I had a lovely experience with the hotel staff, they are very friendly and offered an excellent service. The hotel rooms are clean, spacious but need to be revamped asap. The bathroom was clean but the brown/rusty stains were all over the place.no hairdryer. The service and the food at the restaurant was ok. The food prices are not bad at all.

I had the horrible experience at the spa. The spa facility is up to standard, masseurs very good and the prices reasonable but the receptionist was so rude. The hotel management needs to pay attention at that spa and how they treat their staff and customers. the son of the owner has no respect for customers i was so shocked that in 2017 you still have people who mistreat customers like that. He threw away the food I bought from the hotel, he did not even see that as a problem. He was shouting back telling us that he is the biggest monster in that place and no one can tell him anything. That was the worst experience ever I don't wish for anyone to experience what I experienced at that spa.

Well, you don't have much choice of hotels when you are in Mahikeng. Mmabatho Palms is only one of them. The hotel is quite old (close to 25+ years), however it has been adequately maintained. The entrance to the hotel is quite nice (mini golf course on your left) and a large lobby area. Mmabatho Palms is also quite popular because of the casinos it hosts - these are the oldest Casinos in entire Africa (!), I am told.

We were a large group of 14 people that stayed in this hotel for close to 30 days! It was a mixed feeling - most things about this hotel is quite commendable - which means that the owners left last no stone unturned to make this hotel a destination. However the only stone that was left unturned was the service ! The service (in restaurants, in the reception area, by the housekeeping staff) can be called 'dismal' if I am to be very fair. So much so, that during the middle of our stay, we had to conclude that the whole concept of service was missing from the mind sets of the whole country. I only hope that is not true.

Food quality is very good. No hesitation in admitting that. But be prepared for anything between 60-90 minutes for any dish that you ordered. The only dish that comes really fast (20 mins) is the Beef Burger. For the rest, you can come back safely after a nap.
There is a buffet on breakfast - it's quite good. There is, on most days a buffet on dinner as well, but that's quite exorbitantly priced - R160.
On the ala carte I can suggest - the oxtail. That's the best we had. By far the best oxtail we had in entire South Africa. You can also go for the grilled Kingclip. Mind you, go for it ONLY if you get them grilled (and not fried).

Rooms are nice, but on most rooms either the internet doesn't work or the safe doesn't work. Or both. For internet wifi, try to avoid rooms between 230 to 240. I must also mention that there is a BIG BIG issue regarding the internet coupons too. Didn't happen to me personally, but most of my friends faced this problem - they had their individual 3GB vouchers showing zero data left within a week. This has happened to so an by people. Be careful with your final bills too, as everybody amongst us found expenses that we didn't incur, being charged to us.

I must mention that there is a nice spa in the hotel. Timings are a little odd though - 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday closed. So that leaves only the Saturday to have your spa. But then you need to call and book your spa time at least 5 days in advance.

The hotel arranges free shuttle service within the city, which is really a nice thing.

Stayed in room 215. Arrived at the front desk and found the receptionist busy on an internal call with the restaurant, no interest to acknowledge my presence and after a couple of minutes standing, I finally got attended to. Check-in took around 10-mins, while the very same receptionist was busy engaging on a conversation with a maintenance handyman who was also standing behind the desk. No information given at all about meal times, where the outlets are etc... I was finally given the keys and I had to ask again for directions on how to get to the room. The corridors are an eyesore with dirty carpets, skirting falling off and cobwebs. Got to the room and you find all the visible signs that no one on management level has checked the room. No hand towels in the bathroom, shower head clogged with lime scale, bath tub with permanent stains, grouting on the tiles coming off, balcony full of bird dropping and more. No turn down service provided. The beds were comfortable and the linen clean. Breakfast is average, nothing exciting on the buffet and at least the staff were friendly.

