Ellerman House is definitely THE place to stay in Capetown. Staff anticipated nearly every whim and responded quickly and professionally for all requests. Nothing was left out. The property is wonderful and beautifully maintained. The art work was beyond belief, its a gallery in its own right. The staff at all levels were warm, friendly, responsive and professional. The tour guides, hotel employees, were highly knowledgeable and great to drive with. We cannot say enough good things about Ellerman house and will defenitely stay there on return to Capetown.

My wife and I recently stayed here to kick off our honeymoon and we are so glad that we did. From the moment we walked in the door everything was exquisitely taken care of. Kylie and the rest of the Ellerman House staff were so attentive and took care of every small detail imaginable.

Room: not enough amazing things can be said about our room. We were upgraded upon arrival to a Deluxe House Room and the shock value on entry is spectacular. The views overlooking Bantry Bay from the private balcony are absurd and the rest of the room is perfectly appointed.

Inclusions: yes, Ellerman House is a splurge, but what you get for the price is absolutely worth it. The “mini” bar in the room is stock with a fantastic selection of local wines and spirits that are completely complimentary. Additionally, all cocktails anywhere on the property are also included (exclusive of their wine selection, which is enormous). They also include a tour of their unbelievable art gallery and a wine tasting with their bartenders, Lovejoy and Fabrice.

Food: the included breakfast spread each morning was fantastic. You can choose to eat in the dining room or in your own room, either way it is a great experience. We also had dinner one night in the restaurant and we’re very happy with everything. Major compliments to the chef and wait staff!

Special thank you to all of the amazing staff at Ellerman House (Kylie, Lindy, Yassir, Fabrice, Lovejoy, Sylvain, Enricco, Issac - I am sure I am forgetting others) you were all amazing.

Ellerman House is probably the finest hotel at which we have stayed during 50+ years of travelling the world. The views from the hotel are wonderful taking in the expanse of Table Bay and the closer view of Seapoint. The facilities are superb, including gym, art gallery ( the hotel has a collection of hundreds of paintings), a Spa and a spectacular contemporary wine cellar. From the moment one arrives, one is welcomed by warm, smart, efficient staff who are always on hand to assist in every way.
For the discerning traveller, this is an experience not to be missed.

We stayed at Ellerman House for one week from 18 January. There are many good things to say about the hotel, but some less so. Firstly, the hotel is beautifully furnished and has the comfort and feeling of a superior English Country House. The many paintings and works of art add a lovely ambience to the place. We had a guided tour of the art collection given by a very pleasant and knowledgeable art expert which was full of interest. Many of the paintings have important historic as well as aesthetic values.
We stayed in a deluxe room with balcony and lovely views of the sea. The room was quite small but careful use of mirrors helped give the room a larger feel. The bathroom was not up to a 5 star hotel standard, and needed updating. The door to the separate loo/toilet did not fit and could not be closed. Paint work was peeling. The large modern bath was uncomfortable, and the water pressure so low it took ages to fill. The toiletries were average quality and there was no enlarge image mirror.
We had dinner at the hotel on four occasions. In the main the food was good but not a great variety. The very ordinary dessert menu (3 items plus cheese) never changed. Although we were told the hotel was full, there was only one other couple dining on two of these occasions, and the lack of others gave a rather soulless atmosphere to the dining experience. However, the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming and very eager to please, which they did. This same very high standard applied to all members of the hotel staff.
The hotel is located high above Bantry Bay on a busy suburban main road with private houses/properties on either side of the small entrance. The gardens are lovely and well kept, but quite small. The hotel is a long walk from the sea front and, although we enjoy walking, were advised not to, whether for safety reasons not sure.
This is a very expensive hotel, perhaps the most in South Africa, so it is right to expect the very highest standards and the review should be judged with this in mind.

Recommended by a well travelled friend and without doubt now happy to recommend this to any reader of the following review.

