Detailed Reviews
This is a hotel with character.
My wife compared our room to a stateroom on a cruise liner and yes it would not that we have ever beed in a stateroom or a cruise liner for that matter.
Like alot of people i read the reviews bad this unsatisfactory that. Turn out people go back year after year so no it isn’t a glass and stainless city centre 5* hotel and it probably never will be.
Check in wasn’t without problems computer says one thing i say another easily sorted with the email.
Oh when you check in they give you a slip of paper its your room id and proof of stay dont let anyone hold on to it as one or two will try.
I booked a superior room direct with the hotel via their web site and we received a fantastic room on the eleventh floor with all the attributes you expect. A/C, TV, Nespresso coffee maker, kettle, fridge.
Couple things here fridge doesn't feel cold but the milk stayed fresh for 7 days so it must work, its just not beer cold. A/C couldn’t get the temperature below 25’C which was too warm for me.
The lifts are being replaced during 2020 they tell me so i wont make too much of a fuss about them. But they are well past their sell buy date.
Everything else was great, food, staff, breakfast all great. At breakfast their was a chap playing a baby grand piano seemed to always start with a hymn and then nice music all very civilised with reference to a bygone era.
Now i like music but you dont seem to be able to dine without a singer belting out some tunes which for a few days is great but wears thin after a about a week.
Poolside is kept clean no mean task considering
All told great holiday nice place
Enjoyed it

Dear ally1957 Thank you for your patronage and recognition of our value. I and my staff appreciate your kind words. We appreciate your nice comments about our location, comfort and quiet. We endeavor to offer a positive experience for all of our guests. It is gratifying to know when this happens. With regards to the elevators, please be advised that we have had numerous issues with our lifts since the storm damages in December 2018 and our technician have been working around the clock to keep our lifts running however some of the parts have to be imported or brought from Johannesburg hence our breakdowns take longer. The company has decided to replace the old lifts with brand new lifts which will be enclosed in a glass closet to protect the lifts from the rains and storm however still keep the beautiful views of our garden and golf course. I am confident that above will bring Cascades back to its Glory as mentioned below and thank you for your patronage and continuous support. Kind Regards Asanda

Usually the service is very hit and miss, this time around well done. John at breakfast was attentive. Siphiwe who dropped us off at the ocean basket for dinner, was kind enough to offer to collect me when I called him directly. Not once has a driver been so kind when I stayed at the hotel. There is a complimentary vehicle that takes you around the resort. At Sipho, a trainee, at the hotel pool who was quick and efficient with getting us our orders. The hotel room never had a single technical issue apart from the room safe, and the gardens etc were immaculate. Loses one star for no gowns, pens and slippers. The slippers kill me because it is a five star hotel and I really don't want to think that people walk on the bedroom carpeted floors with their shoes.... Thanks to those named staff for making it a wonderful stay despite my daughter killing me with the moaning.

We travel to Sun City quite often. I attended the Nedbank Golf Tournament in November and we were there on various occasions in December 2019 and again for Valentine's weekend. We really enjoy the variety of entertainment on the Resort. The kids always have so much fun as there is so much to do on the Resort. It is save and we, as parents can also relax whilst the kids are having fun. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of entertainment in the various restaurants and venues at Sun City. We enjoyed the most awesome cocktails in Luma with the most amazing singer - on Valentines' Day. His voice and presence (with his red bow tie) had us all talking. From there we went to Bocado for dinner and also experience the most talented female singer. The waiters/staff were extremely friendly - something that we honestly do not experience every time when visiting Sun City. All in all, we had an awesome time at Sun City.

We are currently staying 2 nights in this hotel. Our rooms are 1011 and 1010 and it’s a joke of a hotel. The most run down hotel we have ever stayed in. Staff needs to be retrained in customer services as most of them acts as if they are forced to work here. The amount of money we have paid for 2 nights for this hotel is unbelievable. You have to queue up half hour or more for the breakfast in the morning (okay it’s a busy time but hotel should have a provision for this kind of rush). We had to ask four different waiters to be served hot drinks and again we had to wait half an hour. Hotel does not provide iron and ironing board in every room and you have to request from housekeeping who keeps on calling you several times to be returned back. We have travelled world and have stayed in top luxurious hotel where customer services means everything. We don’t think this hotel should have 5 star status as it’s very deceiving and to be honest certain 3 star hotels are better than this. We so wish we would have stayed somewhere else and not in this hotel.
Whoever is thinking of booking this hotel please think twice as we would highly recommend you find an alternate place to stay. We are not ones to write any reviews and this is our first one so you can imagine how disappointed we would have been staying in this hotel.

