Unfortunately very disappointed in our rooms. Very strong smell of cigarets, carpets sticky, furniture very second hand with the exception of the beds which were new and comfortable.
The bathrooms only just passed with black mould along the tiles, toilet seat broken and very minimal pressure in the shower.
I think if you were lucky enough to stay in one of the new rooms it would be better.
Tiles broken everywhere in walkways and the main entrance.
This should not be advertised as luxury if all rooms are not up to standard.
The hotels only saving grace is the excellent pub next door “The Hussar Grill” which offered a very extensive menu

Being a national tourist guide and co-owner at Madikela Tours the history, charm and location of The Halfway House Hotel appealed to us. The rooms are recently refurbish and gives a great impression. Staying two nights make one realize that it needs a few finishing touches though.
The food in the bar downstairs is great, but it seems indirectly smoking is highly promoted. Throughout the day one can see staff members in uniform sitting in the court yard take a smoke break. In the " non smoking" lounge there are no tables available to eat at. For a sit down meal one will have to sit at a table within the smoking area. Having breakfast the first morning I also noticed a gentleman smoking in the kitchen wile preparing coffee. When I asked one of the personnel if I a am seeing correctly she nonchalant replied that he is the owner and the matter was ignored. Needless to say we cancelled breakfast for the next morning.
The noise levels are high and continue late inti the night( Friday).this makes it difficult to get a good nights rest. Having to travel 400-500km the next day makes me think that, even though Halfway House Hotel has got so much appeal, it is not suitable for our clients.

The restaurant was recommended by our guest house owner and we had no regrets. We had the ribs which were more than filling for 2 people, whilst waiting for the food we had a chat with the locals and we sensed a great community vibe there. The food was delicious with large portions!

It's disappointing too drive a long road and arrive and find the hotel entrance is over a 100 meters round the corner with no information. It's a beautiful place on first sight. Rooms are beautiful and big. Just 'a pity there are no work station to work on. If you have to work on a computer it's not easy sitting on the bed.

Was disappointed to see a 4 star hotel with no flat sheet on the bed. Was also very disappointed the next morning to see the state of the wall in front of my room. Paint / plaster coming off. The garden also can do with some cleaning up. Also a very bad smell coming from the shower drain.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The bed in the room was very comfortable. The extraction fan in the bathroom makes a lot of noise when putting it on and off. Cleaning staff need some training. Lots of dust in the room.

With seating outside your bathroom window you have lot's of noise as well. Not great rooms by reception.

Management need to catch a wake up

I would not recommend this hotel. The rooms have no window or ventilation. Maintenance is lacking, door handles broken etc. The rooms lead onto a very noisy passage, guests arrive late making a noise, limited privacy, thin walls ? We really did not enjoy our stay as a family of 5. Reviews are mixed, I did check before booking, I knew there was risk it would disappoint, and it did. The night watchman was good, did his job well.

Totally disappointing! Its not a four star Hotel. The room rate with 1800R is much too high as there was no Wifi available, no TV signal, no hot water, no hairdryer, very weak Airco,no Fan as discribed in booking.com, no cosmetic wipes and the pool was dirty as there was no maintenance available as the reception told us. Forget it to stay here.

My go to accommodation place when it comes to Traveling to Kimberley. It's my home away from home and all the staff members and owner makes you feel at home. Great service and a few restaurants on premises to choose from for dinner when staying there.

I confirmed my booking with the establishment on 6 Nov. I asked them then if I need to pay a deposit and the answer was no, we could pay when we get there. Got there (all the way from Keetmanshoop) on 3 January 2015 and found out that they cancelled our booking. We were tired and have two small children. I asked them why they cancelled the booking (as I surely didn't) and they couldn't answer. They also couldn't help us with other accommodation. We got in car and drove to Bloemfontein and found accommodation on the way. When I got back to office on 6 January, I found e-mails from the establishment sent on 29/12/2014 asking to confirm my booking? This is unacceptable, as I confirmed the booking on 6 Nov (have te proof) and told them I was going to Namibia for holiday. Why would I then be able to answer e-mails send in my absence? I am sorry, but I will never recommend this place to anybody!

Stayed in the honeymoon suite, large and comfortable. However, hardly slept with the noise from cars parked outside by patrons from the bar. Also had ladies of the night knocking on our door till 2:30 am!

Great rooms, but don't try and sleep there. You will hear drunk people till 4 o clock in the morning fighting, screaming, spinning their cars and laughing. I think they should decide between hotel or a nightclub. Very disappointing.
