Recommended by a well travelled friend and without doubt now happy to recommend this to any reader of the following review.
We stayed for 5 nights in an Ellerman House Suite and would highlight the following:
Location: stunning views overlooking Bantry Bay. About 10mins to transfer to V&A and easy access to both Clifton and Camps Bay. Sitting in the garden, on the terrace, or from your room the sky and sea colours never disappoint
Rooms: the House Suite was stunning, again with fantastic views out to see, although we would be confident all the rooms are beautifully presented
Food and Beverages: wonderful breakfast served on the terraces along with the evening cocktails and canapés. Dinner menu changed daily and whilst there are fantastic restaurants in and around Cape Town we thoroughly enjoyed dinner on the terrace. Lovely treats in the pantry which are difficult to avoid
Facilities: beautiful garden and pool area and we enjoyed the lovely SPA and Treatments, You become mesmerised by the art that is an integral part of the property and it feels like you notice something new every time
The Team: they have an aim to make you feel part of the Ellerman Family and they do not disappoint. They get to know you personally without it being too familiar and you can understand why there are so many returning guests. Housekeeping team were outstanding (easily overlooked) and a huge call out to Marilie and Prince (aka King) who as House Managers helped facilitate the wonderful experience and always seemed to be on hand
And finally just don’t take my word. It was evident whenever asked where we were staying when out and about and responding with Ellerman House the immediate response was always along the lines of ‘wonderful, beautiful, one of if not the best in Cape Town’. We will be returning and have no hesitation in recommending to anyone thinking of visiting

It was the first stop on our honeymoon. The location is breathtaking, with ocean and sunset views. The interior is designed down to the smallest detail and is rich in art (there is even an art gallery inside the hotel). Price made us feel at home, all the staff were very kind and helpful. Top cuisine and restaurant. Crazy cellar. Clean, well-kept rooms with a huge bed. The rooms were made up often and each time they left us a little something that made us feel pampered (slippers for the night, a chocolate, etc.). We will definitely return and highly recommend it.

We stayed at Ellerman House for one week from 18 January. There are many good things to say about the hotel, but some less so. Firstly, the hotel is beautifully furnished and has the comfort and feeling of a superior English Country House. The many paintings and works of art add a lovely ambience to the place. We had a guided tour of the art collection given by a very pleasant and knowledgeable art expert which was full of interest. Many of the paintings have important historic as well as aesthetic values. We stayed in a deluxe room with balcony and lovely views of the sea. The room was quite small but careful use of mirrors helped give the room a larger feel. The bathroom was not up to a 5 star hotel standard, and needed updating. The door to the separate loo/toilet did not fit and could not be closed. Paint work was peeling. The large modern bath was uncomfortable, and the water pressure so low it took ages to fill. The toiletries were average quality and there was no enlarge image mirror. We had dinner at the hotel on four occasions. In the main the food was good but not a great variety. The very ordinary dessert menu (3 items plus cheese) never changed. Although we were told the hotel was full, there was only one other couple dining on two of these occasions, and the lack of others gave a rather soulless atmosphere to the dining experience. However, the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming and very eager to please, which they did. This same very high standard applied to all members of the hotel staff. The hotel is located high above Bantry Bay on a busy suburban main road with private houses/properties on either side of the small entrance. The gardens are lovely and well kept, but quite small. The hotel is a long walk from the sea front and, although we enjoy walking, were advised not to, whether for safety reasons not sure. This is a very expensive hotel, perhaps the most in South Africa, so it is right to expect the very highest standards and the review should be judged with this in mind.

A visit to Ellerman House today, a typically Cape winter’s day, to the restaurant for our mother/ grandmother’s birthday lunch… Nkosikhayi welcomed and ushered us in from the rain, and Nazlie was expecting us and had our booking in order. Michelle took good care of our table under Nazlie’s professional eye! Our dining experience was heavenly: warm, calm and peaceful with a beautiful view of the wild weather outside. There was no confusion, no mixups, no interruptions, no loud or unecessary intrusions. We so enjoyed the uncomplicated fare prepared to skillfully and beautifully. We especially appreciated being served our delicious desserts in the lounge (lemon pudding was the favourite) - where we could chat, read the newspapers, play cards and admire the beautiful Pierneefs! Seamus hosted us graciously. What a treat to escape to Ellerman House for the afternoon, celebrate our mom’s birthday, and have a respite from the craziness of this world! Thank you for sharing the space with us.

