History and modern luxury merge to create ageless beauty at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel, which was built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse. This iconic establishment was named after Queen Victoria and her son, Prince Alfred who played an intrinsic role in the establishment of the Breakwater Basin, now the V&A Waterfront. The hotel is located in the very heart of this internationally acclaimed destination and is a sophisticated retreat amid the buzz. It offers some of the most enviable views of Cape Town Harbour, Table Mountain and the slick city that stretches out at the foot of this Natural Wonder. Timeless elegance and personalised luxury are found at the award-winning Victoria & Alfred Hotel.

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel is celebrated for its inviting atmosphere, with many guests commending the stylish decor and the hotel's vibrant locale. Nestled in the V&A Waterfront, its prime location offers guests easy access to nearby attractions, with an array of amenities and diverse breakfast choices, although access to some services may be limited. While the hotel's service is generally applauded for its warmth and efficiency, a few guests have encountered slower responses. The rooms are spacious and offer scenic views, yet some suggest they could benefit from a decor refresh. Cleanliness is a standout, with the hotel consistently maintaining a spotless environment. In terms of value, the consensus among guests is that the hotel offers a good balance of quality and cost, despite occasional additional charges.

We stayed in the less expensive rooms without the mountain view, deciding to forego a view for an extra night of travel. The rooms were adequate, not huge but spacious enough for two of us, with a comfy chair, desk, tv with Neftlix, separate toilet, bath and shower, and windows that open to a view of the harbor with music wafting in day and night. The buffet breakfast was simply awesome, literally the best breakfast I have ever seen anywhere, and that includes lavish spreads in Thailand and other exotic places. We did not eat at the restaurant but appreciated live music in the lobby and the excellent level of service from the staff. Location could not be beat. The only drawback was having to walk across the street and uphill to the pool, which is located at their other property. We felt very safe and secure, the staff was excellent, and I would definitely come back. If you are starting a safari adventure here, be sure to buy anything you might want in this area because day-to-day items get harder to come by the further you get from the city and almost impossible once you get into the bush.

We stayed for just one night and were blown away by the wonderful friendly and warm service from all the staff.

The hotel is in a wonderful location, we were very pleasantly surprised that the rooms were wonderful and quiet despite the busy atmosphere below.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable with crisp linen and fluffy towels. The furnishings do look outdated, but are well looked after.

We were disappointed not to receive the standard turn down service.

Great hotel, we would return.

This hotel suited us perfectly, the bedrooms were really comfortable (loft room) and the staff were so helpful. The location is in the heart of the action, easy to reach to city centre, within the vibrant waterfront area and close to the excellent city sightseeing tour terminal. The service in the restaurant at breakfast was a bit disorganised but the food is mainly on the buffet and so this didn't have a big affect on our stay. Need to understand where the Ubers are allowed to stop around the waterfront, but there are normal taxis outside the hotel. Overall this was a great hotel for our week visiting Cape Town and region, loved the city and region and we will be back one day and when we do we will return to the Victoria and Alfred Hotel without hesitation.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write a positive review after your recent stay with us in one of recent totally refurbished Loft rooms! Your comment about the breakfast service being a bit disorganised has been flagged for attention by Ginja management to avoid reoccurrence in our busy "Best in the City" breakfast venue. Uber pick up and drop off points for the V&A Hotel are a few meters away at The V&A Food Market as Uber vehicle are not permitted by the authorities to enter the circle in front of our Porte Couchere, hence we also have a taxi ranking at the Porte Couchere. We look forward to welcoming you back to Cape Town in the not too distant future when it will be our absolute pleasure to welcome you back to the V&A Hotel!

We stayed 3 nights at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel and rate is very highly, the staff from reception to housekeeping were extremely friendly welcoming and most helpful.

We had views of the harbour and Table Mountain the rooms are large and very comfortable we stayed in winter and the days can get chilly however the rooms and hotel were always at a comfortable temp.

We will be back.

We have been returning to the V&A hotel for the past 10 years or so and are still big fans. The location is great, right in the heart of the Waterfront, and the views from the mountain-facing rooms are just spectacular.

The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and great blackout curtains ensure a good night's sleep.

Breakfast has much improved over the past years, and the hot offering as well as the buffet has everything you might want. And of course the location sitting right at the water's edge with a view up to the mountain is just perfect.

We appreciated the hotel's call-out service for a PCR test in your room on the day before our departure. This was very smooth and easy and the results were received well within the stated 24 hours.

