WELCOME TO THOKOZANI LODGE We are offering accommodation in charming houses nestled in a subtropical garden with huge old trees. Enjoy a drink on the terrace while watching the sunset or sit under the stars and listen to the sound of the bush crickets or the call of the wood owl. As a native German, I bought the Thokozani Lodge with my wife back in 2009 and we emigrated directly to South Africa. In previous years, we explored Southern Africa extensively, by travelled through Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. Through our experience with the cultures and the beauty of the Fauna and Flora we took the decision, to make South Africa our new home. We can now, enjoy the nature and wildlife at our doorstep close to the Kruger National Park. The Thokozani Lodge was built in the typical African architectural design with thatch roof in 1926. The Jatinga street where the lodge is situated, was named after the English officer’s that settled down after finishing their service in India. The lodge was built in a crescent shape and was known as the “halfmoon cottage”. Through the years numerous renovations was done, but the old charm has not been lost. All of the rooms and the stoep areas, are facing West, to assure a beautiful sunset.

Detailed Reviews
The host is very welcoming. He shared recommendations for places to visit and provided a detailed booklet of how the electronics in the room work, as well as a comprehensive list of places to visit and routes to explore. The room is cleaned every day and has a very practical layout: plugs in all the right places, enough cupboard space, variation in lighting. It also has a beautiful outdoor braai and sitting area. Lovely for a sunset chill in the summer.

We spent 3 weeks at Thokozani Lodge. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the subtropical complex (like a little paradise) and the accommodation. The bungalows are beautifully furnished with lots of ambience, super clean. The service is unbeatable in general. The bungalow is cleaned every day, towels and bed linen are changed frequently, there is a coffee and tea bar in the room. The water is even safe to drink from the tap, which we have never experienced in Africa before. The owner is very nice, you can always come with questions. It was a great help for us to get helpful tips from him and to plan certain tours, such as safaris, through him. It was a fantastic time for us.

My wife & I were pleased to break away from the demanding life back home, as we thought about booking in December though having the booking made in January worked best.
I truly appreciate the calm environment of the Lodge. It's exactly what a person looks for in a getaway trip.
The pool was fun to swim & move about in, temperatures were ideal (not too cold at time, nor too warm)
The only suggestions I might have for a future stay is perhaps including a cloth & a small broom in the rooms, to help us as guests to keep the units clean rather than only expecting that from the Lodge's room service team.
My only difficulty was connecting to Netflix during our first night. Though it's nothing to be concerned about. As everything else of my stay played out beautifully.
I definitely appreciate the hosting of myself & my wife for the weekend. I could definitely picture another visit, perhaps regular visits as well

Absolutely beautiful accommodation and awesome owner, the cleanest accommodation I've booked in years. There's nothing lacking, everything you need you will find. Everything works which is becoming increasingly rare to find these days. Holger is professional but at the same time tendering to his guests with genuine care

We stayed at Thokozani in August to visit Kruger Nationalpark. The lodge and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable. Holger is a perfect host with an open ear for questions and great suggestions for day trips in the area, for example the Panorama Route. Kruger is easy to reach from the lodge and Holger was a great help organizing our visit of th park. We would highly recommend staying here!

Thokozani was exactly what we wanted after plane from the UK and a car journey from Johannesburg. It provides solitude in a beautiful very large garden with a swimming pool to relax in when overheated. The lodge we stayed in was comfy and we slept well with birds to listen to in the mornings once awake.
Breakfast is served overlooking the garden and pool and was very tasty. Fruit salad yoghurt, cheese meat and bread on offer with eggs and bacon if desired which way you wanted it cooking.
Holger our host was extremely helpful and friendly and we enjoyed our chats with him.

I was well informed on the location of the lodge and it was easy to find even though it is a little out of White River. On arrival we were greeted by the Manager and given all the information necessary. The room was very comfortable and had the necessary equipment for a self catering room. The surrounding area is so tranquil and peaceful where one can sit and enjoy nature as if you almost out in the bush. Breakfast is also available should one want. Great place to stay out of the hussel and bussel of the town.

Holger is an amazing host, incredibly friendly and always looking for opportunities to show more hospitality. He was incredibly accommodating to our ever-changing schedule, and always following up to see how he could add more value to our stay with him.

We stayed at Thokozani Lodge in Jan 2022 for a single night en route to the Kruger Park. We had booked our stay year before but had to cancel because of lockdown, and when we rebooked Holger our wonderful host carried over our deposit even though we never expected this of him.
On both booking occasions, Holger responded almost immediately and provided us with all the information we needed.
The lodge is simply beautiful. The rondawels are surrounded by huge trees in a beautiful garden setting, so typical of the lowveld, with a serene pool and abundant bird life. We braai'ed outside in the evening and it was simply lovely.
The cottage inside was very clean and comfortable and we felt very safe. We had everything we needed to self cater and our host Holger was there with anything that we needed (including cold beers) but ar the same time inobtrusive.
The lodge is beautiful and the accommodation is so reasonable too. We would have loved to stayed longer.
It was a perfect stop en route to the Kruger, but also a great spot for those Kruger visitors wanting to stay outside the park.
