Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We initially booked a retreat for me and my wife at the Sun City Cabanas and were upgraded to Soho due to maintenance repairs. This was during level 2 lockdown and the staff and facilities were well sanitized and catered for social distancing. We had the most beautiful ground floor unit facing the Gary Player golf course and walking distance to the amazing pool surrounded by lazy boy recliners and palm trees. Although most activities were closed, the discounted rate and access to the Palaces pool made up for all of that. Will definately return.

Although some reviews here complained about the service, we must admit we had a very good experience with the service, maybe because we are foreigners (and there were not many non South-Africans when we were there). However the hotel premises needs deep overall renovations, starting from the pool that must be repainted and cleaned from the moss, the elevator that for the whole week we were there was not working, the holes in the corridors ceilings, the bathroom sink that needs opening and cleaning of the pipes (the water went through very very slowly), the sockets that needs to match todays USB ports or att least European/international plugs etc. I highly recommend a room with exit directly to the ground floor. This was something that we enjoyed a lot, but beware of monkeys trying to get into the rooms searching for food. They are very cute but aggressive. Enjoyed a lot waking around the hotel- very nice walking trails through the golf courses and also up the mountain through the forest and the waterpark up until the “Palace” a nice adventure, also for teenagers. The maze is to our experience a little overrated, the food court and restaurants were perfect. the free entrance to the hotel guests to the waterpark is very good for kids as well. The Spa (in the Gray country club) was also not bad. Generally we recommend, but take into account the hotel status does not reflect really a 4 star hotel. due to the renovation needed.

Fantastic views from the rooms and great breakfast. Although not as good as the breakfast at Cabanas. Clean and well maintained rooms and overall a great hotel to stay. Only downside was that the pool was not very clean, which is surprising for a Sun City hotel !. Also it is difficult to get into the hotel parking area which is boomed off. One has to constantly ask a hotel staff member to open the boom every time you have park your car. I waited almost 10 min on one occassion!!..unacceptable. The towels are sometimes not replaced after they service the rooms, and you wait a really long time for any kind of service.

Disappointing service and standards. The standard at sun city dropped significantly for the price you pay. Compared to the old Sun city the money you paid was worth every cent.
We stayed at the cabana. The room was not ready at 2pm check in time. So we were given another room. The tv was not working The toilet door has a loud squeek when you open and close. The toilet and shower were not properly cleaned meaning that the grout on the floor tiles was dirty and the shower has mold in the grout.
Before I booked in at suncity I stay at magaliespark and from there drove straight to suncity so seeing the cleanliness of the suncity bathroom just put me off as magaliespark was absolutely clean.
The breakfast that is served at sun city is so low budget compared to how it was previously. It's just not worth paying that money for a stay.

My hotel room was old and disgusting. My shower had mould and I just wanted to leave. The Cherry restaurant customer service is disgraceful. Staff are rude and unwelcoming. I ordered a vegetarian dish and found a prawn leg in my meal.... let's hope it was a prawn leg and not something else disgusting. Breakfast, tables are dirty, cutlery is dirty. My 72 year old mother was locked out of her room from 10am when we left for breakfast until 7pm as no one knew how to fix her door lock. The key card mechanism was malfunctioning. No apology that my mother had no access to her things for so many hours. Sun City service and facilities are not worth my or your money!

We are on a mission to test different trips to be recommended to other families. First out is Sun City. We booked 4 nights at Cabanas but when we arrived yesterday it was closed (will hopefully be able to check-in there today). When you enter Soho the first (and only thing) you see is the casino. We were given a family room next to the Smoking Casino. Compared to what we have booked at the Cabanas (looking at photos) it felt really dated and it didnt smell nice. We told the reception who gave us another room two levels down, next to the restaurant Sun Terrace and with a glimpse of the pool. This room was equally dated but much bigger and brighter and had a lighter and friendlier feeling. I must also add that the bathroom was superb - large and beautifully renovated. For a late lunch we went to the pool bar and had sandwiches which were good, the kids were afraid of the baboons (one came to our table and took the lemon from a drink) but there were guards to keep them away. The pool and the pool area was really nice until around 5 pm when it started to fill up with people drinking and smoking, even IN the pool. The night was quiet so we all had a good night sleep but now we hope that we can move to Cabanas during the day and get more of the family vacation that we are here for. Will get back with a new review for that hotel!

What a lovely anniversary stay here. Staff were great and the covid standards were quite high. Breakfast was brilliant and the selection was quite nice. The rooms were very cozy and nice. The only downside was the water quality in the shower. All room items including the tv remote and coffees, cups etc were sanitised or replaced completely and it felt very clean and safe.

Wow what a five day experience I had in the fantastic hotel From the time I walked in the reception ladies were awesome as were the porters. I was on the 5th floor facing the casino and no noise in the room at all. The room itself had the best view ever and was spacious as was the bathroom. The internet speed was great and as you walk across the whole property the internet does not lose signal. The breakfast buffet was one off the best ever it had everything to meet your tastes. Loved the casino which along with the hotel was super clean. Every staff member always said hi to you very polite. All in all if your a solo traveller or a couple or family this hotel is great for you at a decent price.

The original main hotel at Sun City, now called the Soho hotel is well established as the 3rd best out of the four hotels in the resort. The location is very good for getting around the resort itself, has very good transfer services from the hotel to get to other parts of the sprawling resort. It holds the only casino ( smoking & non smoking ) in Sun City and also contains some of the very best restaurants in the the resort such as Legends, the Raj and Lily's ( Chinese ). Staff from the reception, front of house, housekeeping & room service are all excellent and give a 5* service. However the only downside these days to the Soho hotel are the rooms themselves. They are starting to look outdated and worn. The rooms certainly need a major renovation sometime soon. I'm sure if it wasn't for the awful pandemic we have all just lived through, this would have already been completed. Let's hope that it won't be too long before the renovations can take place. Apart from that, well done to all the manager's & staff there who do a great job.
