The Grand Daddy is a luxury four-star city hotel with an effervescent, creative soul. Generous, warm and welcoming; The Grand Daddy’s passion is for people. The Grand Daddy’s big talking point is its ‘penthouse’ trailer park, where a collection of vintage Airstream trailers nestle beneath the backdrop of Table Mountain. Each of the 7 two-sleeper trailer suites have been conceptualized and designed by local artists and makes for an accommodation destination like no other.

I last stayed at this hotel when I was 25 and I loved it. I am now in my 30s and my opinion has somewhat changed! It’s an older hotel which is in need of some refurbishment— it’s probably 10-15 years past its last one. It’s in a noisy part of town, which was our main issue. The staff were very helpful and even happily moved us twice to different rooms to try to find somewhere quieter, but we could still hear music most of the night and as I am a light sleeper I had to sleep in noise cancelling headphones. Long St itself is a little dodgy— there are lots of restaurants in the area which is nice, but it might be advisable to take a taxi if you’re walking far after dark. The rooftop bar is a bit odd and feels like an afterthought and not well-put together.

Great location: it’s located on long street. There are many restaurants in walking distance and V&A waterfront is only 20-30 min walk from grand daddy.

Room: it’s modern, clean and well maintained. The only drawback is that many mosquitoes were in our room

Staff: they are friendly but not most helpful. They weren’t able to provide comprehensive PCR testing site info and we ended doing our own research

Noise: probably due to the location, there’s plenty of noise. The music from the bar/pub nearby could keep going until midnight everyday

My family of 4 stayed here for 4 nights in July and it was absolutely perfect. We had a family room which consisted of basically two hotel rooms (one with 1 bed and another with a bunk bed) that could be shut off by another door when we were in for the night. We also had 2 bathrooms which made getting ready in the mornings much easier. Staff was super friendly and helpful anytime we needed anything at all. We had breakfast and lunch once each at the restaurant, as well as drinks and dessert, and food was always good. We especially loved the rooftop bar in the evenings. The bartender even went out of his way to make my daughter a fancy milkshake one evening!

Location of the hotel was also nice because it was within safe walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops, which made it very easy to find dinner in the evenings. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

I wanted to rate the hotel higher but there were too many things that I didn’t enjoy. I booked two of the air streams for two nights upon arrival in Cape Town. Both air streams felt tired and the bathrooms could use a refresh. The trailer that my sister stayed in was smaller but felt like it had more room to move because it didn’t have so much furniture and our trailer had so many decorative pillows we didn’t know what to do with them. Additionally, the bar is literally in your face the moment you step out of your “room” so there is zero privacy. It’s like staying in a fishbowl. The hotel employees were all friendly and breakfast was excellent.

We stayed over on a pre-valentines trip to Cape Town. The hotel has a wonderful retro old world charm from the tiny "garage" to the petite and super friendly reception. It is very central in a part of town that is viby and quintessentially african. Great simple breakfast downstairs and quick service. All the staff were super friendly and accomodating. The bar on the roof could do with a good clean but the views into the city skyline and the mountain are great. Lovely room, quite small but funky, with a big comfortable bed and fully working telly. Excellent Air conditioning which was really welcome in the heat. Good wifi and nice touches like a bag of jelly beans and fruit gums for turn down, complimentary mineral water and coffee. Really nice quality soap and body wash in the bathroom. The downsides are really more those related to water restricted Cape Town so the flow of water from the shower is a bit like an old man with a prostrate issue. Never mind - it was hot - just a slow process to erm...rinse everywhere. Love the old lift. Reminded me of some of the hotels I have stayed in Barcelona. Very hipster. I almost grew a beard and a man bun, but really fun. A reccomended option. Well done team.

The Rooftop Airstream Trailer Park is a real treat for Airstream enthusiasts! This is a historical old hotel in a busy part of downtown Cape Town. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The airstreams are beautifully refitted and tastefully decorated.

We spent 2 nights here and loved it. The building is an amazing, colonial style building with amazing decor and an old fashioned elevator. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a hire car and were able to park it in the underground garage. Our room was quite small - typical city centre hotel room but was clean. The en-suite was very tired and needed a good deep clean to get rid of the moldy grout and the water pressure is poor. Good wifi and tea/coffee making facilities. We had breakfast in the Thirty Ate cafe attached to the hotel which was very good. Went there for a cocktail in the evening and the service however was poor so we walked out which was a shame.
It’s about a 20 min walk to the V&A where there are some amazing shops and restaurants.
Overall a great boutique hotel which was not overly expensive for its location.

Super cool hotel in a great, vibrant area. Old building features but modern newly decorated.
Really lovely staff here, shout-out to Eloise who couldn’t do enough. She even drove with me to the car park to show me where it was and how to do the parking ticket thing.
Great value for money also.
Uber cabs are really cheap and plentiful outside so you don’t have to worry about getting around after dark.

I booked the top room at the Grand Daddy, the Grand Daddy suite for what it was meant to be a great start to our South African holiday over NYE. When we arrived we were told that due to an error in the booking system and with Expedia we wouldn’t get the suite we had booked, but a superior room (which turned out to be a standard room, one of those overlooking the internal courtyard). The other option would’ve been a cancellation and refund - and good luck in finding a room on 31st December! When we told the manager we weren’t happy she responded that the difference between the cost of the GD suite and a superior (standard!) room was only about €20. Wrong as they sell those rooms for about €100 less. They tried to come up with goodwill gestures (a meal at their restaurant which we had no use for as we had already booked places for our lunches and dinners) and free parking which we ended paying ourselves as they ran out of prepaid parking tickets. When I wrote to them after our trip complaining they simply ignored my email. Terrible terrible customer service in spiate of the fact it’s a nice hotel and nice staff. But don’t bother booking expensive rooms over there as you’re unlikely to get them anyway.

This hotel is truly outstanding. The rooms are not only comfortable but also tastefully decorated. The staff and management are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the breakfast meets a correct standard. However, there is one caveat to be aware of: avoid booking a room that faces the street. Across the street, there is a bar that plays loud music well into the night. Initially, this caused us sleepless nights, but the management promptly relocated us to a room at the rear, resolving the issue. Their swift action and commitment to guest satisfaction earned them a well-deserved five-star rating.

Dear Deepak G, Thank you for your enquiry. The Grand Daddy Hotel was built in the late 1800's, and therefore does not have onsite parking. However, we have an affiliation with a parkade nearby, and the parking fee will be refunded to you by the hotel. Regards, Brenda Campbell General Manager.
