Lovely lodge with excellent facilities and an incredible staff - it's a treat. The big five got a bit tedious but if you are a bird lover - good news eventually the rest of the vehicle will get bored of the never ending stream of big five things and stop sighing when you ask to stop for a bird. Some of them will even start to take an interest. The flora is also awesome (the Tamboti forests in particular). Apparently the geology is important - I thought it rocked. Fantastic lodge
We had a fantastic stay at Thlutlwa Safari Lodge in the Black Rhino. 5 Star accommodation the Rooms are beautiful and very spacious . Friendly staff and our Guide Dian and Vickie are amazing .I would definitely recommend This Lodge. Saw the Big 5 And would love to go there again.
My family and I spent an extended weekend at Thutlwa in Black Rhino. We had a wonderful break after the 6 month Covid lockdown. As regular game reserve visitors, we were not disappointed. Dian our ranger, and Vicky, the lodge manager, ensured that our safety and comfort were paramount. Our game viewing experience was excellent, topped by spending time with a family of 5 cheetah. We certainly will return.
We had a great time. We were a familiy of 8 adults and 2 children and we enjoyed the stay tremendously. Dian and Vickie were amazing and were always at hand. The facilities are more than comfortable, with a luxurious feeling, and we enjoyed every minute of it. The lodge is well equipped with anything you could possibly need (and some more) for self catering, including some appliances you probably won't need. Not joking.. we could even bake muffins. We loved it and we'll make sure to recommend it to friends and family!
If you've ever dreamt of having a whole safari lodge in a beautiful park for yourself then Thutlwa is THE place to stay for 8 people. Situated in the Black Rhino Reserve as part of the Pilanesberg National Park Thutlwa is a self-catering lodge. This is high-end self-catering as the lodge provides everything you need - not a single item is missing. So catering for yourself in this exquisite lodge with a very well equipped and large kitchen with dining table, a TV-lounge (not that this is really needed in the bush!!), a reading, a relaxing lounge and an additional bar area (which obviously needs to be managed and "filled" by yourself and you can store all the drinks in all sorts of different fridges): all in the main building. The pool is nicely situated in front of the main building (is also well maintained) and supplements the outside area with a private Boma, Braai and outside kitchen, an outside dinner area with a large table fitting 10 people, outside lounge area and wood fired hot tub! Another highlight for sure is the private water hole which is monitored by a camera with activities transfered to the bar area on a separate screen (so you are always aware if and what is going on outside at the water hole). The 4 separate lodges (bedrooms) which are situated within easy walking distance from the main building are enormously large, stunningly equipped (with all the items you can ever think of), beautiful and spacious in- and outside showers/baths. The environment is very well maintained and clean. Another piece adding to this "wish come true": you have your own guide and can manage safaris as you like. The current ranger (Deon) and his wife Vicky are a fantastic couple and manage the lodge exclusively well! No worries about cleaning: the onsite staff do an amazing job! So in short: in case you are in for a "private safari" this is THE place to go to!…
