This is one of the best of all wilderness camps. These are well managed by Jacques. He goes the extra mile to keep the chalets, set on stilts, in a Beautiful condition. Views of the water hole where there is often game drinking is a great site. We had a midnight visit of a black mane, male lion. Roaring on his way to the water and departing in the opposite direction. If you can, plan a visit to Urikaruus.

After trying to get into Urikaruus for almost 2 years, we finally managed to get 1 night into our 10 night trip.
What a pleasure!
The cabins are so comfortable and even though it was 40°C it was cool inside and alot of shade over our veranda.
The waterhole was bustling with activity.
We feel very blessed to have finally experienced the top rated camp 🙌

It is a real treat to stay here and never disappoints. Been so close to a waterhole for the entire day is such a treat. Leopard came under our chalet at night on his way to drink. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Very comfortable rooms

This must be the number-1 wilderness camp in the Kgalagadi. It's just you, 3 neighbours and your own private waterhole with amazing animal sightings, day and night.

The waterhole is just 50 meters from the cabins so photography is great from this camp.

We rated sleep quality as 'poor' as we don't get much sleep at this camp due to the constant flow of animals all night! Lions, leopards (a rare sighting), caracal, cheetahs, brown hyenas, spotted hyenas and so on. We spend most of the night jumping up to photograph these subjects when we hear them, but we love it!!

I echo what's been said before - this is a great wilderness camp with the best facility of being able to sit on the deck and watch the game at the waterhole. I would say the best chalets will be No. 2 and no. 3 as it is right in front of the waterhole. I cannot add more than Rob S has described below but Ill confirm that it is as nice as it sounds. One morning a lion walked up to the waterhole around 715am while everyone was having breakfast on the deck. There are also 'resident' hornbills and mongoose around the chalets.

This is the only wilderness camp in this part of the auob river. The construction is funny and only for people which have no problem to climb stairs (one up to the kitchen unit, one furhter up to the bedroom). Bedroom with bath are very comfortable, including fan (!) considering the location and the price you pay for it. Kitchen is a separate cubicle, with a rised plattform and braai. Good view onto the waterhole, which is a favoruite place for giraffes (up to 15 at once). On early morning and evening game drives you are very often alone for many miles around. Only 4 units.

This is off the Auob valley in a prime game viewing area. A local hyena den nearby and excellent chances of cheetah and lion.
Its built on stilts, utterly charming although the wood construction does retain the heat and let it out at night. Seperate kitchen/ balcony and bedroom/bathroom on different levels, all great fun. Nice eating out area with braai overlooking a busy waterhole. Close to watehole and well lit. Kitchen even has a gas toaster. All gas of course here. The fridges struggle at 41C.
Interconnecting walkways mean until you want to drive out your feet never touch the ground.
Yes its really good but book early. V popular

We have been to Urikaruus before and had great game viewings. This time we weren’t so lucky but we will be back. In terms of amenities the cabin is comfortable, although very cold in June at night as no heating. We landed up sleeping in many layers including down jackets! A highlight was an owl in a tree a meter from our balcony. It sat in the tree the whole day as we watched it and it watched us.

I was lucky enough to snag someone's cancellation and we were staying at Uri for one night during our first time ever in the Kgalagadi. We really enjoyed our stay even though we hardly got any sleep thanks to three males and a female lion. There was such loud roaring going on that it seem to shake our cabin and we woke several times during the night. We were thrilled to watch all the cat action at the waterhole and behind the boardwalk. One lion kept roaring loudly all the while walking straight up from the waterhole towards our cabin, then stopping to look up at us Or though it seemed. Very eerie and a fantastic way to lose sleep. At one point, I woke up again then just kneeled up in bed spotting a huge male drinking at the waterhole. My husband had installed a motion sensor on his camera and in the morning it showed a few shots with three males and a female drinking at night.
The cabin is very simply furnished, but has everything you need, including plenty of hot water in a private bathroom and a comfy bed all things we enjoyed after camping in public campgrounds. Highly recommend staying at Urikaruus as it epitomized for us the "wild" in wilderness cabin. Thanks, sanparks, for the experience.
