Detailed Reviews
The service when you try to book in is shocking. No one cares to help you and some of the staff are rude. Def was not the case a year ago. I travel monthly and always stay at the Cape Royal. My experience in the past 3 months has not been a good one. Over and above if you want to clean the apartment you need to pay R450 per day, which is ridiculous. This month, I am booking somewhere else. The apartment 414 was clean and pleasant.

Positive:
It was located in same building where we booked a Moonlight Spa experience, which was amazing pampering with use of sauna and shower in a private spa room. We were able to go directly via lift from Spa to our suite, then get ready & walk to the restaurant a 2 minute walk away, for an amazing dinner that I pre-booked at at Upper Bloem Restaurant. The location of hotel suite 414, is very good in walking distance from lots of restaurants and entertainment. The building is very well maintained, very clean & neat & staff of hotel also very friendly & courteous. I met up with agent called Lauren from Propati, so as to collect the key upon arrival at lobby. She showed us to our parking & assisted us to take our luggage up to our room & also came to meet us upon check out at our room and accompanied us down again to parking level and we gave keys over to her before departure, we received excellent and very efficient service from Lauren.
Negative:
The place in bedroom section, where the table with stool was located, where the power plug was and where you could blow-dry your hair was not practical. It had a smaller TV on the wall (the place where mirror should be),so I had to use my own private power extension lead (which I always take with me when I travel with plug adaptor) to be able to blow-dry my hair, by the large mirror in the passage way. I could do my make up using a nice mirror in bathroom. Just a bit inconvenient moving around like that when trying to get ready. The power point in bathroom was only for man's shaver located near mirror. Nothing else was negative.

Central location in Green Point,15 min walk to V&A waterfront. We had a seaview room with a fab view. No complaints with our apartment. We did not use the spa but booked a fantastic spa day at One & Only on the waterfront.
Front doorman always has a smile and greets everyone.
Bars, restaurants, supermarket and excellent ice cream shop also nearby.
Cape town has so much to offer and plenty to do, city sightseeing bus pass highly recommended which includes extra free trips which you need to pre book.

While the Cape Royale building and staff are fantastic, you need to be very careful about which apartment or room you choose. We unfortunately had a dud of an apartment. We he waited six years to visit Cape Town and we very excited by our trip. We thought we had booked an amazing place in a great location. But sadly we had booked a really run down place that looked out onto a car park.
If you are booking the Cape Royale ensure that you ask for pictures from the windows and the balconies.
Cape Royale 215 was a dump. There were cockroaches, air con that did not work, mould in the bathroom, a toilet that just constantly filled with water. And worst of a woman named “Dr” Arlene who seems to be a total con artist. We spoke to her on several occasions and she never fixed a thing, never helped and certainly never helped us to leave. In the end we had to use our life savings to book another hotel and had to miss out on the safari and the ride up Table Mountain etc.
If you stay at the Cape Royal. Ensure that you avoid the Cape Royale 215 at all costs. You may be dissatisfied, disappointed and sad 😔. And it may end up costing you dearly.

This was our second stay at cape royale and definitely the last.
We booked a cape royale apartment on hotels.com . There were 2 options - front ocean facing or mountain facing. We selected ocean facing. When we arrived we were given an apartment with no view on the side of the building.
Hotels.com promised to get back to me regarding this and nobody did.
I was given a number for Linda from
Whosting which is the company that deals with the letting of the apartments.
She did not answer any calls or reply to messages.
Future prospective guests please be aware that after check in there is no one to assist with anything as the host refuses to make herself available.
We have had wonderful stays with excellent service at the Westin Cape Town as well as the Hyatt Regency (previously Hilton).

