The Grand Daddy is a luxury four-star city hotel with an effervescent, creative soul. Generous, warm and welcoming; The Grand Daddy’s passion is for people. The Grand Daddy’s big talking point is its ‘penthouse’ trailer park, where a collection of vintage Airstream trailers nestle beneath the backdrop of Table Mountain. Each of the 7 two-sleeper trailer suites have been conceptualized and designed by local artists and makes for an accommodation destination like no other.

My sister and I stayed here for 6 nights on a recent trip to Cape Town and generally enjoyed our stay.

We arranged an airport pick up through the hotel and he was largely on time for our arrival. The price did change at the last minute though and when I asked why, multiple times, no one at the hotel would give me an answer.

The room itself was good, very spacious. The shower was over a tub which was fine provided no mobility issues. Ours did leak a bit so we'd end up with some water pooling under the sink but we used the bath mat to soak that up. The shower was generally good with good water pressure. However, our final two nights we had no hot water but the first 4 we did, not sure why. Bed was comfortable. We had a fridge, but unlike other reviews ours was not stocked.

We had a drink upstairs at the bar and dinner downstairs, both were good. Be prepared for loud music from the rooftop bar and also level 1 with what they've got happening there. It didn't worry our sleep and I'm not sure what time it stopped but might cause a problem for light sleepers.

The highlight was the breakfast each morning. There was continental style together with a la carte. Odwa in the breakfast room was a ray of sunshine each morning and by day 3 she had our drink orders ready before we'd even ordered. Food was absolutely delicious. Breakfast staff should be comended.

I'd stay again.

Dear Mel Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us at The Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel. We are delighted to hear that you and your sister generally enjoyed your six-night stay and found many aspects of our hotel to your liking. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience you experienced regarding the airport pick-up service and the change in price. We understand how frustrating this must have been, and we are currently reviewing our communication and procedures to ensure this does not happen in the future. We are pleased that you found your room spacious and comfortable, though we regret the issues you faced with the shower and hot water. Our maintenance team has been informed and will be addressing these concerns promptly to prevent future occurrences. We are also glad to hear that you enjoyed our bar and dining options, despite the noise from the rooftop bar. We strive to balance the vibrant atmosphere with the comfort of our guests, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter. It is wonderful to know that the highlight of your stay was the breakfast and the exceptional service provided by Odwa. We will certainly commend her and the breakfast staff for their outstanding service and dedication to making your mornings special. We are thrilled to hear that you would stay with us again, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to make your next stay even more enjoyable. Warm regards, Dawn Jansen Front Office Manager

My family of 4 stayed here for 4 nights in July and it was absolutely perfect. We had a family room which consisted of basically two hotel rooms (one with 1 bed and another with a bunk bed) that could be shut off by another door when we were in for the night. We also had 2 bathrooms which made getting ready in the mornings much easier. Staff was super friendly and helpful anytime we needed anything at all. We had breakfast and lunch once each at the restaurant, as well as drinks and dessert, and food was always good. We especially loved the rooftop bar in the evenings. The bartender even went out of his way to make my daughter a fancy milkshake one evening!

Location of the hotel was also nice because it was within safe walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops, which made it very easy to find dinner in the evenings. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

If you are looking for something different with some friendly and helpful staff, please do give Granddaddy Hotel a go. We wanted to try the roof top experience in the Airstream and it was every penny worth it. Remarking views of Cape Town and food and drinks that was absolutely lovely. It was mid winter and raining that day, even so was amazing. The staff made it well worth being on the roof top on a rainy day. Thank you Ben.

I wanted to rate the hotel higher but there were too many things that I didn’t enjoy. I booked two of the air streams for two nights upon arrival in Cape Town. Both air streams felt tired and the bathrooms could use a refresh. The trailer that my sister stayed in was smaller but felt like it had more room to move because it didn’t have so much furniture and our trailer had so many decorative pillows we didn’t know what to do with them. Additionally, the bar is literally in your face the moment you step out of your “room” so there is zero privacy. It’s like staying in a fishbowl. The hotel employees were all friendly and breakfast was excellent.

We appreciate your candid review and are glad to hear that you found our employees friendly and enjoyed the excellent breakfast. Despite booking through their website our booking was lost. The staff were rather quick to tell us that we did not have a booking - I had to offer to show them my proof before they investigated further. After a long wait they found the booking (an error on their part).

