Our stay at Hollow on the Square was pleasant. The staff was quite polite, the food was delicious and it is located at a very accessible area in central Cape Town. Just two things that could definitely be better are:

1. Bathrooms can be much cleaner and tidier
2. The laundry was too expensive, items listed on the laundry price list was too expensive

Great base to explore Cape Town..comfortable and clean rooms, great helpful staff, good breakfast (cooked items). The only thing I would want to point out is that the cheese and cold cuts display kept at breakfast next to the fruits had some "fruit flies"/insects in it, perhaps they should do something about it!

We spent two nights here and overall I would recommend it!

Wi-Fi tripped sometime however I don't know may be about bad weather or Machanic problem. Place is look neatly and has good people. They need to introduce more extra African foods in the restaurant. I love about coffee they have in their rooms

Although it is theoretical a convenient location close to many of the city's attractions, it is a bad/dodgy area with a lot of noise and beggars and street sleepers less from 20 meters from the front entrance. Limited parking with only 8 places reserved for the hotel's guests - rest open for public. Sticky, dirty gum from the trees dripped onto my vehicle messing up the windscreen, paint, and even causing sticky doors difficult to open afterwards. The entrance from the parking into the hotel's backdor is through/past a noisy kitchen area - not very professional. No vehicle access to the front entrance. At night this is not nice at all.
I slept on the 4th floor (top) and the people and aircon noise from the surrounding buildings forced me to close all my windows. The views from the rooms are straight into the buildings next door.
I asked reception about the TV channels to watch the live sport. The receptionist did not know. She called the maintenance man who also did not know. He strated fiddling with the WiFi on the TV in the sitting room. Eventually I found the appropriate channels on my romm's TV although the image quality was not good.
The stairs to the top floors goes past kitchen cabinets and were not very clean. Empty beer bottles were left on the stairs.
On the plus side: the rooms aref ine with quality linen, furniture and fittings. The best was the Nespresso coffee machine with enough capsules and milk for one person.

My first time in Cape Town! Really my choice of the hotel is right! Nice location and the most beautiful hotel staff! The reception staff greet you with a wide smile and always helpful. Mr. Charles, Mr. Rashid, and so does Mrs. Louisiana. Of course, I don’t forget Mr. Frenk. The hotel is very close to the cticc with steps! Close to the waterfront as well.

The hotel is nice and clean. I would like to give it 4 stars but there are a few things that let me down.
I made the reservation through booking.com which advertised free wifi which was an absolute must for us - but it's only 500mb per day.
Secondly, we were sent to a room when we arrived which was already occupied, then the key we got didn't work in the door, this took about 15-20 minutes standing in a hot lobby before it got sorted.
Then, when I was leaving I tried to call reception (it was 3am but they state that they have 24 hour reception) to check that there was someone there (as I had to walk outside to get to the main building alone in the middle of the night) and I continuously rang for 30 minutes and got no answer. It made me feel very vulnerable heading out in the square in the middle of the night alone and not knowing if there would be someone there when I got there. There was someone there in the end but he wasn't behind the desk therefore couldn't hear phone. The staff are lovely and helpful but these shortfalls ruined it a bit.

Response from Musicexplore, General Manager at Hollow On The Square Cape Town City Hotel
Responded 28 Jan 2016
Dear Value Guest thank you for the extremely constructive feedback! We are pleased that you found the hotel nice and clean and the staff helpful. Regarding not being able to reach the reception staff telephonically at 3am, we view this in an extremely serious light. Please could you possibly email me details of the date and we will take the necessary disciplinary action (gm@hollowonthesquare.co.za). We hope to see you back again soon! Kind regards Paul and the Team.

Every year I attend the WTM Africa and stay at the Hollow On the Square. This year I was in the Green Annex again and once again my stay was excellent. The staff is friendly, the breakfast great and the room always well looked after.
One thing I missed, was that the receptionist did not advise me re the water restrictions and request me to save water (I come from Namibia, so I automatically do it anyway), but I think in light of the current drought, this is so important!
Also, it says in the bathroom to leave the towels hanging, should you wish to use them again. I do this of course, but noticed in the evening that my towels had been changed anyway! So the hotel also needs to educate their staff in water saving measures!
All in al I had a super stay again, and this will probably remain my first choice when attending events at the CTICC.

I stayed this hotel for 6 nights while I was been tourist in centre of Cape Town. The price for this hotel is very reasonable, location is very good, close to centre, quite safe place, easy to go to Long street for 5 minutes, taking a walk to Water front took 15-20 minutes from hotel.A room is very reasonably big and i got upgrade for my room.My first room was too cold and I could move to another room after I complained the room is too cold.Laundry service is very good, you can get it back by 18:00 if you ask at 08:00 in the morning. The hotel restaurant was very good, you can enjoy very basic food when you don’t want to go out.Sometimes Internet connection been very poor but it is not all the time.i will recommend this hotel if you want to make reasonable budget trip.

We were a group of six. I had guests from Germany from my main supplier and I was embarrassed by the pathetic WiFi system the hotel uses. In retrospect, I read a lot of complaints about the WiFi which I am sorry I did not pick up about before the time as I would have certainly made another plan.

My guests were running around every day for new codes. The reception staff were eventually resorting to instructing them to switch off their Bluetooth and Data to make it work (which of course doesn’t help by the way). What a load of horse-crock!

I suggest management gets the entire WiFi setup replaced with something that actually works.

Rooms are refurbished, modern and stylish. Breakfasts were typical average business hotel buffet and served the purpose.

Staff are friendly, but I pity them having to deal with complaints about the bad equipment.

Try the get a room on the top two floors. It can be rather noisy outside at night.