We got to the Cape Royal hotel, on time (10 min early) for our pre-booked spa/massage experience. On arrival we went up to the counter and our name was ticked off, we were told to wait outside the reception area and we would be called, we followed the instruction and waited outside. After 20min I started to get concerned as other couples who were arriving after us were being helped first. I then went inside to the reception and asked again, "how does this work?" I was told they are sanitizing the area and someone will be with us shortly. Then saw yet again another couple who arrived after us being helped first, so it was clear to me there was no system. We had no seating and were standing outside, eagerly awaiting to be called yet nobody ever came. I then asked to speak to a manager as it was hot, our legs were hurting and it was stressful watching other couples jumping in front of us. The manager came out and then got us in next, the massage was very basic, it seems they did not know what they were doing? The ladies kicked over a portable fan in the room, the fan was blowing loud and was drowning out the tranquil music. The massage was not an hour as promised. All this from a 5 star hotel? I was very disappointed. This was not the relaxing experience promised to us.

We stayed in an apartment managed by McStay. The apartment was nothing like the flashy photos on booking.com showing a big two-story well-maintained apartment with dining area, plenty of light, views, etc. It was a small, very dark and dirty apartment which badly needed attention. The bedroom was in a back-room with no window and a shower in the corner of the room. There was no dining area, there was only one window and it was towards two noisy streets with a total of 8 lanes, one of two chairs was broken (and there were only bar chairs), a cupboard door in the kitchen was hanging badly, the couch was disgusting, there were big holes in the walls, etc. The apartment was dirty and smelly, the fridge smelled badly and there was an insect killing trap on the floor. After we complained to McStay and demanded a new apartment, McStay sent a cleaner when we were out. You could barely tell a difference. Also, when we returned, the cleaner had left the door to the apartment with all our belongings wide open for any one to enter while we were gone. McStay informed us that they had no other apartments and they would send the cleaner yet again. As it was late, we stayed one night, and demanded a refund for the 2nd night. Despite several mails and calls, the only thing we heard from McStay was that it was against their policy to give a refund! It is no surprise that McStay has not reacted to further calls or mails.

I very much do not like leaving negative public reviews - I work in the travel industry and understand that things can go wrong and when they do, which happens, I always strive to resolve things directly with the property. Sadly this has not been possible as the management team of Cape Finest were not present during my stay, dismissed my first email with a generic response (without addressing the points I took time to outline) and then ignored my two follow-up emails.
A plethora of things disappointed - noisy refurbishments are going on in the hallway which most rooms back onto; noisy fridge alarms sound each evening when the power is turned off; sluggish responses to simple requests; no toiletries in the rooms; no working safe in the room compromising safety; only being provided 1 key per room as the other key 'was missing'; very tired and dusty rooms.
I work in the travel industry, have travelled to over 90 countries and stay in apartments and hotels about 30 times a year. I have never once encountered a property so dismissive of its guests or so derelict of empathy.
Summary: great please to stay if you like interrupted sleep and have a loathing of hospitality.

I was there for the restaurant (which was a bad experience on its own) but the setup is that you wait in The Cape Royal before being taken up to Casuarina. The Cape Royal staff were so aggressive and not helpful at all. I was shocked by how we were spoken to. I see that this complaint was made before, what have they done to address it? The restaurant is also a disaster.
The worst part is that Casuarina is selling 100s of wikideal vouchers so they have your money already before you have the experience.

Dear Geoff M
Thank you for your message.
Yes, we do have secure facilities where you can store your luggage.
Early arrivals are also subject to availability and should the room be available on the day we'd be happy to arrange an earlier arrival. Please check with our reception when you've arrived to see whether the suite is available for check in.
Please do let me know whether you have any further questions?
Regards
Kim
i tried to remove the review after i realised that i had written a right review at a wrong hotel, my apologies for the confusion.
Not sure about the pool but there was plenty of water when we were there.
Tricky, but as far as I can remember, the hotel is quite responsive and helpful in offering required services. Albeit big, the bathroom did not really have additional equipment for disabled people. However, other rooms may have. Worth asking the question.
When I went in June of 2017, the pool and rooftop bar were closed due to bad weather.