On 11 October 2020 my friends decided to surprise my husband and I with a surprise breakaway night for our anniversary. We were extremely excited as they had even organized babysitting for my 2 an 4 year old children. When we arrived at the hotel reception we were met with staff who were not even friendly. A total lack of interest shown to us.
We decided to gamble for a bit.
When we got to our room,we were really met with a surprise. Never in my life have I ever been so disgusted. The room was filthy. The previous persons half eaten T-bone steak was still in the room. I cannot imagine what I would have found in the bed had I been that adventurous to open it.The bed was not even made up!!!! My poor husband was shocked as we had previously had some awesome stays. As this was the place of ou first date 15 years back.
We went to reception desk to complain, and they offered us another room. We refused this as we had already been so disgusted by what we had experienced. We were given a refund and later a manager phoned me. I
told her I was too upset to talk and she said she would phone me the next day. I'm still waiting for the call till today. With the service received by the staff of Mmabatho Palms this should be a guest house and not deserving of a 4 star rating.
In these times of CoVid one risks their lives by merely going out, and then to be subjected to this kind of filth is just atrocious.
The lack of security makes one wonder how safe are we. Will my car still be there in the morning? We even saw people sitting in their car drinking. How is this supposed to make us feel like we are at a 4 star hotel.
Having lived in Mafikeng for 23 years we have never experienced anything so shocking and disgusting!!!!

Having stayed at several locations in Mafikeng for business purposes, I found myself booked in at the Palms Casino and Resort. Here is a list of issues:
1. Smell of excrement EVERYWHERE
2. Continuous electrical power failures unrelated to Eskom load shedding
3. My colleague was booked into a room already occupied by someone else
4. No wifi - this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel
5. Room entry cards never work - so you have to walk down to the lobby to have it repaired all the time
6. Pumping of sewage drains at 22:00 on hotel premises

This place is a nightmare. It is not a 4 star hotel. It is a disgrace. Stay somewhere else.

I love it honestly love love love it.

The Mmabatho Palms Hotel Casino Convention Resort is in the capital city of South Africa's Northwest Province, Mafikeng, approximately a three hours drive from Johannesburg. The resort offers four-star luxury in both the accommodation and the facilities on offer, while the service is professional, attentive and friendly.

The hotel is situated within easy reach of numerous places of interest and also lends itself to plenty of activity and relaxation options onsite. This Peermont resort in South Africa offers a variety of sports and recreational facilities to its guests which can be enjoyed by adults and children. Visitors enjoy access to the casino, restaurants, and conference facilities as well as the use of the adjacent 18-hole championship Leopard Park Golf Course. There are a total of 150 rooms, including 73 Classic, 28 Deluxe, 24 Luxury, 3 Executive Rooms, 3 Suites, a Presidential Suite and one Special Assistance room."

Very poor service. Worst hotel we ever stayed at. Maintenance room was given and despite them changing our room the shower still wasn't working. Asked them to compensate us with breakfast due to a lousy experience but we were denied! Left without showering or breakfast.

I have stayed at this hotel a number of occasions in the past and have found it to be an average establishment that I use as a hotel of last resort.
My last stay on the 23rd March 2017 at this hotel was the worst one ever considering that I booked a junior suite!
I checked into the room and was shortly beset by the same problems that I previously experienced, namely, that the card key suddenly stopped working. The maintenance guy was soon there to fix it and the aircon that was not working in the lounge area; I must add that the hotel provides only one remote unit to operate individual aircons in the lounge area and the bedroom.
The maintenance guy informed me that he needs to reset the aircon from downstairs and was never ever seen again despite numerous calls and a visit to the reception.
I decided to enjoy the balcony that room 301 offers but soon returned to the room as there were cigarette buds still lurking in the uncleaned ashtray in the verandah.
The lounge area was also not hygienic with the dirtiest ever rug sprawled close to the sofas.
While the hotel may be an old establishment, far older hotels are doing much better than this one in terms of cleanliness and customer service & care; the reception staff remains ever friendly and smiling.
Personally, I’d rather spend a night in my car in the hotel parking lot than to be exposed to DNA from previous guests!
