I stayed for 8 nights while visiting family who live in the Sea Point area. It’s a great location and I was able to walk almost everywhere I needed to go if it was within Sea Point. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast is very expensive and in my opinion not worth it. There are plenty of walkable stores and places where you can eat for much cheaper. The rooms are decent size even though I found the bathroom quite small. The beds are incredibly comfortable! Stay on a higher floor so that you don’t have all the noise from the street and the restaurant that is attached. (From my room I could hear each time they sang the Happy Birthday song to a customer!)

We spent 10 days at the hotel on a B and B basis. The room was well equipped and ok. The very best feature was the wonderfully powerful shower; an absolute belter and probably the best hotel shower we’ve ever had. The bed was good, the little balcony pretty pointless and I wish that there had been 2 chairs rather than 1.
We slept well.
Oh I should also add that the rooftop sun bed area and small pool were a good feature and one which we quite enjoyed.
It’s very close to the sea, to walks along the coast and to the local amenities.
The breakfast was not great. There was choice but the pastries and breads were limited and all but stale, the coffee pretty awful and the cooked items ok. With so many alternatives places to have breakfast locally we’d have been better off eating elsewhere...........cheaper and better quality.

Dear thehun01 We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your room, the shower and our comfy beds and that you slept well. Our pool area on the 4th floor is a lovely space to unwind and enjoy the fresh air and views of the ocean. We are sorry to hear that you found our breakfast a disappointment and will bring your concerns to the attention of our Food and Beverage Manager so he can address the issue of breads and pastries being stale and ensure a better cup of coffee being served. Thank you for your valuable feedback and we do hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards

Convenient ocean side location at Sea Point, rooms do have a balcony, many restaurants and shop around, u can walk around the promenade. Housekeeping was i bit inconsistent as there were sometimes towels missing, no water replaced or similar small hick hips. Breakfast was quite nice, some varieties from day to day at the hot items selection. Thanks, Axel

Sadly, our stay 1 week was not good. This hotel is falling apart. The rooms need MUCH improvement. No matter which room you pick on the south side (parking lot view!), they ALL need new windows (we were a group of 12!). How is it that being in Cape Town where it's always windy, the hotel has not realized the need for good windows - I do not understand. They rattled at night and leaked water when raining. Bathrooms are just sad and small, no toilet paper holder, so you literally have to do a 180 degree turn and reach up for TP. Not ONE wall in the room had any sort of art, all 4 plain white(ish) walls. TV was the size of an IPAD and only had 7 Chanels (local), why... I don't know. Breakfast was OK, nothing too crazy, but most of the time you had to chase people down for them to make an omelet, or finish cooking the bacon as it was almost raw! How did you get endorsed by Marriott is beyond my (our) comprehension!

We are truly sorry to hear about your experience. Your feedback concerning the windows, especially given the wind conditions in Cape Town, is genuinely appreciated. We acknowledge the importance of this and are actively reviewing plans to make necessary improvements. Our rooms on the other side of the building have already been fitted with new sound-reducing doors to the balcony. Our commitment to quality remains steadfast, and we're grateful for your insights which help us improve. We hope for an opportunity to welcome you back in the future. The Sea Point Team

First off, the location is amazing. Only one block away from the beach and promenade, plus there are several excellent restaurants nearby. This is in Sea Point, which is tucked away a bit and not in the CBD or all usual tourist spots, but they’re only a 10–15-minute drive away, and uber is very cheap. You can even get to Green Point and the stadiums via the Promenade if you’re up for a long but flat walk.

Our room was clean and comfortable. The only downside would be that we were on the first floor and several of the AC units were right outside our windows, so we couldn’t sleep with the windows open. But that is going to happen at every hotel.

The service was exceptional. Zizwe at the front desk was warm and welcoming, and he made sure our every need was taken care of immediately.

I only wished there was a shelf or something by the bathroom sink, but we were in an accessible room, so that could just have been a thing about our room only.

Room service is coordinated through the steakhouse next door, and while the food was good, I would skip ordering it to the room. Better to just go downstairs.

Asked the hotel to do an emergency phone to my bank so I could block the my credit card which had been clonned.

I was charged £73 for short phone call to the U.K.

The phones in the room weren’t operational and the manager who patched the call came up with that total.

This is unbelievable lack of guest support and an extortion. Taking advantage of a traveller in distress.

I’ve opened a case with South African a tourism board for extortion of money.

Dear brunoft4168RE Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding your experience at Protea Hotel Sea Point, and how your credit card crisis was handled by our Front Desk Manager on Duty. We sincerely apologise for the telephone that was not operational and if there was a lack of empathy and the situation was not handled appropriately. We have a tag in the room attached to the telephone cord that displays the charges per minute for all calls dialed to local, international and mobile numbers, that way guests can determine the estimate cost of calls. The system does record the time spent on the call and will charge accordingly onto the room account. We apologise for any misunderstanding, by no means do we wish to take advantage of anyone in distress. Kind regards

This hotel is located in a great location to relax after a busy touring day. It is safe to walk around near here and enough restaurants nearby. We enjoyed being near the water and taking a walk in the evening . The hotel is very clean and the personnel very helpful and nice. We spent 5 day’s here and then spent 5 days closer to the CBD and VA but wished we had stayed here our entire stay in Cape Town.

Lovely location, very close to the waterfront and restaurants. Amazing friendly staff( massive thanks to Alex, Michaela, Mti, Ashoora, Crystal and Carlene amongst others - sorry didn’t catch all the names). Any issues with the room were addressed in the most professional manner - this was very much appreciated. The hotel itself is very functional, it has everything you may need ( air con, safe , wifi , tea/ coffee maker, fridge). The only area of improvement I can recommend is to change the balcony windows/doors to something more modern with robust sound insulation and maybe some signs in corridors to remind guests about quiet hours - sadly some chose to speak at full volume at 6 am around the lift. Common sense is not a given feature these days so good to remind guests that others may be sleeping. Bathrooms are on a more compact side but have everything you need and rain shower is lovely too. Thank you for a great experience

The location of the hotel is perfect, so close to the ocean, walking distance to lots of things and tour pick up spots but the hotel rooms were VERY SMALL. The day staff were alright but the night staff were really unhelpful. We arrived at night and couldn't even recommend a place for us to go get some food for a protea hotel that was sad. The breakfast was alright. Our blinds stopped had an issue and they couldn't fix it, trying to get help with our bags was a MISSION.

This was my first time in South Africa from UK so I was apprehensive. Overall this hotel was an excellent choice. I asked for a quiet upper floor room. I was allocated a first floor room as no upper floor rooms were available and the air system proved rather noisy. I complained about this to reception and very quickly I was offered another first floor room with which I was very happy. I could still hear the generators but I slept well.

I had breakfast each day in the hotel and that was very good with a good choice.

One thing that does not seem to be widely stated is that some hotels in Cape Town have load shedding most days with perhaps four hours without electricity. I believe this hotel has a generator and there were no problems with electricity which was a considerable advantage.

The location near a busy shopping street and also just up from the Promenade is ideal. I enjoy walking and walked both to the Cape Town Waterfront with a huge shopping centre and to the Lion's Head. It is clear that one needs to be cautious about safety, particularly at night, but I never felt in any danger. It is easy to get on the Hop on and off bus to see Cape Town and its surrounds including Table Mountain. Uber taxis are also great to get anywhere quickly and safely.

Reception, security and cleaning were excellent.

If I return to Cape Town I would stay here again.
