We were positively stunned by the beautiful accommodation and the wonderful views overlooking Camps Bay .The breakfast buffet was delicious and served in a pleasant sunfilled room so a great start to the day. On the negative side we were unfortunate enough to have some money stolen from our safe so an upsetting incident when we were only on our second day in South Africa. So beware !

After a very unpleasant stay at Avatara Hoterl in Cape Town, we were astonished by the sheer quality and breathtaking views at Atholl House Hotel in the upmarket suberb of Camps Bay - and it was cheaper than Avatara - Atholl cost £70 per night!!! Unbelieveable value. We were greated by Brendan the manager who showed us to our rooms and carried our suit cases - he is charming and exceedingly helpful without being intrusive or obsequious. There is easy on-street parking at the end of a very quiet cul de sac. We walked down ther steep hill into town (15-20 mins) and got a taxi back (under £3 or 30 Rands as advised by Brendan)The vast room (Amathyst) is open planned which would not suit everyone but Brendan offered a nearby private bathroom, so it was never a problem. The shower was vast but water pressure was not great. The bath was huge too. There is a wide choice of teas and one type of coffee - we requested more coffee and sugar which arrived within minutes. You get an extra king size bed - very comfortable and firm - with lovely bed linen and designer cushions, nice average size towels and 2 huge beach towels, dressing gowns, slippers, quality shower gel, shampoo and conditioners, chocolate/cocoa brazils and toffees, bottled water, a well stocked not for profit mini-bar/fridge, and unlimited free wifi. My room had 2 armchairs and a coffee table to work from. You don't even need to take your own laptop as Brendan has both a laptop in the lounge area available all of the time or you can use his computer in his office.
Our breakfast was cooked to order and was faultless. My order for crispy bacon, mushrooms and 2 poached eggs was perfect. There was a choice of fresh croissants, various mueslis and cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, cold meat and cheese (Brie). The jams tasted home made and were full of fruit. There was constant coffee or tea. The gardens are lovely and the decks superb and there is a very clean swimming pool. The sunsets are legendry and your extensive balcony offers seating for two with a table. Our flight was an evening one but Brendan was happy for us to keep our room all day and even offered to allow us to return later to shower before our return home - brilliant service. We can't wait to return to this gem in the hills above beautiful Camps Bay.

I stayed at Atholl House for 2 nights in Nov and it far exceeded my expectations. I don't tend to stay in guesthouses and I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of thought, care and attention to detail Atholl has been given. The welcome was fantastic, we were shown around with the facilities fully explained. Our room was beautiful with a stunning open plan bathroom area. We were given welcome drinks and a wonderful tray of snacks to help us settle in and there was always someone on hand if we wanted travel advice or had any questions. Home made cakes were left out for guests to help themselves too (delicious) and the breakfast was a very well presented continental buffet with hotel breakfast made to order. I could not fault the place and all the people working there were wonderful. The location is also great...it took us around 10-15mins to walk into Camps Bay and you can get an Uber in minutes. Definitely a place I would highly recommend.

We stayed here for 4 nights and would stay again. It deserves a 5 star rating and other places I have stayed with 5 stars could learn from this beautiful little guest hose. Breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked. Staff were great and the owner could not do enough for us. Wonderful views, peaceful, can't recommend highly enough

Atholl house is situated in a beautiful location and very tastefully decorated. Rooms are small but very nice. Hosts are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good. Only - but quite significant - downside for us: the curtains in the room do not darken properly. They are made of light colored cloth and the room is filled with light in the morning - no possibility of sleeping in if you are sensitive to light... Additionally the walls are very thin and you hear the personal as well as other guests moving around the house. Therefore we would not go again...

We Han an incredible stay at the Atholl house. My husband and I arrived late in the evening and Brendan was there to greet us with a warm welcome. We were upgraded to the Onyx suite with beautiful views of Camps Bay and the mountains. The beds were so comfortable, you melted into it. I also appreciated the beautiful bathroom with a soaking tub decked out with many candles and matches.

Every morning we enjoyed our delicious breakfast over looking the ocean. Most of all we enjoyed our conversations with Brendan who was so friendly. We enjoyed learning about the politics and culture of the area in addition to wonderful itinerary suggestions with maps printed out for us. We were treated so special. We felt like we were the only ones there.

I highly recommend a stay at the Atholl House if you are going to Camps Bay.

We loved our stay at Atholl House and Camps Bay. The location was stunning with table mountain and the Twelve Apostles to the side and a beautiful view over the bay in front. The beach front resturants and cafe's were great for our evenings out. The V&A Waterfront was about 7 minutes away by taxi or car. The accomodation was spacious, beautiful and comfortable. Brendan was a great host, friendly, very helpful and not a bad cook. He provides a good breakfast of your choice each morning along with his friendly banter. I'm so pleased we stayed here and not in one of the impersonal hotels in the city. This was our first time in this type of accomodation and it will not be our last - we loved it.

The hotel has perfect view. We definitely enjoyed staying there. The room was very comfortable and clean. Brendan and Katja were very helpful. They helped us to arrange a peninsula tour & transportation. Location of the hotel is as good as the service quality. It takes around 60 Rands to waterfront. It is also very close to camps bay coast where you can find good restaurants for an excellent dinner. We hope to be back again.

We stayed at Atholl House during the quiet season, in late August 2011. We chose on the basis of positive Tripadvisor reviews, as well as photos on the website.

The house is located in an upmarket area, Camps Bay. It's very suburban and I felt comfortable going out jogging around the local roads (they are very steep, which makes a good workout if you're that way inclined!). It's located quite high up- definitely one of the higher roads in Camps Bay- so a car would be a very good idea here; although the seafront is walkable distance it wouldn't be convenient to keep doing the walk up and down. (Parking is no problem outside the B & B as it is at the end of a cul de sac). The upside is that there are fantastic panoramic views from the balcony- you really couldn't ask for a better view, and I saw better sunsets here every night than I did at the Twelve Apostles Hotel, famous for its sundowner views. Even when the weather's bad, it's a good spot to watch the sea.

The room itself was very comfortable with a huge bed and modern furnishings. The decor is themed by colour- not stunning, but nicely and thoughtfully put together in a modern way and would suit anyone who is wary of chintz and dodgy decor! We stayed in the Ruby Room which was bigger than expected, with a lot of storage space. The television was small but adequate for our needs. Heating was easily controllable via remote control ('turn-off-and-on-able' as Creatures Comforts once quipped!), which I really liked as a few of the winter days were chilly. The bathroom sometimes got really cold but that's nothing to complain about; it soon heated up once the shower was powered up- a great shower in a really spacious shower unit. The bath with views out was a nice touch too.

Breakfasts were decent, if not outstanding. There were options for fried breakfasts/eggs with toast, as well as croissants, pastries, freshly baked muffins, yoghurt, museli, cereal and some cheese/meats. You'd have to be fussy not to be satisfied with the spread offered.

The hosts- Brendan in particular- were very kind, friendly and a great source of local information, but never obtrusive. There's a computer in the lounge area which guests can access. The house seemed very safe and there seemed to be someone around all the time to check security, which was reassuring.

I would be happy to return to this guesthouse and more than willing to recommend to others looking for a welcoming, comfortable stay in Cape Town.
