Overall, Bakgatla offered a glimpse into the magic of the African bush and provided a platform for valuable family bonding. However, the inconsistent and occasionally unpleasant service in the restaurant significantly impacted our experience. We hope that by highlighting these shortcomings, the resort can address them and ensure future guests enjoy a truly seamless and delightful stay.

We made two bookings for our business and both bookings were canceled at the last minute. We in turn had to make alternative arrangements and disappoint our clients who were obviously not happy with the turn of events.

The Camp is basic, but clean and has everthing you need. It is close to the gate. That is good. Very poor is the Restaurant and is staff there. The meals are of poor quality, no big choice and e.g tomatoes were out from day 2 till the end. Salat was out. From three positions on the prebooked menue. 2 were not available after day one. Another point was the possibilty of getting Gluten free food even thogh that was arranged before. My recommendation: use the Camp and its self catering, do not use the restaurant

It's clear the resort has been run down. There are many maintenance issues and the area are untidy. Its sad as it has so much to offer, enough chalets and large camping area. Our aircon did not work and our fridge did not make cold. We have reported this but with no positive result. Staff was friendly though. We will not return to Bakgatla.

Bakgatla Resort We went camping at Bakgatla resort, in general we had a wonderful time, the camp and swimming pool is well maintained. Maintenance is required as a number of power points in the camping site did not work, we were at camp site 104 and none of the two power points around this site worked. The ablution facilities was generally clean, some taps did not work and it was difficult to flush some of the toilets. We had clean shower with warm water and there was minimal noise except for the generator that was active during load shedding hours. There were not a lot of campers and the evenings was quite and peaceful, no loud music like you get at Manyane Camp. The Pilanesberg in itself is a jewel, the only downside is again the maintenance, the roads both gravel and tar is in bad condition, the toilet facilities at all the viewpoints / lookouts are very dirty and in bad condition and then there is the large number of Game Viewers that take up the best spots at sightings which is a frustration. During hour short weekend visit we did identify 69 bird species, some amazing and first time sightings, birding in the park and camp is generally very good. Concern must be raised about the large number of Indian minors especially in camp. Generally game viewing wasn't the best although we had good sightings of Elephants, twice sightings where rhinos crossed the road in front of us, lion sighting at a giraffe kill, was difficult to see the lions and the traffic was a problem and then we had a wonderful sighting of a leopard and her cub on the Makorwane dam bridge early morning. In general the Park require lots of maintenance, it is sad to see such an amazing park with so much tourism potential is left in the state it is, clearly Local Government don't care and like a number of other Reserves and Parks around South Africa under Government control maintenance in none existing.…

Do not book to camp or to stay in the chalets here. We were robbed in the night and had phones stolen. Security it terrible and management was useless. Can not recommend this resort to anyone. Apparently this has been an issue for a while now, we however were unaware of that.

We arrived on the Thursday at 12PM to a very empty Bakgatla. In the past you would have to book months in advance. We then thought that we are early and around 4pm people will arrive. Well that didn’t happen the whole weekend the camp was around 40% full. The facilities/roads within the camp and in the parks are SHOCKING!! Very run down, no maintenance done for months.. we where In the park last year and have noticed a huge lack of anything been done. The bush is thick as can be expected as there been quite a considerable amount of rain this summer…. But the sparsity of animals has a lot to be questioned??? Have the animals been removed? Poached? Everyone we spoke too questioned this. Grass cutting in the camp was only carried out during last week and on the weekend before Easter Sunday.. then everything stopped…… I’ve posted some picture of a very run down park so disappointed.…

Must be the worst Resort Group (Golden Leopard Resorts) in the world, terrible service. We had a booking for the weekend but apparently due to industrial action the resorts are closed, no one informed us regarding this. They don't answer phone calls or emails. You would turn up at the resort, gates closed and just need to make another plan, you have family from Qatar here ready for camping and a great wildlife experience and then you run into something like this. Very very poor and I would not recommend bookings through Golden Leopard Resorts, it is time that the Northwest Parks Board look into these types of issues and ensure both Manyane and Bakgatla resorts are managed by capable people who can maintain the resorts etc.

We took a Dutch visitor to Pilanesberg and stayed at Bakgatla where we stayed many times over the years, but the COVID scars are vivid. Apart from the roads in the park that needs urgent maintenance, the park was as always stunning, but the accommodation was really in serious need of some maintenance! There was not even a bit of dishwasher soap in the cabin OR THE SHOP! And tiles were breaking loose and the general feeling shabby while the prices were outrageous! Our Dutch visitor was uncharacteristically kind when she called it "vergane glorie"
