We have been staying in this Guest House for years every time we go to Upington. The owners are very kind and always helpful. The rooms are huge, clean and with a wonderful view of the river. What about breakfast, just fantastic. One really feels at home!

We stayed for one night on our trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town (the long way round!) and found it efficient, clean and well priced. The breakfast was good and the room, while basic, was airconditioned - Wifi was throughout and the view of the river was special.

As soon as you enter the property you are aware that you are going to stay in a special place. The garden is superbly tended and everything looks well maintained within a picture perfect riverside setting. And it gets better and better.
LOCATION: Within walking distance to shops and the town centre on the banks of a very pretty section of the Orange River. There is shaded secure parking inside the premises.
STAFF: Owned and run by Magda and Pieter King in a very hands-on manner. They are extremely hospitable capable hosts and very knowledgeable about the town and greater area. The actual staff, from the gardeners to the cleaners were polite and friendly.
ROOMS: Spacious and well appointed. We occupied room no. 3, at the end of the passage with a lovely patio and view of the river. The beds were divine and the aircon worked efficiently. There is a tea/coffee tray with kettle and the bathroom offers dispenser type soaps and creams. The rooms also have a little bar fridge which worked well to keep our beers icy cold. Being at the end of the passage, the hot water for showering took an awfully long time to get to our room! One is just about to give up, feeling guilty about wasting so much of this precious South African commodity, when voila; piping hot water comes gushing through!
BREAKFAST: Beyond the expectations of most of us. Magda herself prepares the breakfast offering a wonderful assortment of fruits, yoghurts, juices, cereals, cheeses, cold meats/salads, breads and bakes including a wonderfully varied hot bacon and eggs type spread.
GENERAL: We stayed a couple of days and felt really chuffed with ourselves for having decided to stay at Affinity. Try it – it’s worth it!

We slept over from our trip from Namibia. Didn't have hot water to shower the evening we got there, nor the next morning. They did offer me to have a shower down stairs as there was hot water. Sorry, I am no snob, I have been camping for two weeks in Namibia. If I book a Guesthouse, I expect one. If I wanted to camp or stay in a Backpacker's, I would have done so. They have my number, no apology of any kind.
Beautiful place...its a shame.

How not to do it. Mass market appeal without anys sense of hospitality. Got stuck in a kak room with an interleading locked door and the sheets and bedding looked like it was 10 years old with stains. Breakfats from 7am to 8am or you miss out. Vibe was couldn`t care less. Make the right choice to leave and not stay. Possibly the worst value in town I would imagine.

The Affinity Guest House is a great guest house overlooking the Orange River and right next to the town centre (walking distance).

Large and comfortable rooms of which some overlook the river, great river view from the shared balcony. They have comfortable bedrooms with study table, air conditioning and private shower facility. Limited number of DSTV television channels. There are 27 rooms in total.

The breakfast is something really special and certainly to a quality standard not often seen in private guest houses. Various fresh fruits, variety of cereals, continental breakfast options as well as a hot buffet with eggs and meats to choose from. The dining room overlooks the Orange River and you simply cannot ask for a better way to start your day! The owners are personally involved with the breakfast.

The first floor has a beautiful open balcony overlooking the river - great for relaxing after work.

Perhaps the only small issue is the very limited wireless internet service at certain times of the day (duration, volume capped). Hope this can be resolved, especially for business travellers that don't need high data volumes but have to check emails, etc frequently!

The owner personally fetched as at the local airport, which is relatively close-by.

This Guest House is absolutely recommended and I will certainly come back again!

Stunning location on the Orange River. The sunsets are beautiful. Safe and secure parking. The rooms are large and very comfortable with all the amenities required. The breakfast is excellent. Highly recommended as a stop over. This was our third stay here and we will be back.

We recently travelled from Lime Acres to Augrabies Falls National Park with my father and his wife; upon our drive back home we spent the night at Affinity Guesthouse in Upington (apparently my father has spent a night there on numerous occasions in the past; it is his preferred accommodation in Upington). Our room had an amazing river view; the room was spacious and clean. The free WiFi (however slow) was a welcome surprise. Breakfast was delicious with a relatively large variety of options to choose from (although time for breakfast was rather early, only between 7-8am). We had a comfortable one-night stay.

My husband and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon road trip through South Africa. My husband has stayed here before, while working and he loves it. Magda was so friendly and welcoming. The room had an amazing view over the river and was very comfortable. I'll definitely be back :-)

We have stayed here before but keep coming back when we visit Upington as it is consistently good. The staff are pleasant, rooms are very good and clean and breakfasts excellent - what more could one need? We always try and arrive early so that we can spend a peaceful afternoon on the verandah overlooking the river.
