The Palace is everything and more of what a FIVE STAR hotel should be. The staff, the service (OMG - the food), the organisation of the transport from Palace to wherever you want to go on property is all amazing. Just be aware that in COVID times not all attractions, restaurants and facilities are open. Details and updates are on their website so we arrived aware of what was available. We felt safe as COVID protocols were in place and physical, distancing enforced.
After many visits and wonderful memories the Palace still remains the best holiday experience in SA!! With COVID we expected that service will be different and not what one are used to and so it was. Many services cut down due to low room occupancy. No High Tea servings which was really unfortunate and also no announcement upfront on the website. Breakfast was good as always but can say about 30% of the servings were cut down due to COVID rules. I must congratulate the staff for their excellent way in how most of the food servings were placed in plastic tubs.. Excellent safety measure!!! Just thinking about the packing of these food in the containers make one emotional as you realise COVID is for real... With the limited dinner options available we used more room service than normal. Pool service were not that great but again not nearly the capacity of people that one expects in season. In conclusion... The Palace will always be a number one holiday destination but one also could not get that ''holiday feeling'' with my recent visit. This is purely because of COVID. I truly hope that things will get better soon for us as loyal customers to once again enjoy the palace to its fullest capacity, entertainment and full food and beverage offerings. Keep up the good work See you next year again…
Hotel entrance is spectacular. However having traveled extensively and during Covid decuding to explore locally I must state it's a mere 3 star rooms are dark gloomy bathrooms not 5 star at all!! No robes in rooms which is expected in this kind of hotel. Might look like 5 star entrance but anything else there is 3 stars.
I Stayed at the Palace on the 22nd December. We had to change rooms because the mattress was so worn, the room stank of mold. The service at the pool is non existent. The new room that was given to us , the shower and basin drain just blocked up. The toilets at the pool smelled of sewerage. You pay a lot of money to stay at the palace and Sun International don't care or even try to compensate one. This is the second time i have complained , we also stayed at sun city 24 September and they still have not resolved our complaint. In my opinion Sun city resort has gone to the dogs. Not worth Staying there and paying those rates. The Palace should be regraded to a 1 star hotel. The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment. The restaurant at the Cascades had run out of lemon for the drinks and their coffee machine was broken.…
We booked supper at the Grill Room and were treated to an exceptional dinner experience. The setting was so romantic and grand, with our table outside close to the water, and the pond and open fires adding to the atmosphere. The beef fillet I had and the lamb chops my wife had were among the best we ever had. My fillet was accompanied by crisp flavourful grilled vegetables, a tasty peppercorn basting and a creamy mushroom sauce done just right. The fillet itself was so tender and flavourful I didn't want it to end. The wine (Thelema Shiraz) was a great match. Lastly, I met Mr Robert Brian Phiri, the pianist who was playing such beautiful melodies and harmonies. He is no doubt the friendliest and most amazing pianist any venue could wish for. He first invite our daughter to play something and then played a song together with her. She only started taking lessons recently but the warmth and enthusiasm he showed was so genuine and beautiful to see. Later he volunteered an impromptu lesson in harmony and music theory simply because I showed interest in his playing. Everything together this was a memorable evening that we will cherish for ever. Thank you Grill Room and thank you Mr Phiri.…
