over the city and table mountain, which was special in daylight as well as lit up at night. We loved having access to the balcony area at the front of the house to sit out with a glass of wine in the evenings and enjoy the view!
Gerda was a fantastic host, always so friendly and helpful eg. When we forgot to bring our beach towels she was more than happy to lend us some! She gave us some great advice for exploring the area too! Her breakfasts were delicious and always stocked us up so well; we rarely had to buy lunch!
There were so many options for dinner nearby; some days we made the short drive to the waterfront and other days we walked a few paces to the ever-popular deli at the end of the road to get a (very reasonably priced) homemade pizza or another of their specials.
Our room was stunning; lovely high ceilings, big windows and decor that was sympathetic to the beautiful colonial style of the house, yet fresh and airy, with crisp white bedsheets and towels. We could not have felt more comfortable.
Finally, we felt ever so safe here; the area was very secure and the house itself had many security measures just in case as well. We were more than happy to leave our car parked on the quiet street and never had any problems. Having a car was very useful though, as we didn't have to worry about where and when we could or couldn't be walking around when we ventured outside the immediate area (not that we felt threatened or unsafe at any point during our time in Cape Town at all!)
So, thank you Gerda for a wonderful stay! A once in a lifetime trip! (But we would love to come back one day!)

Beautiful old house on a hill with spectacular views of the city and Table Mountain. Nice clean room and very good breakfast. The pool was not ready for swimming yet but they started cleaning it while we were there. An easy 45 min. downhill walk to the Waterfront or city center but without the trafic noise

From Hillcrest Manor Guesthouse balcony you have an excellent view over Cape Town and to the Table Mountain. Alone this makes it worth to stay there. Sitting on the balcony and trinking a good South African red wine is a beatiful memory.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hillcrest Manor. It is within walking distance of lots of interesting places to see and do, plus plenty of great restaurants. It is very secure, clean, and comfortable, with decent internet and a very good breakfast. The view, as others have commented, is spectacular. The house itself is very nice indeed with some lovely architectural touches. Gerda is kind and helpful, willing to help at the drop of a hat. I really recommend it.

The Hillcrest Manor has become our favourite accommodation in Cape Town! We spent an entire week there in January. Located in the beautiful neighbourhood of Tamboerskloof near the city centre, it is a charming and well kept victorian house with clean, spacious rooms, a beautiful garden and views from the balcony, the garden terrace and some of the rooms that are simply breathtaking! In addition to that, Gerda, the owner, is a very nice and knowledgeable hostess.

We arrived at the airport with no accommodation booked and were referred to Hillcrest Manor. We could not have been more pleased. Our simply furnished room at the front of the house looked straight towards Table Mountain. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was fine, we had tea and coffee facilities and a carafe we could refill from the cold water machine in the dining room. There was limitless breakfast and lots of helpful suggestions from the hostess about what to see and do in Cape Town and beyond, although a beautiful veranda on the bedroom floor plus a small pool and sunbathing area were rival draws.

The guest house is within easy strolling distance of the centre of town, the Company Garden, Bo Kaap etc. And best of all it is easy to find - just follow the signs to the cable car and turn off at Tamberskloof!

We enjoyed our first stay so much we returned at the end of our holiday when we had a back room which amazingly still had a view of the mountain.
