This is a very special hotel with excellent service, location and access to Cape Town attractions. Staff - Gerard, Yohan and Cloe and team - ensure that no detail that contributes to guest comfort is overlooked. The hotel provides a wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit and cooked breakfast as guests desire. There is also afternoon tea and cake on offer as well as evening hors d'oeuvres and nightcaps with a wide range of wines and spirits - a personal favourite is Amarula. The environment is perfect for couples who seek a private and peaceful environment with great amenities, for example, a good sized pool for lengths or chilling at the end of a day sightseeing with fantastic sea view. Nothing is too much trouble for the Compass House team and we thank you them for a memorable stay.

What an amazing place! Fabulous location and staff. A warm welcome is provided which was very welcome after our long travel.
The rooms are lovely and the hotel has a lovely view, over their infinity pool out to sea. Due to the cool weather we were not wanting to use the pool, but it looked beautiful and welcoming with comfortable seating around.
The room was comfortable with a lovely bed that I didn’t want to get out of. Lovely bath and rain shower. Double sinks stopped any fights for sink and mirror space in the morning. Our room was cold, but as soon as it was mentioned to the staff the heating / cooling system was adjusted and warmth returned.
The staff are brilliant.
The location is very good with easy access to great restaurants, Uber rides or hop on hop off sightseeing bus near.
Breakfast was lovely and the honesty bar well stocked.
Secure parking is available on site.
I would like to have stayed longer and if I weee to return to South Africa I would not hesitate to stay here.

We have just spent a couple of nights at Compass House and cannot recommend it enough. A stunning pool, fantastic views and an incredibly comfortable room all make for a great stay but it is the service that absolutely stands out. Gerard, Johan and the rest of the team make this place feel like home. The warmest of welcomes, an incredible breakfast and lots of small touches that show how much they have thought of everything. Nothing is too much trouble but nor are the team intrusive.
With only a handful of bedrooms, the place feels calm and peaceful. It is definitely boutique and may not be for people who like to be anonymous or who love places like the Four Seasons with multiple F&B offerings however if you need somewhere to relax with the most warm and generous staff Compass House cannot be recommend enough. Thank you for the most wonderful stay!

Compass House was the first stop of our honeymoon where we spent 5 wonderful nights. We were drawn to the hotel due to the fantastic reviews and were very much looking forward to kicking off our trip here.
Location: Located in Bantry Bay, the hotel is very conveniently located to start a hike up Lion's Head and a cheap Uber away from the V&A, Camps Bay and central Cape Town. Note that there are no restaurants or bars that are easily accessed by foot and you will need to drive to eat out.
Property: The hotel is easily accessed by car and has ample parking available. The entire hotel was clean and polished and designed beautifully. The infinity pool has a fantastic view of Bantry Bay and is a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Room: We were in a room that didn't directly overlook the Bay but was beautiful nonetheless and had its own little terrace. The bathroom was lush and well-designed and the room had plenty of storage for our things. We had some issues with the bathroom mirror light not turning off properly but that was eventually fixed.
Service: The staff working at the hotel were always cheerful and responsive to any request that we had. Breakfast was delicious and made with care. We also had the pleasure to meet Olivier who is the owner of the property.
Areas for improvement: Because there are no restaurants in the vicinity, it would be good to have some sort of food / snacks available (for purchase or otherwise) in the evenings. This may not be practical for a COVID environment but would be great to see the hotel implement once bookings go back to normal levels.

Boutique hotel but the photos don’t really do it justice. That’s because you can’t take a photo of service levels that are higher than you could ever imagine. All staff have clearly been steeped in an ethos of friendly and personalised service, with nothing too much trouble. Gerhard and Johan are tremendous but you can tell that even the room cleaner is working to the highest and most discrete standards.
The breakfast (included) is second to none, with lots of personal touches like home made yoghurt and an amazing array of house jams. The pool beds and the pool itself are heaven - tranquil, lovely view and tremendous help-yourself bar for teas, coffees and drinks. They think of everything.
Location is great too. high enough for a view of the sea but only 5 minutes down to the sea-front promenade for a great walk or run to remember. All the sights are within a short Uber ride.

Having had an amazing stay with Compass House a year ago it was a no brainer for us to go back. The first time we stayed we were made to feel like family and when we returned this year we were greeted with a hug, such is the personal feel that Mark and the team provide.
This trip was extra special for us as I proposed to my girlfriend and did so at Compass House! I had planned it for a while and couldn't think of a better place to do it than overlooking the ocean at sunset. I had informed Mark of my plans and he was excellent in helping throughout, even unknowingly to me informing The Test Kitchen (where we went straight to dinner after she said yes) so when we arrived at the restaurant (and most other places we went to over the next week) they all congratulated us and spoiled us which made us feel extra special. When we arrived back at the hotel that night there were flowers and Champagne waiting for us and I have to say the entire night was perfect. Thank you again Mark for helping with this.
In terms of the hotel it is the perfect boutique. The pool area is large with plenty of lovely big double bed style sun loungers so no one feels cramped at all. The breakfast spread is without doubt the best spread I have ever seen at a boutique hotel and the extensiveness, diversity of offering and quality is something you would expect from a 100 person 5* hotel. Our room was amazing (room 3, having seen most in the hotel I would recommend this one best) and the staff and level of personal service really makes this place amazing.
Location is perfect as you are in close proximity (under a 10 min taxi) to the Waterfront, Camps Bay, Table Mountain and everywhere else you would expect to visit, however you get complete peace and tranquillity with very little noise and no worries over security.
As I said in my previous review last year the name Compass House is very apt as it really does feel like a house and makes you feel at home with the warm, friendly and attentive staff, honesty bar and open kitchen.
I also feel this hotel provides very good value for money where other places we have looked at are more expensive and not as good.
Long story short...if you go you will love it!
Mark thank you for everything and we are sorry we didn't manage to come back to meet for a drink. Until next time!

We started our honeymoon trip at this gem! Compass house is truly beautiful, tranquil and peaceful and in the perfect location to access all the things we wanted to do/see in Cape Town. Johan, Cleo, Gerard and Felix were kind and hospitable and offered invaluable advice during our stay, helping us plan our day trips successfully. We enjoyed a great breakfast each morning and the views from our room and the property in general are fabulous. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to visit again in the future!

We have just experienced a 6 night stay at this boutique hotel in Bantry Bay. What a find it was! We have stayed in many of the medium to large 5 star hotels in & around Cape Town & this is by far the best! It has a beautiful setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with a large pool area more spacious than you might expect for a small boutique hotel. The Managers Gerard & Johan provide exceptional, personal service where nothing is too much trouble & staff like Petty make you feel like you are the only guests in the hotel. Beautiful breakfast on the balcony with lots to choose from (try their special take on baked beans!). We had a lovely spacious room, again with a wonderful balcony with sea view. The hotel is well located to explore Cape Town & Camps Bay with a short taxi ride to both. If you are looking for a personal luxuruous experience & debating to go to a large 5 star hotel or something smaller & more boutique, book Compass House - its guaranteed not to disappoint!

We have absolutely loved our stay at Compass House. Johan and Gerard couldn’t have done enough for us. Everything is immaculate here and the views are breathtaking. I particularly loved the breakfasts, the fresh fruit and homemade yoghurt was delicious and my husband loved the freshly made omelettes. A great stay for the end of our 3 week trip to South Africa. Thank you .
