The check in experience and room were/are good. However we have been so disappointed with everything else. We had to phone 5 times for the plug in our bathroom basin to be fixed (five hours later). We had a very negative experience when we went for dinner in the restaurant. There were countless empty tables and we were told it was fully booked and we should have reserved. (We are guests of a so-called 5 star hotel.) After pleading, we were offhandedly told to choose a table. It was impossible to get a glass of champagne, the service was extremely slow and the hamburger my husband ordered was thick, leathery and tasteless. The music at the pool is played so loud it distorts and is not music we would ever choose to listen to. The breakfast, in this time of Covid, was appalling. A long queue up the stairs and then crowds of people with no social distancing at the buffet. By the time we sat at our table outside the breakfast was ice-cold. We eventually met the manager to give feedback on our disappointment in our long awaited and expensive time at the Palace. The first thing he did was to aggressively tell me to put my mask on which I had moved to my chin briefly to fan the sweat off my face. He was far more concerned about that than the crowded, dangerous Covid protocol at the breakfast. Eventually he stopped interrupting us and listened to our concerns. He told us we could have two dinners on the house and some champagne was delivered to our room which showed some customer care which we appreciated. The next morning we ordered room service breakfast. The eggs were leathery and the sausages hard. But the worst was to discover food in the fork. See pic attached. We appreciate that some effort has been made, but unfortunately the whole experience has felt overpriced and unpleasant. Just nowhere near the 5 star experience that we were so anticipating and that The Palace promises.

We have stayed a number of times at the Palace and every stay has been memorable. We had another great stay here, the location, the hotel itself are all fantastic and we throughly recommend it but there are cracks appearing (literally). The maintenance is sadly lacking, our room as an example, the shower head was blocked, the bathrooms were not cleaned very well, the basin stand was moved and it just lacked the attention to detail that we were used to. There is evidence of poor maintenance everywhere, in the ceiling of the Crystal court deck, the stair rails on the grand sweeping staircase are two examples. The rubbish in the beautiful lake around the hotel and the lack of maintenance in the gardens all around were very sad to see. The staff were generally attentive, although service was slow with many standing around chatting (at the Tusk Bar) while we waited to be served, and very slow service for coffees etc at breakfast. We had a great time, these are worrying things that show that there are bigger issues at play here. Sun International has led the hotel industry for its attention to detail, great service and well maintained facilities. Sadly we are seeing a different Sun International that fires a warning shot across the bows for what this resort may look like in 5 years time. We will still go to Sun City, we love it there, but we don’t love the slow, spiralling decline of maintenance and service that seems to worsen each time we go there.

Reading the biased reviews is very concerning, emotive and factually incorrect. Yes Sun City and The Palace were we are staying are recovering from a long lockdown. Challenges are to be expected but they are doing a damm fine job! Attitude of staff and service levels are good. Yes not all facilities and restaurants are open, but we have no overseas visitors and occupancy levels are not where anyone wants them to be. This is a fantastic resort and the prices are very good with great specials on offer. We need this resort in SA it put a new type of tourism on the map for us and will be a great forex earner. Be supportive, be positive Sun City is great just as the late Sol Kerzner wanted it to be. We will be back again and again and tell all our friends and family what a great place this is for young, old, energetic, sporty or just chillax

The rooms are big and big and nicely furnished, but the water pressure and separate hot and cold water taps make it difficult to shower. The service in the two restaurants was indifferent and not representative of a 5-star hotel. The food in the main restaurant was OK, but the lack of wine when ordered was chronic. I eventually got a list from a waitress what's "out of stock" ... pathetic. The "first price" for bad service and bad food goes to THE GRILL room. I had a Springbok shank which looked and smelled absolutely tasty but was very tough to eat. A comment about this to the waitress remained unanswered. Another dish was the "beef tartare". The blob of “matter” on my plate was grey and insipid and had a texture of a pâté rather than the look of a finely chopped, rosé loin of beef. The ‘sous vide’ egg yolk which sat on top of this ground meat made this dish very, very rich to eat and near impossible to swallow with just this sliver of a mini-toast served on the plate. I ordered a garlic bread to have a vessel with which I could eat this dish which for all intents of purposes was ground pork !!! All in all a very unforgettable experience relatively bad for any hotel, more so for a 5-star hotel which charges nearly R 25,000 for 4 nights stay, oh yeah - the breakfast was included, and that was also really good.

Absolutely fabulous hotel to stay. We stayed 16 days and from the Manager, Guest Services Manager to all the staff nothing was too much for them to help make your stay very enjoyable. Lost City golf course 2 minutes away - fabulous course and cheap to boot. Game drives 5 Minutes away with breathtaking views of the wildlife. Will definitely return soon. Thank you one and all at the Palace
