Reasonable Guest House. Quite basic but adequate, dinner available on request, large grounds and a pool, outside smoking areas, secure compound, Rand Airport nearby has a good restaurant bar. Journey time from O R Tambo International Airport about 25 minutes.

a granite bathroom top and a AA rating of whatever nature does not equal good value for money
price on website with current unknown link is +- R200.00 less than actual price
high price is to "keep out unwanted elements" as per owner - what about "we are fully booked?"
reception = average
room = good quality furniture, room a bit claustrophobic - no place to "unwind" except you bed - tv at awkward position high up at ceiling - aircon perfect - fridge a nice touch
bathroom = spacious and neat

no recommendation (or Mr Dilevery) were found in room as to where to obtain a decent dinner (not a buger or take away chicken) in a strange town / city

breakfast at sunroom = 3 big tables seating for 6 each - only 2 were prepared - 1 was occupied and although the other was unoccupied, not all evedince of previous diner were removed - placement of food on 3 seperate severing tables not in a common area - have to walk all over the breakfast room.
breakfast = considering the rating and the price for B&B this was most disappointing - orange juice and cerial and yogurt on one serving table, bread and toaster on another serving table, coffee on another serving table and 'buffet' on another serving table. At time of serving from the buffet there were 3 bowls with the following to choose from (and only this) - 2 baked eggs or half portion scrabled eggs, 2 rashers of bacon and 5 fish fingers!!!!!!!

I did confront the manager/owner regarding price and she immediately offered reimbursement on my credit card - after a long day (travelling from Pretoria/Johannesburg and still do you more than 8 hours of work) I did not wish to 'drive and search" for alternative accommodation.

Recommend this establishment to somebody else?
Definately not

The Guest house is well situated, unfortunately at the end of a road full of potholes - this seems to be the norm in the area.

The room was well appointed and furnished with comfortable twin beds. Nice bathroom, but the shower is very small, and the water is lukewarm at best.

Breakfast was good.

Some maintenance issues including mould in the shower and stains on the carpet.

In general a comfortable stay

Value for money?
The place doesn't respect their customers. People who work there they are not professional period. They even wanted me to share with my colleague in one room. I just felt so disrespected.

No hospitality whatsoever they are just terrible people.

When we arrived the owner, was shouting over the phone. Did not even explain why she behaved this way. Did not greet us friendly. Expected of us to pay a higher amount that advertised on the web. Very disappointing. We arrived at 19h00 after a business meeting and had no option but to overnight. No indication if the area had a restuarant. Did not find something to eat before going to bed. Had problems with the angle of the TV. Bathroom was uncomfortable, the bed was hard, the breakfast orange juice and youghurt and egg not good. Asked if I could get oatmeal porridge, but was told they don't serve it. Did not appreciate to share a table with strangers in the sun room for breakfast. AA rating was not helpful as it was advertised as a four star.Could the owner not cater for business persons and add separate smaller tables. Could the food not be prepared in a room closer to the sun room. Cold food is not nice when you have not eaten the night before.

We are frequent travellers and this B&B does not compare to the expected standard.How on earth did they acquire such a high 4 rating. Breakfast was terrible(cold and raw). The bedroom was not clean. The towels was dirty.

When asking the lady owner about the standard, and the higher rates she said we must leave. Will never recommend this guesthouse to anyone and will not book there again.

Having travelled for just over three hours on the road I arrived at Lion's Rest Guest House just before 19h00, and was greeted by the host who did not smile or even show any hospitality. The room including the bathroom was tastefully decorated with high quality furnishings. I personally found the television (which was mounted) to be located at an awkward angle, resulting in my having to almost lie flat on my back to watch television. The bathroom was spacious and contained both a bath and a shower.

The room in which breakfast is served, contains two large tables, and guests need to find a space to sit around the tables, as these are the only tables in the dining room. Although juice, yoghurt and coffee are available for self-service, the hot breakfast is prepared in the main house (a separate building) and your food is brought to the breakfast room. I would like to suggest that the owners possible think about purchasing additional small individual tables for those guests who would prefer sitting alone - especially for morning breakfast. (They do not serve dinner). Also consider adding on a small room for preparing breakfast - to avoid the transfer of food from one building to the next.

I personally would be exploring other options if ever I would need to stay in this town again.

Stayed 3 nights; nice room, free wifi, working aircon (Mafikeng weather was unbearably hot).
Owner friendly and willing to assist; even when I arrived 3 hours late, and at a very late hour. Staff polite.

Arriving late in Mafikeng from Botswana we needed a place to stay, convenient to an eatery. Lions Rest is just before the Protea Hotel, and not far from a shopping mall with a Spur, Ocean Basket etc. The owner was very helpful when we arrived, even gave a second room key to us for our friends who were lost en route and might or might not turn up! Rooms were adequate and breakfast very good. Thank you to the owner for her kindness.

We stayed two nights. Our room was by the pool, large and comfortable. Excellent breakfast and very good wifi. Across the road was a service station for drinks and snacks. Staff were helpful and friendly.

We had to find accommodation at about 23h00 in Mafikeng, so it was good that they opened the doors for us without having a prior booking at that time.
Check in was quite routine with nothing being out of the ordinary for that hour.
The rooms were fair, supplied with a wall mounted tv, single couch and table and of course the bed, which was comfortable.
The bathroom had a separate bath and shower, but the door struggled to close and open as it was some effort to maneuver.
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment as it was cold (eggs and bacon) and we had to find our own cutlery as the table had not been set.
Met both owners during our check out who were friendly, despite having had only a few hours of sleep due to our late night check in.
