What an incredible stay! The Atlantic Suite has the most breathtaking views over the ocean at Camps bay. The bathtub and shower with a view are simply stunning. We watched the sunset then the moon rise over table mountain while sipping champagne in the Jacuzzi, a memory I will never forget.
There is onsite parking (but note it is a steep hill into the private garage) but it is safe and onsite at no charge. The views really cannot be beat! Hot cooked to order Breakfast is served overlooking the ocean and there is an honor bar for your sundowners.
The location is just above the Camps Bay promenade. We walked to the Hop On/Hop off bus in less than 10 minutes (however we took a 50 rand uber back from the stop as it was quite an uphill slog and we were exhausted after a day touring Cape Town. Doing the coastal route drive is super easy from the location as is getting to V&A waterfront and table Mountain. It really is an amazing guesthouse and you cannot beat the central location, which is very safe and Camps Bay is full of great restaurants.
We loved Cape Town and especially our beautiful suite and amazing hospitality at Houghton View Guesthouse. It definitely has the WOW factor! Wow rooms and wow service with WOW views!

We spent two nights at Lion's Eye and had an amazing time. The room was as depicted, the staff went out of their way to make it special (flower petals and chocolates as it was our honeymoon), and everything was spotless. Comfy beds, great communal spaces, easy walk into town, and delicious breakfast.

On our last day we checked out at 10am but didn't have to leave for the airport until 4:30pm, and they held our bags and let us stay on the premises until we needed to go. Everyone was incredibly nice and accommodating. Would 100% stay again and recommend!

Wow every corner you turn at Houghton view you are greeted with either views of the Atlantic, Lions Head and 12 Apostles.

The guesthouse is clean and modern and well equipped with everything you need for a stay in camps bay. Houghton View offers an honestly bar which is well stocked and you are able to use the fridge and cook on site.

We stayed in the Garden Suite located on the lower floor which comes with a terrace and well sized bathroom.

Each morning we were greeted by the lovely Lawaya and Sascha who couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome during our stay.

We used Uber & Bolt to travel to most of our activities and restaurant reservations but the main area of camps bay is within walking distance.

Thinking of staying in Camps Bay? You have to stay here!

This was our last hotel during our honeymoon trip. We were staying at the PENTHOUSE room, which provides amazing views (beachfront), private floor, hot tub (although we had to ask them to turn the temperature down because it was extremely too hot and burn yourself going in).
- First, although we did mention that it was our honeymoon by email before, there was nothing special for us. Sometimes a little gift or gesture makes all the difference right? All the other 5 hôtels we've been to before this one, there was either flowers, champagne bottle or even sweets waiting for us opon arrival. And all this for FREE. The manager was ready to do that for us for an ridiculous extra cost. I mean, we do pay a huge price for the penthouse suite already. They end up doing that at our last night, but we had to mention this disapointment to him 2 days before.
- There was also a cleaning product bottle left in the bathroom, a stack of rug/towel left in on a shelf in the living room area, a mini-bar list of items/prices for snacks but there was NO SNACKS during all the 3 days in. Had to run and find the pool towels if needed at night because they put them away at the end of the day. Nowhere to be found. And most important, there was an invasion of ants in the bathroom/shower area. I had to ask the manager to put some product to get less of thèses ants everywhere. It wasn't very clean after all.
Too bad the service was not great because the place is beautiful.