Dear Valued Guest Thank you for your comment and for choosing the Cascades Hotel as your preferred lodging facility for your stay at the Sun City Resort. Thank you for bringing to my attention the various points of concern. These have all been noted and I have discussed the issues with the relevant Management concerned who have devised and implemented a remedial plan of action in order to ensure we do not have a recurrence. As part of an international brand which prides itself on service, and front runners in the industry we serve; corrective measures have been devised and implemented to eliminate the possibility of re-occurrence in the near future as excellence is not an accomplishment but is rather a spirit and a never ending process that Hoteliers strive to master. Your comments will help us address the issue you brought to our attention so we can improve our service. We truly appreciate your business and hope you will give us additional opportunities to serve your lodging needs. Kind Regards Asanda

We stayed in rooms 506 and 507. Where do I start with my review.... Most expensive accommodation on my trip for the most disappointing accommodation on my trip. On arrival our greeting from the front desk staff was disgusting we were all made to feel unwelcome and to get information about the resort was painful... almost like starting a fire with no firelighters... on our way to our rooms the staff lift/stairs door was open were there was food scraps and rubbish visible. Then we get our rooms and get disappointed again. The photos used to look us in to deciding to move forward with accommodation did not match the level we received. They were both outdated, the resort book was falling apart and everything was dark lights are a rarity. Room 507 was a non smoking room however I believe it is a smoking room for the cleaners whilst cleaning rooms. Room 506 had damp smell and mould on the roof pictures attached. The to top it all of being on level 5 in the hotel was great if you had lifts that work. They worked occasionally and when they did you were in fear you could get stuck in them. Buffet breakfast we likened to prison food which is below hospital food. On the only positive we had some of the facilities were good.
All in all I think the 5star rating needs to be reviewed as I have stayed in better 3 star accommodation.
Highly disappointing

I was a bit disappointed at the hospitality at the cascades at sun city, it is far from being a 5 star in terms of service. We had a toddler in the room and requested for the sleeper bed to be made when we went out for dinner at about 6 only to return after 9 and it not being made. I dropped my toothbrush and the basin and called the reception requesting one only to be told there is a charge that will be added to my account.
Most if not all 5 star hotels would have a temporary toothbrush in the room with other vanity products to use.
The breakfast spread was decent.

My husband and I are frequent visitors and absolutely love Cascades, but our experience was horrible especially it being our honeymoon. The housekeeping team was fairly rude when asked to clean our room, we are a newly married couple, we wanted our privacy, but that wasn’t taken into consideration. We were quoted 3 times the amount paid for an additional night and told that the hotel was fully booked, when in reality it was empty. I’m quite disappointed that a 5 star hotel, that’s so highly recognized and recommendable could be such a disappointment.

I booked a family room for one night.
The positives were that we were able to check in early and the room was clean. The breakfast was tasty and there was lots of choice. The Valley of Waves was great fun.
The negatives were that the lights and sockets didn’t work in the 1st room so we were moved to another. In the 2nd room, the lights worked but the television was blasting at us and there was no remote to turn it off. We eventually got one after asking 3 different people. We had a family room and we had to phone reception to ask for the sofa bed to be made up. There was no extra linen in the room so we couldn’t do it ourselves. The aircon gave us the same temperature no matter what button we pressed and the room was hot all night.
The lift got stuck between floors so we took the stairs after that.
Overall it was ok, but far from a 5* hotel service and we will try a different Sun City hotel next time.

We stayed the weekend, you will wait between a hour to 1,5 hours to get a table for breakfast. Then there is hardly any service at your table for coffee or tea. This is off course blamed on COVID, but it is unfortunately the staff that can not manage the quests.
The reception staff could do with some training on people skills and it feels like they are doing you a huge favour to assist with anything.
The Hotel is definately not worth 5 stars.
The pool bar is expensive and you pay a heavy premium on Food and drinks.
Valley of the waves is always nice, but there is not enough tubes for rides in peak times, the best is to go before 10 and then after 3 pm, the "sea" is also dirty with all kind of debris floating araound, the same as the real sea.
The zipline features are a must to do.
Only food available is steers, with long waiting time for food. Rather go to restaurant in the entertainment centre.

Currently staying at the cascades hotel in Sun City. I convinced my partner to spend Valentines weekend here because it was so enjoyable the past few times I visited. It was a huge mistake. Things change so much in a year. We paid for 5 star service and got 2 star in return. We changed rooms the minute we checked in because of the bad sewer odor coming from the bathrooms. Staff are not friendly and neither are they accommodating. It was not at all value for money. Very disappointing. We will not be returning
