This facility and especially the room we stayed in qualifies to be used as a gritty Motel setting in an American movie set. What you see on the booking.com website and what you get to stay in (room no 46) is worlds apart. The room was old and in need of maintenance and refurbishment. There is no TV, aircon or fridge. A small roof fan tried it's best to keep us cool in the summer heat. The bathroom sliding door needs to be rehanged every time you use it. The shower is partially closed with a shower door and a shower curtain where there used to be a shower. The ceiling is covered in mildew. If our room is the standard for all the other rooms I would recommend that you only stay there if there is no alternative in the area and it is not possible to rather drive trough to the next town.

We stopped at Wagon Wheel on way down to Cape Town. I will most definitely stay here again rather than in Bauford West town itself. Clean rooms - value for money. We did not have WiFi and reported it to management. They were very responsive and while they were unable to fix the lack og internet access Janet’s responsiveness and positive approach to dealing with complaints is evidence that they do appreciate the importance of customer care. If you find anything not to be what you expected then talk to them don’t keep quit about it - they can only address what they know.
There is a restaurant on premises.

Very disappointed with place. Everything looks good on the pics but the pics are probably 5years old. It’s a motel and not a lodge. Pool area was run down and uninviting. The table in our room almost collapsed it was so unstable. Not suitable for kids at all but we specified that we bringing two kids with.

Yes, it’s a fairly basic motel on the main road between Jo burg and Cape Town, but it really deserves to be declared a South African national monument. You can only guess at the number of travellers who have stayed here over the years or seen it from the road. I recently stayed here again after a 40-year gap and loved every minute of it - the pure Karoo air, the friendliness of the staff and the surprisingly good restaurant. I enjoyed it so much that I returned for a second night. The smallest rooms are very small but if you choose a bigger room (not expensive), walk around the grounds and eat supper and breakfast here you are unlikely to regret it. Wagon Wheel deserves to go on for another 100 years. It probably will.

Not good that’s all I’m gonna say! Very unhappy with the stay. They have small glass shelves in the bathroom right above the toilet, if you hit your head on it and break it you’re responsible to pay them R200 for fixing. A shelf with no purpose but just a hazard. Will most likely never stop here again.

We should have believed other reviews that said that wagon wheel is far from a lodge. It definitely is a motel.. grimy, dingy and totally disappointing. I have no idea what they do to enhance the photos. But the rooms certainly do not have any charm that the photographs deliver!

We stayed in the standard twin room. It's pretty basic. Wifi so useless it's effectively non-existent. Cockroaches. Gaps of 2-3cms underneath entrance door and bathroom door. In contrast, the staff were pleasant. Price excessive for what is provided.

Oldest motel in S.A.. Very helpful staff. Well-trained food and beverage staff. Value for money dinner. Excellent traditional food. Two can eat from one meal!

Great breakfasts too.

Amenities are clean and neat, albeit insufficient and cramped!!

After a long day's drive, Wagon Wheel was a great place to stay over. Rooms were spotlessly clean, amenities great and beds very good. Lovely lawn area as well as mini farm yard for kids with rabbits and ducks. I've was readily available and food was good. Prices were very reasonable. Great stay and will definitely stay over again when the opportunity arises.

I have stayed here several times over the last 3 years. It is my stopover from JHB to CT. It's on the main road so you dont have to go off route. The beds are so comfortable, the linen is super, lots of towels, rooms are very clean and of course, there is an aircon in every room with a smallish TV. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and are always quick to assist in any way they can. My only complaint is there are not enough coffee/tea sachets given. The plus is that there is a restaurant with reasonable, inexpensive food on site so after a long drive, you don't have to go off the premises. I always enjoy my stay.........nothing beats the cool, comfy rooms after driving through the Karoo at midday. Super stopover every time.