Response from CalvinWest, General Manager at Living Hotel Lion's Eye
Responded 10 Jan 2020
Dear MounPig Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, It is however disappointing though as some of the items you have raised is factually incorrect. Upon arrival you did bring to the attention of the assistant manager that it was your honeymoon and that your expected something for FREE. This is something we do all the time and that thousand of happy guests can attest to, but unfortunately when the assistant manager came to inform me that you requested something we had a look and could not find anything, not saying you did not request it, merely saying that what you requested did not reach us. If it had you room would have been set-up free of charge with rose petals, champagne, chocolates and a large bouquet of flowers. Whomever (if anyone really did) told you that you had to pay for this was ill informed about our offerings for honeymoon guests. That being said, doing something special for guests on honeymoon is not something written in stone nor is it something that is required per the tourism grading council or any guidelines within the standard services that has to be offered within a 5 start establishment. This is merely a gesture from a hotel / guest house saying congratulations that is why I feel it is grossly unfair to base your review on this, as this is not part of the services / standards that you paid for. Your are totally correct in saying you have paid a substantial amount of money, but so did the other guests staying with us, who did not get anything and all of their expectations was not only met but exceeded. I would also just like to add that we are a top 10 Honeymoon destination in Cape Town, an award that is not easily obtainable all proving the effort we make to not only attract honeymoon guests but to blow their expectations out of the park. All this points to the reason why I instructed the assistant manager to put the items in your room on your second day, as well as a letter apologizing and explaining that your request did not reach us. The snacks however is in the drawer below the coffee station. The cleaning bottle you are referring to is hand sanitizer, clearly marked in a clean, clear bottle and the rag you are mentioning is a brand new dishcloth to use at you semi kitchenette basin. Pool towels are packed away at night, as this is standard practice as it is very rare for someone to go to the pool / beach at night As far as the ants go I can only extend my sincerest apology, although this has nothing to do with a cleanliness problem as ants can pop up anywhere anytime. I trust that I have addressed all your concerns constructively. Any guest reading this review and response and that has any questions pertaining to certain aspects are welcome to contact us. Kind regards Calvin Westcott

From the pre-arrival phone call to the care of the items left behind, it is clear that the staff are serious about looking after their guests. Thank you! It makes such a difference. The views are awesome while the location provides for convenient access to the beach side restaurants. And the breakfasts are absolutely world class.

We had a 3 night stay in living hotel lion’s eye and can not fault it. Upon arrival Lwando was extremely welcoming and made every effort to get us checked into our room early.

Room was one of the most stunning we have ever stayed in. We had the Atlantic suite which was huge with amazing sea views and had exceptional amenities such as a hot tub on the balcony, Ghd hairdryer and straighteners, free bottled water throughout the day and free laundry.

Breakfast was good but the lunch we did have at the hotel we particularly enjoyed.

The location of the hotel is fantastic with a short 10 min walk (felt very safe) down to camps bay beach and promenade.

If you are wanting a modern clean hotel with great service in the camps Bay Area we would highly recommend this one and will be returning!

we were at Houghton view for our Dec holiday, we booked the penthouse suite, it provided us with 360 degrees of surround view - wake up with amazing sea view and table mountain in the morning is just out of this world.

In the afternoon you can pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the jacuzzi at sundown with amazing camps bay beach view

staff service is excellent, very friendly and very helpful. Check in is easy and fully COVID compliance...

Location is excellent... will definitely return in near future.

From arrival to departure, there has been nothing that was too much for the team at the property. We had unfortunately arrived during what we were told was an extreme weather situation so the balconies and pool were off limits. To compensate, the manager kindly offered us a bottle of wine! Such a nice touch.
The lady serving breakfast in the morning was an absolute hospitality professional. Always making time to speak with us and ask about our day and make some recommendations as to where to go etc.
Upon understanding that we were celebrating a particularly special occasion, they provided another bottle of wine in our room which was enormously welcomed and also gave us a room upgrade!
We were really blown away by the hospitality here and will definitely return!
A perfect location just a little outside camps bay strip which is around a 10 to 15 min walk or 5 min drive. Parking spaces available in secure garages and the views were absolutely incredible! We will return. Thank you for everything!

Hi Britt, Thank you so much for getting in touch with us. The Penthouse is not closed off completely, but there is clear signage and a glass door indicating that the Penthouse is for Penthouse guests only, on our check in tours all guests not staying in the Penthouse are also advised that they are not allowed to go up to the second floor and that the use thereof is strictly for the Penthouse only. I cant recall that we that someone has gone up there in the last two years although guests has raised it as a concern. If it helps putting your mind at ease, the only access that is open is the Private lounge, the room its-self has lockable doors. There are On-Site staff available 24/7. The manager stays on-site in a garden flat downstairs and the assistant manager stays on-site next door at Houghton View 13. From time to time they might go out for Dinner in the evening but is always reachable by phone and can get back to the guest house in 10 - 15 Minutes. The on-site manager can arrange tours, transfers and Excursions before your arrival and can assist as a concierge throughout your stay. Hope this answers all your questions, Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance with anything else. Kind regards Calvin
