Detailed Reviews
Set in a central location with a garden that enchants guests with its charming ambiance, the Mount Nelson is spectacularly luxurious delivering a magical atmosphere reflected in a blend of opulence and high quality. We cannot praise the staff and management any higher for being professional and attentive or the amenities on offer including many dining options, bars, activities and sumptuous spa contributing to our exceptional stay. The hotel's cleanliness is impeccable and rooms are beautifully appointed with many surprises delivered throughout the stay which I will not spoil for the benefit of your experience.
It's the team's genuine care, putting their heart and soul in their service that differentiates the 'Nellie' from any other hotel that makes it a truly special place that I like to call home.
Truth be told, there is no place in the world like the 'Nellie; where one can hike Table Mountain or go to one of Cape Town's beautiful beaches in the morning and be back at the hotel to enjoy a magnificent breakfast and then spend the day relaxing by the pool enjoying time with your family.
Thank you Tiago for all that you have done to make this property truly exceptional. Your personality radiates throughout the hotel and your sincerity, passion and kindness is contagious.
I would llke to thank all the team but I would like to say thank you to Klaus, Jarryd, Chef Luke (You Rock!) and all the team. Thank you

I wasn't sure if the value would be worth the price because we had so many plans to be outside the hotel- but we decided to give one day to downtime and were blown away by the awesome workout room, great pool, billiard room and food! The breakfast buffett is incredible. I can't think of what else they could add and the setting is classic and beatiful. Our beds and rooms were connected and very clean. They love giving the extras- like pillow spray, a glasses cleaner, a plant in our room, etc! Great attention to details! Would definitely return and stay there.

This hotel is a complete classic. It is a piece of colonial, maritime history - but it is beautifully maintained and the bedrooms are very individual and solidly built. No noise from anywhere and the most sumptuous huge beds and pillows. It is a complete oasis in the middle of bustling Cape Town. But the thing that keeps us coming back, is the incredible team there. Uniformly warm, welcoming and kind. This is the spirit of the place and I can’t wait to return

We visited the Mount Nelson in 2015 for Afternoon Tea during our honeymoon and were keen to return and enjoy the afternoon tea again.... it was one of the best afternoon tea experiences we have ever had due to both the quality and quantity of the food and teas provided and the immaculate service and we have often recommended it to friends and family visiting Cape Town.
While the food quality continues to be good, the rest of the experience was a little disappointing. We were shown to our table in the conservatory area for the late afternoon sitting. Our waiter gave us a glass of Sparkling Wine with the menus and left us to choose a tea while collecting the 1st course - a selection of 3 finger sandwiches and 3 pastries. This was follwed by a single scone each with a selection of incredibly sweet jam, what tasted like canned squirty cream and very dry shredded cheese. And then the final course of 5 beautifully presented small cakes.
Unfortunately there were clearly too many customers for the current staff levels as we were constantly left waiting either with either no tea or no food (a 40 minute wait for a scone seems unecessary, especially when it wasnt even warm when served!). The tea sommelier walked past us briefly to introduce himself but then we didnt see him again for the duration of our stay. Even trying to flag down a waiter for a second pot of tea took longer than expected and we weren't even offered a clean teacup despite selecting different teas.
A very disappointing experience compared to our last visit which then became even worse when our waiter felt the need to return to our table 3 times to explain we hadn't given him a tip when paying. We definitely wont be returning to the Mount Nelson again or recommending this to anyone visiting.

Dear 734jdxb Thank you kindly for sharing your experience and I am sorry that we were clearly not as good for you as during your visit in 2015. As most of our last visits feedback has been rather positive, allow me to apologise in advance that we felt short clearly to your and our expectations. Would you be able to share with me your contact details so we could reach out to gather more intelligence on how we can do this differently? Our stay was memorable, such a warm welcome, all staff were so friendly, polite and helpful.
In the Oasis Room for breakfast the cold buffet, fruits, breads, juices were just perfect, probably the best we have ever seen and eaten, unfortunately the downside was the 'hot breakfast' selection which was invariably just warm throughout our stay of 10 days. This fact was brought to the attention of the Manager of Food and Beverage, his words and action made it apparent he had no experience whatsoever behind the kitchen door. He suggested stirring the scrambled eggs to make them hotter, of course, this cannot work without more heat being applied. After 3 days of bringing this to his attention, chafing dishes appeared, unfortunately this was not the solution as they did not keep it very warm and things which should have been served crisp and dry (hash browns) were soggy and still cold.
Housekeeping was superb, everyday our room looked as though it had been spring cleaned it was always spotless, all staff worked so very diligently in ensuring everywhere was cleaned to the highest standard throughout the hotel, they were a credit to the Nellie.
We enjoyed our holiday, were able to totally relax and head home refreshed.