Additional extras such as parking and a "braai box" were booked but not in place when we arrived, and the reception staff attempted to bill for the items which had been paid for on placing the booking. If you arrive in your own vehicle it's important to note that there is ZERO parking for the hotel which can be used while checking in and this isn't made clear when booking your stay. Public parking outside is paid and not garunteed. We were initially told that there was no covered parking until I pointed out I had booked and paid for it - then suddenly there was parking available.

While the braai box is a lovely concept for rooftop the acoomodation, the three types of meat were not as advertised. They were what appeared to be defrosted meat handed to us in plastic bags on a plate - not exactly appetising and with nothing but salt and pepper provided as seasoning. The "handmade bread" was just two shop bought rolls and the "handmade chips" were not provided until I showed what was listed on the website. We mentioned this to a manager who did rectify this the best he could, which was greatly appreciated.

Check out was smoother than check in, but a mystery cost of R15 was outstanding which they couldn't explain. We paid as it was a small amount and not worth the hassle of more waiting for them to figure it out.

We stayed in the rooftop Winelands Airstream which was a very pleasant and fun experience. The Rooftop Sky Bar also has a great ambience and feel to it. All and all, despite booking issues, we enjoyed this unique stay.

However: Administration a Huge problem. Check your bill twice when checking out. In addition, the front desk staff and supervisor have terrible attitudes and should not be in hospitality whatsoever.

We made a one-night reservation at the beginning of January 2025, for the stay at the end of January. First, upon booking we paid the 50% requested deposit. The terms said the balance was due 7 days prior to arrival. We did not receive any acknowledgement after booking. In fact we received a mail saying we should complete our booking. 7 Days prior to arrival, there was no e-mail for the balance and no payment link anywhere, not on the invoice, and not even on their site. We phoned and the front desk said we should pay upon arrival. We told them that was what their own rules say. Two days prior to arrival we received a payment link out of the blue. We paid the balance in full using the portal link. Upon checkout, first the agent said we owed R100 for parking. We already paid that as part of our first payment. Then she said we owed R2,832 and she took our payment for R2,832. We assumed it was extras. When we asked (after paying), extras were R1067.00. They made us pay R1,750 more than we owed. After about 45 minutes of arguing, they finally agreed after a terrible attitude. They missed two of our payments via their portal. They promised to send us the invoice and to this day, despite u phining and e-mailing, we stil have not received it. They do not reply to any e-mails.

Sadly the checkout experience and what felt like "cheating" left a very bad taste, especially the non-care attitude with no apology at all.

We understand that the inconsistencies and errors in our communication and payment processing caused you undue stress and inconvenience. We are taking immediate action to rectify the issues you've raised, including reviewing and improving our booking process, payment processing, and communication protocols. Great location: it’s located on long street. There are many restaurants in walking distance and V&A waterfront is only 20-30 min walk from grand daddy.

Room: it’s modern, clean and well maintained. The only drawback is that many mosquitoes were in our room

Staff: they are friendly but not most helpful. They weren’t able to provide comprehensive PCR testing site info and we ended doing our own research

Noise: probably due to the location, there’s plenty of noise. The music from the bar/pub nearby could keep going until midnight everyday

Hotel located in an area where there are several restaurants. You can reach the waterfront and other characteristic destinations on foot. Clean and spacious rooms. Unfortunately the lift was often out of order and the breakfast could be improved with regards to sweets and drinks. It has an internal car park which is very useful if you are driving around as in the area if you stop for 10 seconds they ask you to pay.

We spent 2 nights here and loved it. The building is an amazing, colonial style building with amazing decor and an old fashioned elevator. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a hire car and were able to park it in the underground garage. Our room was quite small - typical city centre hotel room but was clean. The en-suite was very tired and needed a good deep clean to get rid of the moldy grout and the water pressure is poor. Good wifi and tea/coffee making facilities. We had breakfast in the Thirty Ate cafe attached to the hotel which was very good. Went there for a cocktail in the evening and the service however was poor so we walked out which was a shame.
It’s about a 20 min walk to the V&A where there are some amazing shops and restaurants.
Overall a great boutique hotel which was not overly expensive for its location.

Super cool hotel in a great, vibrant area. Old building features but modern newly decorated.
Really lovely staff here, shout-out to Eloise who couldn’t do enough. She even drove with me to the car park to show me where it was and how to do the parking ticket thing.
Great value for money also.
Uber cabs are really cheap and plentiful outside so you don’t have to worry about getting around after dark.

Dear Deepak G, Thank you for your enquiry. The Grand Daddy Hotel was built in the late 1800's, and therefore does not have onsite parking. However, we have an affiliation with a parkade nearby, and the parking fee will be refunded to you by the hotel. Regards, Brenda Campbell General Manager.
