The hosts are extremely kind and generous and it is just as all the other reviews indicated. The room is lovely, clean and spacious with coffee, tea, and biscuits as well as a fridge. The breakfast is tasteful and you even receive a packet for lunch. They even accommodated my guest for breakfast - eventhough there was no obligation on them to do so. They aso prepared a tray with cutlery that I can use for dinner. My colleagues who stayed at this place earlier this year, had exactly the same positive experience. I can really recommend this lodge for anyone who has to work in or travel through Mahikeng on their way to the border or from the border - and Mahikeng is really not such a bad place as former reviewers had it. It has malls and most probably more shops than many other towns and the people of Mahikeng are very friendly. You can use the microwave in the kitchen to warm any food you may buy or you can use the barbecue facilities for food. There are also restaurants in town where you can find dinner if you do not want to eat take out.

The owners of Ashden Lodge could give a masterclass in how to operate a hospitality facility in the service industry. It is absolutely deserving of its unblemished five star exceptional rating. If it was located anywhere else on earth the accolades would be numerous. Against all the laws of physics, Jenny and Dessie perform an exceptional service. Ashden is an oasis in an area that could be a set for a Mad Max movie. The rooms and quality are comfortable and beautifully maintained. The breakfasts fit for several kings and their entire household. Their care for guests welfare - above and beyond the call of duty. But to cap it all the sheer old fashioned trust in their fellow man. I adored it. Every last detail. And if it was not in one of the worst parts of Africa that I have ever witnessed, I would stay nowhere else!!

Who visits Mahikeng I wonder? One needs a special reason. Interesting as the location is, its history is neglected as is the town..So, if one goes, one wants somewhere special to stay and Ashden Lodge is it! Built like a top grade game lodge and right next to the Mahikeng game reserve, it has spacious lawns, trees and even the owner's classic cars. The rooms are large and comfortable with spacious bathrooms, fridge, aircon and anything you request of Jenny Hopkins the most accomplished and warmest hostess. Ashden Lodge is B&B only but offers a breakfast to last you all day with any extras you want - steak, chops, you name it. Fill the fridge with your own lunch and supper to eat on the lawn of veranda table and just ask for a barbecue to be prepared for you to cook your meat on your porch. Most of all, go there to spend time and get warmth from Jenny.

I have just spent a delightful weekend at Ashden Lodge. The hosts, Jenny and Dizzie went out of there way to make us feel at home. Gary took us for a drive at the local game reserve where we fortunate to see beautiful specimens of kudu, impala, zebra, buffalo, warthog, gemsbok, red hartebees and springbok etc. A great weekend in all. The hearty breakfast was a real winner. A nice touch was the tea and coffee and rusks in the rooms. A chocolate on the pillow at night. I can highly recommend this oasis in the "desert".