We stayed for 5 nights in an Ellerman House Suite and would highlight the following:

Location: stunning views overlooking Bantry Bay. About 10mins to transfer to V&A and easy access to both Clifton and Camps Bay. Sitting in the garden, on the terrace, or from your room the sky and sea colours never disappoint

Rooms: the House Suite was stunning, again with fantastic views out to see, although we would be confident all the rooms are beautifully presented

Food and Beverages: wonderful breakfast served on the terraces along with the evening cocktails and canapés. Dinner menu changed daily and whilst there are fantastic restaurants in and around Cape Town we thoroughly enjoyed dinner on the terrace. Lovely treats in the pantry which are difficult to avoid

Facilities: beautiful garden and pool area and we enjoyed the lovely SPA and Treatments, You become mesmerised by the art that is an integral part of the property and it feels like you notice something new every time

The Team: they have an aim to make you feel part of the Ellerman Family and they do not disappoint. They get to know you personally without it being too familiar and you can understand why there are so many returning guests. Housekeeping team were outstanding (easily overlooked) and a huge call out to Marilie and Prince (aka King) who as House Managers helped facilitate the wonderful experience and always seemed to be on hand

And finally just don’t take my word. It was evident whenever asked where we were staying when out and about and responding with Ellerman House the immediate response was always along the lines of ‘wonderful, beautiful, one of if not the best in Cape Town’. We will be returning and have no hesitation in recommending to anyone thinking of visiting

As frequent travelers, we felt most privileged to have stayed at Ellerman House. We were welcomed into a historic Edwardian home renovated and updated to the highest 21st century standards. Our suite overlooking the ocean was exquisite and included a large, well appointed patio. Throughout our seven night stay, we were treated as members of the owner’s family. Ellerman House has the largest collection of African artwork anywhere in the world—a tour by their in-house art expert is a must do. A wine tasting and tour in the the extensive wine cellar by the house sommelier were delightful and informative. The entire staff from reception to housekeeping was excellent and recognized us by name. The chef’s culinary talents were extraordinary...we never had a good reason to go elsewhere for dinner. Cape Town is the epicenter of world class South African wineries. The concierge staff arranged a day tour of several wineries, one of the highlights of our visit. Mr. Paul Bruce-Brand oversees all operations of Ellerman House. If there is a more accomplished general manager in the hospitality business, I don’t know who it would be. Our only regret was not planning a longer visit. H.V. McCoy

The experience of being a guest at Ellerman House is unparalleled. The rooms are so beautifully appointed and the building so graceful and relaxing that you feel like you are in the antithesis of what one might have in mind when you imagine a ‘beach hotel’. The tasteful decor and attention to detail have the effect of complete relaxation for the patron. Nothing is too much effort for both guest and staff. The calm and peace that descends is special and unrivalled.

We found geographically that the hotel was perfectly pitched for both local shops and restaurants, and beach visits.

The kindness and grace with which the hotel offered us a day use room over a very busy period to seamlessly aide our departure preparation for a late flight was something I will never forget. This is going the extra mile on a new level.

This boutique property was so very special, truly a home away from home in Cape Town. We originally booked our Africa trip in 2018 for 2019 but had to postpone it when my mother passed away three days before our planned departure. Ellerman House was so very understanding, and agreed to move our stay to 2020. Of course, then came two years of COVID-19, so we couldn't travel in 2020 or 2021. We finally got to go this year, and it was worth the wait. After 10 days in safari camps, we arrived at Ellerman House after being met at the airport by their driver Aslam. They upgraded us to the fabulous Ellerman Suite, where we were surrounded by amazing original artwork and beautiful ocean views. The staff was so gracious, and Kenny was a standout. We toured the house's art collection and gallery with curator Talita Swarts, who made us much smarter about South African art. She even helped us purchase a piece to have shipped back home. We loved this property and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town.

It is very hard to find fault with any aspects of the Ellerman, but I do wish the TV picture, especially on the SuperSports channel, was better and I do think they could include a house wine option in the included drinks.

The place just oozes quality from the public rooms, the bedrooms, the food and the level of service by each and every member of staff.

I can't wait to return.

If you can afford it, stay there at least once. I am sure you won't be disappointed.,

Hi Yael The restaurant at Ellerman House is open exclusively to guests staying at the hotel. The #3 Creation that was referred to are gift vouchers that people can buy to experience different Relais & Chateaux properties around the world. Ellerman offered these Creation Vouchers during April 2013 - April 2014. We are still a part of Relais & Chateaux but the promotion regarding the Ellerman House vouchers have expired.