It's always a pleasure staying here, and the improvements go from strength to strength. The new head chef, Luke, has enhanced the breakfast buffet and introduced new 28 day aged burgers. It was one of the best I've ever tasted.
Our room as always was spotless and the housemaid was very attentive and kept it spotless throughout our stay. This is a hotel to keep returning to.

Mount Nelson, the Nellie, where can one start explaining an experience at such a beautiful property. We had such a warm welcome by Mbuso, one of the doormen and Gareth, the Guest Experience Manager who met us at our car and showed us through to the lobby and assisted with our luggage.
Upon our arrival at the Lobby, we were warmly met by Jacques, the Director of Guest Experience and his entire Front of House team. We had an amazing check in by Bathibile whilst having the team singing happy birthday for my birthday celebration weekend and they were all lead by Busi, one of the Guest Experience Managers. We were then taken to our beautiful room by Alex. After settling in, we were taken on a culinary journey at the Veranda Restaurant whilst being served by Nqobile who personalised our dinner to our requirements.
Upon our return to our room, we were met by Amanda from the lovely Housekeeping Team who gave a special turndown and personalised gift. Before we headed to bed, we enjoyed an Espresso Martini which was setup by the In- Room dining team. We were lucky enough to meet one of the ladies, Zanele who did the setup.
On the morning of our departure, we headed to the Oasis Restaurant for breakfast and was met by Nandipha who gave us a brief orientation of the offerings. We were also met by the Executive Chef, Luke whilst admiring the overwhelming breakfast options. Our waiter, Nasie made every effort to ensure we were comfortable and gave some amazing advice for tours and activities for the day.
Overall our experience was nothing but memorable and all our interactions with this wonderful team was amazing.
Looking forward to returning to try the famous Afternoon Tea!

This was our second stay at our happy place in Cape Town.
The hotel is an oasis of tranquility which is just wonderful to end your South African adventure.
Our room (638) in the Green Park building was delightful with views over Table Mountain & Lions Head. Very comfortable bed & pillows like a cloud. Everything was pristine & Osma did a great job every day of replenishing all we needed. If I had one niggle it is the coffee station was cramped & you had to juggle things around to make space. That’s it!
Breakfast was divine & we loved sitting on the terrace grazing & savouring all the delicious offerings. I had just about everything on the menu over the course of our 4 days and no complaints at all. I loved the health shots & mimosa every day. Service was attentive & in particular Chris & Wiseman who we remembered from last year, Lucien, Bandla & Emily were all friendly & superb in their roles.
We lounged at the pool which has had some upgrades with the new gazebos & were very pleasantly surprised to be served ice tea, smoothies & ice cream. This too was new since our stay last year. Pool service was great & Bonga was always buzzing around making sure we were happy. All the pool staff were great but I didn’t get their names so sorry & thank you!
We had dinner at The Veranda & it was very good. We had a slight complaint with my husbands burger not being cooked through as he asked but it was very quickly rectified & not charged for & a dessert offered too. Most appreciated & not expected. We were happy to pay as it was resolved but Taariq insisted. Andiswa was our server & was very attentive & prompt.
Lastly we had a wonderful sidecar trip to Chapmans Peak organised by the amazing Kimberley at concierge. It was spectacular & i’d urge anyone thinking about this to book it. The icing on the cake was the pink Nellie sidecar. A truly wonderful trip so thank you Kimberley.
Nellie, you are a dream to stay with & we hope to return again & again.
Lastly, as a cat lover it’s always delightful to see Queen Nellie patrolling her home ❤️

Hotel is beyond beautiful as is the customer service. If it was only me I would not say a word however several people at breakfast were discussing many from a tour who had gotten sick, my collegaue and I both got sick, other collegaues a few weeks earlier got sick. I have been to CapeTown five times in the last year all different hotels and never gotten sick nor heard of others getting sick. Aleays have beem cautious of dairy, anything raw, only bottled water, etc. I can’t help but think it has something to do with the hotel. Its a lovely hotel but if traveling you definitely don’t want to get sick. Especially still carrying it a month later. Just beaware before you and if yoh have a week immune system I highly suuggest looking at other options.

As repeat guests we were welcomed back like family with big hugs from Busi, Adam Herbert and Klaus the new manager. Immediately we were made to feel at home enquiring how our flight had gone whilst being offered rose scented cool towels and a drink of choice. The charm and beauty of the hotel is evident from the moment you enter the grand reception area whilst being greeted by the most courteous, polite yet warm and friendly staff.
The “Nellie” is an oasis of calm and beauty with manicured gardens, inviting pool area and several dining options delivering impeccable customer service within a very busy city. With so much on offer you can quite easily while away your days in the most beautiful relaxing surroundings.
It is evident that a lot of hard work and planning goes on behind the scenes to continually deliver such service of excellence and comfort to their guests. Well done and thank you to all the “Team” for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable , we hope to see you all next year.
