the place needs a serious upkeep. I was not impressed with the family room. the decor is old fashioned. the shower was not great, it gets slippery, you could easily fall. its not a horrible place but needs to be upkept. would I sleep there again? I highly doubt

We are surprised to read the previous reviews. We had some overseas visitors from Manila in the Philipines and because it was their first trip to South Africa we felt it best to have them stay over in a Guest house . So we booked them into Komodo and boy o boy they had a fantastic stay, they could not praise the staff enough with the service and friendliness. Thank you Komodo for giving such a sturling service and made their stay such a memorable adventure!!

Gardens and stoep is great, reception also warm and professional. But the central aircon did not work and the room was very hot and stuffy, and fans is not available in all rooms. I would probably not return to this specific guesthouse.

Were there for a funeral we just needed one night checked in around 5pm. Waited and waited by the gate with no intercom had to call them to open for us.our mistake was to pay before. Well we checked the rooms and went out came back in darkness with no lights or candles or what's so ever we called the manager she acted surprised and said she will come back to us. We called her many times without any luck had to look for an alternative accommodation at 9pm. We left with the keys and sent an sms since she wasn't picking our call anymore. The next day they promised to refund us monday i 've never seen such rude and racist people in my entire life they told us about voting ANC that it's not their responsibility that the lights were off It's our fault we voted ANC we will not going to get our money that's it. That Dominique lady is very unprofessional she needs to go and learn customer care and people' s skills.

A beautiful guest house. I was very well received and catered for. The staff were attentive to my needs, and the food was very good. The place is very well kept and has a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend it.

So this happened to me at Komodo Guesthouse – Rustenburg.

My wife, 3 year old daughter and I booked into the guesthouse on Friday 4 December 2015 and as a musician I needed a comfortable place to stay in between shows. I collected the key at around 18:00 (after a long wait at the gate as there is no intercom) but only arrived at the guesthouse after the show around midnight. I did not spot any security and there was no-one at reception. It was an extremely hot night and entering my room the air conditioner was off and the switch did not work so I couldn’t put it on. The carpets looked like a toddler walked over it with muddy shoes and the towels were old, hard and smelly. There was nothing in the bar fridge – not even a bottle of water. There was also not a pen or paper to leave them a note in the morning and no information pamphlet or anything in the room. I was too exhausted to do anything so I opened the window for some cool air. Right outside my window was a big green dog house with a huge dog scratching himself the whole night. Between a sauna of a room, the mosquitoes and a noisy dog I got absolutely no sleep, and had to leave early to my next show. I was furious to say the least as the room was R1 100. The next morning however was the best.

The manageress on duty greeted me very nicely, but as I started mentioning to her what happened and my concerns with the establishment she immediately started made excuses. Regarding the aircon she said there is an on switch outside my room in (what looks like) a linen cupboard in a hallway. When I asked how I was supposed to know that without any information she said I had to ask the security. I said I didn’t see anyone and she said….”oh well”. On the water issue she just asked if there wasn’t ice in the fridge and I asked what I was supposed to do with ice….she went silent. On the towel issue she said….what do I mean with “old and smelly” – I asked her to stand up and come check, but she remained seated and said…..”oh”. When I mentioned the dog she just laughed.

I was pretty upset and said that I don’t think the price is worth it and what are we going to do about it…. she said I must decide. I told her she is the manager and must tell me, but she said no I must pay what I think it was worth. I said to be fair I think R500 for the use of the bed, water and electricity will be fair and duly paid that. I told her that there are 5 star places out there that charge similar fees and then she said….”next time rather go to a 5 star place”. I laughed and told her sure, she will never see me again and as I walked out she insults me and says…”you are a very unprofessional musician”.

Do not visit this place. The establishment is overpriced and lack everything you need in a guesthouse. The manageress is incompetent, has no people skills and cannot handle conflict or disgruntled guests.

The Komodo Guesthouse is run under the personal supervision of the owner. It is a large property with play-frames etc. for kids. The guesthouse has been recently expanded with another 5 independent ground-floor units. It is situated in an area where the sound of water and birds chirping in the garden is common. The breakfast selection is excellent with more than adequate variation. Although centrally situated the venue is still close to the CBD. A feature is the sense of staff friendliness and eagerness to assist guests. I have been visiting there for 2 days a month for 3 years now and have never been disappointed.

I waited in front of the gate for some time before a lady picked up the phone to let me in. I had to call - no intercom at the gate. no-one offered to help me get my bags and laptop up the very narrow staircase. the rooms share the air conditioning. Room 7 will go and switch it on in the hall way, 5 minutes later someone else will switch it off again. The floors passage floor tiles are dirty, the rooms are boring. No pictures on the wall, windows very small, TV very small, no toilet paper - I had to request a roll. There was no milk (fresh or creamer) in the room. Dirty finger marks on the ceiling. The towels look washed out. Beautiful dining area, but we could not eat dinner there, that is only for breakfast. My food was brought up to my room on a tray. No salt or pepper, no serviette. My dinner was R160 but I had no choice but to eat what they brought up, also had no choice in the fizzy drink they sent along. I don't think I will be back
