A truly great place to stay! Wonderful friendly staff willing and eager to help and treat you like part of the family. Good hot showers, clean and neat kitchen. Close to the waterfront and amenities in the city center and bars and nightclubs in long street. I enjoyed the view from the balcony and I had an all round wonderful experience!!! Thanks to the two oceans team keep up the excellent work!!

We were a group of 7 girls who booked a 8 person dorm for a few nights. We ended up in a 12 persons mixed dorm room. That was okay, but when we Came home the last night, we discovered someone had went through our stuff. They had even broken one of the bags, by cutting away the zipper which was locked with a padlock. When we told the staff, they were more concerned about telling us their residents didn’t do it, because they had been here for a long time and they trusted them. They also told us that they could not refund us when we said we didn’t want to stay because of safety issues, and if we said these things because we wanted to go somewhere nicer we should just say so.

The backpacker is very simple, in June they were updating the place, so it's on the right path. There is no breakfast but the kitchen is very nice and was always very clean. Same thing for the rooms, everyday they cleaned it. It's very well situated, you could walk easily to the Water Front as to any Bar/Club at Long St. I also walked to Lions Head and Table Mountain from there, it's not that close, but if you are into walking... It's doable! The best part of the backpackers is the staff, they are extremely friendly, other travelers and I went parting with them couple times.

The building is currently getting renovated and so certain rooms are inaccessible. On the website where I booked, they advertise 'airport transfers' and a 'tours/travel desk' - this is no longer offered by the new management. One of the staff did help me arrange some travel around South Africa and Cape Town, but I felt like management frowned on him for it! In general, the staff is not very friendly and helpful. Frequently there was no staff to be found. Anywhere is extremely helpful and professional. He always greeted everyone with a big friendly smile and hello whereas the other staff looked angry and unapproachable. On my last day, there was a new staff member who was also friendlier but a bit timid. The location is great - restaurants, markets, tour organisers all within a few minutes walk, but the night crowd makes it unpleasant for going out - many beggars, prostitutes and pickpockets along the streets after dark. The property has a lot of potential and the renovations should be a great improvement. However, the management and staff would benefit from some hospitality and service training.

I’ll recommend this place for all the people! You can sit at the balcony, right in the middle of Cape Town! There’ll be music all the time and Carol is going to entertain you with jokes, conversations or dance moves. He is definitely the most brilliant receptionist/owner - what ever! Enjoy your stay, go and get a beer with carol. You're going to have the best time of your life, for sure! :) thank you so much for the time we spent with you, the german boys!
