We initially booked a retreat for me and my wife at the Sun City Cabanas and were upgraded to Soho due to maintenance repairs. This was during level 2 lockdown and the staff and facilities were well sanitized and catered for social distancing. We had the most beautiful ground floor unit facing the Gary Player golf course and walking distance to the amazing pool surrounded by lazy boy recliners and palm trees. Although most activities were closed, the discounted rate and access to the Palaces pool made up for all of that. Will definately return.

We booked a luxury family room at the Soho hotel for 4 nights, the sliding door was hard to lock and the room needed some updating, the sleeper couch was hard even the kids were complaining. There was nothing luxury about the room. The hot buffet breakfast needs more staff as the queues at the non-halal eggs station was too long and most days only 1 person was making eggs. The lifts from the floor below ground were not working for the entire duration of our stay and we had to take stairs or use lifts at the other end of the floor which were slow as well. The Hotel’s COVID compliance was impressive though and we enjoyed the valley of waves even though they need to limit the crowds as well.

Fantastic views from the rooms and great breakfast. Although not as good as the breakfast at Cabanas. Clean and well maintained rooms and overall a great hotel to stay. Only downside was that the pool was not very clean, which is surprising for a Sun City hotel !. Also it is difficult to get into the hotel parking area which is boomed off. One has to constantly ask a hotel staff member to open the boom every time you have park your car. I waited almost 10 min on one occassion!!..unacceptable. The towels are sometimes not replaced after they service the rooms, and you wait a really long time for any kind of service.

What a lovely anniversary stay here. Staff were great and the covid standards were quite high. Breakfast was brilliant and the selection was quite nice. The rooms were very cozy and nice.
The only downside was the water quality in the shower. All room items including the tv remote and coffees, cups etc were sanitised or replaced completely and it felt very clean and safe.

Would definitely visit again 🔜

My daughter and I recently visited Sun City for 4 nights. We had booked our stay at the Cabannas. On the day of our departure we were contacted by Sun City to inform us that we had been upgraded to the Soho hotel free of charge.

It was definitely not an upgrade, the lifts of that hotel simply don’t work, we stayed on the 6th floor and more often than not we had to take the stairs up and down because the lift either took too long or simply didn’t respond when we pressed the button. In our room there was no soap, which is ironic during a pandemic. I had to ask 3 times for soap before housekeeping finally delivered our much needed soap. Although the staff were friendly and helpful the standard of the hotel is just not there. The TV had a mind of its own and would sometimes be totally unresponsive from just going to a black screen or simply not working at all, a few times it would be unresponsive that we had to unplug it at the wall.

The rooms in my view need an upgrade, they are outdated and old and quite frankly didn’t feel clean.

I appreciate however, the effort the hotel staff has put in with regards to being Covid friendly in terms of the screening and the facilities in the room and breakfast. This is well done. Staff were helpful and friendly.

In a nutshell, this hotel does not deserve a 4 star rating. In fact, 3 star would be a longshot.

We are on a mission to test different trips to be recommended to other families. First out is Sun City. We booked 4 nights at Cabanas but when we arrived yesterday it was closed (will hopefully be able to check-in there today).
When you enter Soho the first (and only thing) you see is the casino. We were given a family room next to the Smoking Casino. Compared to what we have booked at the Cabanas (looking at photos) it felt really dated and it didnt smell nice. We told the reception who gave us another room two levels down, next to the restaurant Sun Terrace and with a glimpse of the pool. This room was equally dated but much bigger and brighter and had a lighter and friendlier feeling. I must also add that the bathroom was superb - large and beautifully renovated.
For a late lunch we went to the pool bar and had sandwiches which were good, the kids were afraid of the baboons (one came to our table and took the lemon from a drink) but there were guards to keep them away. The pool and the pool area was really nice until around 5 pm when it started to fill up with people drinking and smoking, even IN the pool.
The night was quiet so we all had a good night sleep but now we hope that we can move to Cabanas during the day and get more of the family vacation that we are here for. Will get back with a new review for that hotel!

We were upgraded from the Cabanas because the Airconditioning wasn’t working in our room.

The room was beautiful but the maintenance is clearly an issue. The lifts aren’t working - maintenance were working on that. The spout in the bath was broken and in pieces. You’d think that somebody does a room check before handing over a room to guests, especially a guest that’s threatened to expose these issues on Trio Advisor and other platforms.

Breakfast is a disaster. Expect to queue for at least half an hour to get into the breakfast area. You can then expect another queue once inside waiting for an available table and expect an really long queue at the egg station. There’s a shortage of food and nobody is replenishing or supervising the stations. Don’t bother with a breakfast at any of the Sun City hotels.

Very average and most annoying experience.

Breakfast was a total

Our trip started with a great surprise from Elizabeth to let us we were getting an upgrade. Always a treat if you get these!
Felicia at reception was so helpful in terms of sorting our bookings and room requirements amongst our group of friends.
We loved the music at Legends on the first night and vibe at The Shebeen on the second (and value for money food/ drinks so definitely worth a visit)
Jaw dropping pool at the SOHO and lovely breakfast too.
My tips:
For a treat book sundowner drinks at The Tusk Bar and experience The Palace.
Great lunches but both golf clubs (price and location/ views) unbeatable

I feel the review should be used to help the hotel improve the management during this difficult pandemic. The Soho hotel was not at all a 4 star facility, despite being advertised so, our towels were not replaced, our water was not replaced, rooms were only ready 2-3 hours after the check in time. Information was difficult to come by. Breakfast was chaos to say the least, not well managed at all. If it was a 2 or 3 star facility perhaps these could be overlooked, but after staying in many 4 and 5 star places in my life, this was not at all up to scratch and left me and my family disappointed for spending the money to stay there. We were also not an isolated incident as at one point I stood in a que of people with the same complaints. I do feel sorry for the staff during the pandemic, but a plan should be made.

Very good experience. Our room had a bath and shower, room was spacious. DSTV was available in the room. There was a small refrigerator, there was also a kettle, coffie, tea and milk. I requested for extra coffee, milk and sugar as they only gave two of each. In general the room was clean and in a good condition and we cannot complain about the rooms.

The buffet breakfast in the morning was absolutely excellent and there was a good variety of food, one cannot complain, was very good.

Due to staying at the hotel we had free access to the Valley of the waves and enjoyed most of the weekend there, we enjoyed every moment and had a wonderful time.