Luci deserves a special mention for her continued wonderful personal service. Thank you for another great stay and we hope to see you again very soon!

We arrived in Cape Town for a 4 night stay at the end of a fabulous holiday in South Africa. Things started well with a friendly greeting from staff and assistance with our luggage and valet parking of our car. First impressions of the hotel were good. The waterfront location we wanted, views of Table Mountain from the restaurant and a cool, vibrant atmosphere which immediately appealed to our teenage children. Things went downhill as we tried to check in only to be told that our rooms had been cancelled. The booking (which had been made and paid for in full several months in advance) was found on the system and the hotel had no explanation for the error other than to say that our rooms had gone. The hotel was busy and we were told there were no other rooms available for us.

The staff then offered us rooms at their sister hotel, The Queen Victoria. We had little option other than to accept this given it was 6pm and we were in a city we had never visited before with 3 children. It then took an hour to actually secure the new rooms. Initially we were told they would be on different floors which was not acceptable given we were travelling with our children (the youngest being 10) and had booked adjacent rooms.

Eventually we were allocated rooms opposite each other but could not gain access to these until we returned from dinner later that evening. We missed out on the sunset drinks we had planned at the Silo Hotel roof terrace due to all the messing around. We were unable to freshen up/get changed for dinner as we had no room. The manager at the Queen Victoria Hotel was not particularly sympathetic.

The whole experience was really disappointing and a stark contrast to the service levels we had experienced at all of the other hotels we had stayed at during our trip. The hotel seemed to think they were doing is a favour by placinus in the Queen Victoria Hotel which has a higher rating. However, it is not directly on the water front, it is not a hotel for children and we were saddened that our rooms did not have the Mountain View that we had booked and paid extra for in the V & A hotel. To be fair, one of the rooms had a partial view if you stood right in the corner of the room and looked to the side of the window. It was a real shame.

I would have no confidence booking this hotel again and I cannot give a positive opinion of the service levels given how this error was dealt with.

We booked for a winter warmer special to include breakfast and a massage at a local spa.
Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly and efficient staff. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded in our room choice, and had a fantastic room overlooking the harbor and table mountain. It was stunning, impeccably clean and neat.
The doorman was so welcoming, they know how to make you feel special here.
The breakfast was from a menu and was excellent.. we couldn't fault anything here.
If you want to be in the center of the Waterfront and be spoil t..the V & A Hotel tops the bill.
Hopefully we can get back again soon.

The Capetown waterfront area is very expensive but right in the middle of all the action. If you want to watch seals palying in the harbour out of your bedroom window or take a 5 minute walk to a ferris wheel out the back door of the hotel, this is the place to stay. The restaurant was excellent and provides about a dozen sidewalk tables fronting the water. The room was very large and well appointed with an attached sitting area. The bed was comfortable.
There is a doorman at the elevator all the time and it makes you feel very safe. Step out the front door and you are right in the middle of everything you want to see and do at the waterfront. All the best sights and bars/ restaurants are within a 5-10 minute walk. An upscale mall adjoins the hotel. Two other malls are within a 5-10 minute walk.

The staff are great, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately if you stay in this hotel you are unlikely to get good sleep at any point (day or night) due to the location being on the doorstep of the waterfront where people are constantly playing live music. It was disturbing and I did not get a single good nights sleep. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to review the V&A Hotel and for your feedback in terms of the noisy environment you find the hotel to be located in the Waterfront - a working harbour and one South Africa's most visited tourist destinations. We opened our doors in December 1990 and over the past 30 years have literally had hundreds of thousands of satisfied guests staying with us and returning over and over again and as part of our continuous upgrade programmes over the years we replaced all of the hotel’s windows with new frames and double glazing just over 2 years ago. Please do come back on your next visit to Cape Town so that we can prove to you that this unusual and isolated incident is not the norm. Please be safe, have a peaceful Festive period and a more positive start to 2021.

I stayed in this hotel during a short visit to Cape Town from 18 - 22 September 2021. Their service was top class, Covid protocols could not be faulted and the location could not be better - right inside the heart of the V & A Waterfront. My meals in their Ginja Restaurant (with a view of Table Mountain that is to die for!!) was what could be expected from a restaurant getting such excellent reviews in foodie magazines. I stayed in a loft room that was comfortable and cosy and for the first time during my visits to Cape Town through the years it did not even bother me that I did not have a view of Table Mountain from my hotel room. The friendly and efficient staff contributed to making my stay a pleasant experience and they've certainly won me over to stay there again in future.
