I enjoyed staying at the Circa Hotel very much. The rooms are actually spacious apartments. My apartment had a full kitchen with a granite bar and Bosch appliances, a living room with wall-mounted flat screen, a bedroom with king-sized bed and a bathroom with double sinks and separate bathtub and shower. There was also a wrap-around balcony. Everything was very stylish and in good condition. The kitchen had some utensils, glasses and plates, but you need to pay for self-catering to get access to pots and pans. One thoughtful touch was that converters were provided for the electrical outlets. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel entrance is on a pedestrian mall which your driver may not be able to find. Just be prepared to walk around the building. Front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and willing to help with any problems. L’Amuse, the hotel restaurant which serves the breakfast, is small, but very clean and the food is excellent. There are plenty of warm options on the buffet, and a few items can be ordered a la carte as well. The Eggs Benedict were superb. The hotel is well situated, near the Convention Center and within walking distance of the V&A waterfront. The area appears safe in the daytime, but as with almost anywhere in Cape Town, exercise caution at night. There is a Food Lovers Market nearby with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as meals prepared in the store available for takeout. I would definitely stay at the Circa Hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have less street noise, but the gusty Cape Town winds can get quite loud...

We stayed here for two nights recently. It is a great value (huge suites with full kitchens) and very good location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. There are a couple of oddities you should be aware of before you book. This place is really hard to find! There is no street-front access. We could see the sign but drove around and around trying to figure out how to get there. Finally we pulled over and walked through the plaza to the front door. The clerk had to open an unmarked garage door on the alley for us to park the car.
The rooms are very nice and large and the location is very good. There are a couple of quirks though. The designers here went for form over function and the bathroom is not separated from the bedroom. if you need privacy when using the toilet, this place is not for you! Also if you turn on the bathroom light at night you will illuminate the entire bedroom. One personal issue is there is no light at the sink and this makes it difficult to apply makeup, etc.
If you do stay here the restaurant attached through the lobby is excellent and you should go for dinner. We discovered that it is actually one of the best dining spots in the city!

I stayed for a night, facilities and room are good. I was really put off when I checked in because they took an imprint of my credit card & wrote my CVV number down. They said it was for breakages and when I objected the receptionist became quite aggressive! Also charged me R80 for parking which was not disclosed when I made the booking

Ended up canceling my stay due to atrocious service and business practice! Found a rate on booking.com and called hotel to see if they would match it. Manager Assen said he would if I sent a screenshot of the rate, which I did. I immediately called back to confirm he received it and made the booking but he was busy. Fifteen minutes later he emailed back to say the rate was now 30% higher than I found even though the same types and numbers of room availability was showing! Conveniently they changed the rate on booking.com I assume, to force me to book their new higher rate! I found this unacceptable and unethical seeing he said he would match the rate if I could send him a screenshot which I did! I decided to cancel my stay as they obviously don’t care about customer service.

Not a very nice location. Homeless people around the area. Apartment (105) dark and dreary. Certainly nothing like profile picture. Not exactly hotel facilities. Restaurant very basic. Breakfast limited and not very good quality. Would I stay here again? No way!

We stayed at The Circa on the Square for 9 nights. After looking at all the reviews we thought it would be ideal for our stay with our family. We originally booked to stay for 3 weeks but changed our booking so that we could travel down to the Garden Route. Our booking was made via Booking.com. Because of the changes we were owed by the Hotel 7000 Rands. We were willing to wait until our arrival at the hotel for our reimbursement. Which I might add we were assured of. The booking was made 6 months in advance and when we arrived at the Circa we asked if the funds would be made available to us, to which we were told that yes they would. 5 days later we were still awaiting our money back. We tried to get hold of the Manager Mr Hassan who was never available to talk to..and I soon found out why. When we went down to reception almost 7 days later we were ushered into Mr. Hassans office and the first thing he said to myself and my husband was not a hello or welcome to Circa or I’m sorry for any inconvenience. But “So you’re the person that has sent me 30 e-mails”! He actually told us at one point that it was our fault that we hadn’t gotten our refund back, and basically threatened us that if we were to push for our own money that he would delay even further and that he someone suspected that something was not right with our booking. He was arrogant, rude and I have never in my life had the unfortunate experience to encounter a General Manger such as Mr. Hassan. Mr. Hassan informed us that he is not only the General Manager but also the owner of the Hotel. And that is the problem. I would advise Mr. Hassan to employ a Manager who has the necessary people skills to deal with customers in a kind and fair way. We did receive payment from the hotel but this was after a lot of aggravation. We shouldn’t have had to spend our holidays running around after our own money. I definitely will not be staying at this hotel ever again which is a real shame. Managers especially ones who own the Hotel should be an example to their staff members. Mr Hassan was not!!

A total fiasco:
Arrival on Sunday. Hotel restaurant and lounge closed. Unsafe neighborhood after 6 pm. Inner city setting. Can’t access Hotel entrance from street. Taxi/ Uber drop off in back alley. (Uber driver got out to walk me to the door, without me asking for it).
Hotel in shabby state. Dirty showers, walls, damaged furniture, dirty couch (needed to put down bath towels to sit on). Gross carpet. Bad smell.
I complained but the General Manager was nowhere to be found, the Deputy stood in to no avail. I sent 2 emails with pictures and a list of complaints which were ignored.
I made the mistake to have one breakfast out of 6, not a good idea, still having problems.
Not safe, not clean, ... a 2.5-3 Star at best.

Me and my friend stayed at Circa Hotel in November last year, recently we found out that one of the staff members used our shower and took photos with and without clothes in our bathroom, using my friends phone! That´s HORRIBLE! Otherwise we enjoyed the stay, But we will never ever recommend this hotel to anyone, what else happened in our room when we were out?

Not only is the place run down, but we were badly treated by staff and the manager himself. Staying there ruined our holiday. The managers attitude was demeaning and aggressive. They also boast a luxury suit but the views consist of run down buildings and the rooms themselves were not cleaned properly.

My wife and I stayed five nights during October 2014.

The hotel is located in the lower city centre, approximately 20 minutes' walk from the waterfront which is Cape Town's main tourist precinct (and probably a better, if more expensive, place to stay). Other reviews have said that the walk is "safe". I guess that's a matter of opinion but we found the surrounding area to be quiet at night, with a few homeless types shuffling around, so preferred to take a taxi after dark. The entire city centre goes from buzzing at 5pm to almost deserted by 7pm, whereas the waterfront is lively at all hours.

Our room was spacious if slightly dated. A good self-catering setup. The TV seemed to be failing as the screen blinked for a couple of minutes each time prior to the picture settling. The air con was difficult to set properly, with the fluctuating temperatures making sleeping uncomfortable at times. The bathroom immediately adjoined the bedroom, with frosted glass doors and a couple of panes missing (not sure if this was intentional). This set-up, which seems to be becoming popular, offers little privacy for bathroom activities. At times there was a noticeable odour and gurgling sounds from the bathroom drains.

The tea, coffee and milk provided in the room seemed to be carefully rationed, with one small sachet of milk and two teabags provided each day. The lowlight of the stay was when we overheard another guest asking for more milk, to be told by reception that only sachet was allowed per room per day. Was it really worth disappointing a valued guest over a few pennies worth of milk?

Breakfast was excellent, providing a good range of continental and cooked options (including some cook-to-order selections such as omlettes). Wifi (at 70 Rand per day) and parking (80 Rand) were expensive by South African standards. There was a dated PC with slow connection available for free internet in the lobby.

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to give you a timely response. I'm sure that you found out that the hotel cannot accommodate a large vehicle in it's private parking. You can park outside.