Best property in Cape Town hands down. Absolutely fabulous stay at the Ellerman. Every single staff member knew our names, what drinks we liked, our dietary restrictions, and was always right there to help. The grounds are stunning, a photographer’s paradise! The rooms and common areas are literally a museum filled with a beautifully curated art collection. Our full day tour of the Cape was a highlight (Aslam is the best tour guide we have had, highly recommended)! If you are looking for luxury in Cape Town, look no further!

Where do we even begin? Ellerman House was our last stop on our honeymoon, and we looked into changing our flights to stay another night within minutes of arriving. Prince met us at the door, gave us a tour of the stunning property, and showed us to a beautiful suite that they upgraded us to to celebrate the occasion. After two weeks of exploring South Africa, 24 hours to cozy up at Ellerman House was such a treat. From the art, to the views, to the food and wine (dinner at the restaurant is a must), everything was phenomenal - but nothing beats the staff. Someone is always waiting to bring you just exactly what you need, whether it’s a blanket on the patio or some canapés while you enjoy a cocktail in the bar. And don’t miss a trip to the spa! We planned to just check out and enjoy the property before our late flight, but the staff gave us a complementary room to call home for a few hours so we could freshen up before our long trip home. Just unmatched hospitality. This place is a love letter to South Africa and we can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I recently stayed here to kick off our honeymoon and we are so glad that we did. From the moment we walked in the door everything was exquisitely taken care of. Kylie and the rest of the Ellerman House staff were so attentive and took care of every small detail imaginable.
Room: not enough amazing things can be said about our room. We were upgraded upon arrival to a Deluxe House Room and the shock value on entry is spectacular. The views overlooking Bantry Bay from the private balcony are absurd and the rest of the room is perfectly appointed.
Inclusions: yes, Ellerman House is a splurge, but what you get for the price is absolutely worth it. The “mini” bar in the room is stock with a fantastic selection of local wines and spirits that are completely complimentary. Additionally, all cocktails anywhere on the property are also included (exclusive of their wine selection, which is enormous). They also include a tour of their unbelievable art gallery and a wine tasting with their bartenders, Lovejoy and Fabrice.
Food: the included breakfast spread each morning was fantastic. You can choose to eat in the dining room or in your own room, either way it is a great experience. We also had dinner one night in the restaurant and we’re very happy with everything. Major compliments to the chef and wait staff!
Special thank you to all of the amazing staff at Ellerman House (Kylie, Lindy, Yassir, Fabrice, Lovejoy, Sylvain, Enricco, Issac - I am sure I am forgetting others) you were all amazing.

It all began with the warmest of welcome by Marly! We delighted in the well presented, delicious cuisine and the decadent freshly made treats that not only filled the Ellerman pantry but our tastefully decorated, well appointed, peaceful, spacious and most comfortable room too. Efficient, friendly, personalised service from each and every member of staff, including Chef Gordon, Michelle, Yasser, Dickson and Warren, who all made us feel relaxed and at home. The art tour. with Lindsay, woven in South African history of the largest South African private collection ( a gallery of its own ), was extraordinary. Watching the whales whilst eating breakfast, wine tasting whilst over looking the ocean, a walk down the 500 steps to Clifton beach, recommended by Yolanda, and a night time stroll through the garden all added to our exceptional and unforgettable experience of South African hospitality in the splendour of Ellerman House. If you are looking for a holiday, par excellence, look no further, this is it!

Ellerman House is probably the finest hotel at which we have stayed during 50+ years of travelling the world. The views from the hotel are wonderful taking in the expanse of Table Bay and the closer view of Seapoint. The facilities are superb, including gym, art gallery ( the hotel has a collection of hundreds of paintings), a Spa and a spectacular contemporary wine cellar. From the moment one arrives, one is welcomed by warm, smart, efficient staff who are always on hand to assist in every way. For the discerning traveller, this is an experience not to be missed.

This is like entering your home, but with 6star service and ambience! The location is special and even when all eleven rooms are occupied, the space in the garden, around the pool feels like you are on your own. Service from the Ellerman Team is world class and the art collection around the house gives you that feeling of being at home. A “must” is to visit the wine collection….just amazing. If you want the very best from a boutique Hotel, this really is unbeatable.

House.
The service is second to none. There is a pantry that you can get a wide assortment of food from anytime.
When we were at the pool, the staff brought by snacks and drinks. It is a wonderful place to stay.

Hi Yael
The restaurant at Ellerman House is open exclusively to guests staying at the hotel. The #3 Creation that was referred to are gift vouchers that people can buy to experience different Relais & Chateaux properties around the world.
Ellerman offered these Creation Vouchers during April 2013 - April 2014. We are still a part of Relais & Chateaux but the promotion regarding the Ellerman House vouchers have expired.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
Kind regards
