This boutique hotel is perfect in every way. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable in all aspects, immaculate, highly secure behind a gated entrance, and the service provided by Cherill was incredible. The food was ample and excellent. It is a short 25 minute drive from Kruger airport. The Watusi cattle next door are a bonus! We highly recommend this place to stay in White River.

This place inside a gated community is amazing. We were welcomed at the parking lot with the sweetest woman. She invited us in and offered us a drink. Then she showed us to our room. After relaxing a bit in our beautiful room. Our room had an indoor and a outdoor shower, a deep soaking tub and a beautiful patio. The lobby area is beautiful and it has a view of the pool which is nice. She also made dinner reservations for us and she personally made us a delicious breakfast the next morning. I’ve never had better service in a hotel setting.

Small cozy hotel where we felt like at home. Very close by to many touristic places and you can do many excursions, Kruger park included, and also the Panorama route. Food was also delicious. Highly recommended.

Position, quality, service good
Cuisine. Evening dinner very good.
Breakfast satisfactory.
Air con. Not available. Given the position being very hot/humid and for a high end establishment air con should be a must. Even if there is an additional charge of say R100 a night, would guess for the additional comforting this should be a must. Although the very helpful staff did supply a portable air con which did assist with the heat but not as fully satisfactory.

We spent just one night at Schneiders before returning to the UK after a 2 month holiday. The stay was super. The real 'stand out' for us was the Manageress who was superb in every way. The rooms are extremely spacious and very comfortable/well planned. Security was excellent.

Fantastic place in White River. The rooms are amazing, the service impeccable, and the place is very secure (behind a gated security post). We loved our stay here, and the beautiful ambiance of the hotel. The Wifi was great, the beds comfortable, and the swimming pool was fun. The food was delicious with numerous choices. Highly recommend.

Amazingly Good ! Love the decor, spaciousness, food and staff. Access gate staff need an attitude adjustment klap, acknowledging that they have a job to do, they could still do it with a smile. Cherol did everything she could possibly do to make our stay enjoyable.

For everyone's info, hereunder copy of the mail I sent to Booking.com about my failed stay at Schneider's guest house.

Initial response from Booking.com was sympathetic, but initial handling of the complaint was very disorganised. Spoke with a different person each time I called. Then, I got one sole interlocutor, but she would not do anything other than froward my complaint to the hotel. They would not apply pressure on the hotel. They actually work FOR the hotel, not for the guests.

The result of all this, is that I got no refund, despite Schneider's initial offer for full refund, then partial refund, then no refund at all.

Booking.com was of no help. Here is what they have to say "Moreover, please be advised that Booking.com operates as a disclosed agent for third party suppliers. This means that the contract for the accommodation is between you and the hotel. The charge processed by the Schneider's Guest House is a transaction that Booking.com was not a functioning party in."

Mail sent to booking.com:

"This email sent from White River in South Africa to express our deep frustration and dissatisfaction.
Please read and pass on to Schneider’s guest house.
1) I made a booking via your website using my Amex card for guarantee. Booking was confirmed.
2) Upon realising that Schneider’s did accept only Visa/Master card, I enquired with yourselves, since the booking included a prepayment.
• I was told that Schneider’s would get back to you requesting a Visa/Master Card number and I had nothing to do.
• I did so and waited several days.
3) Without news neither from you nor from Schneider’s, I phoned them in South Africa to be told that they were expecting you to charge my Amex and transfer the monies to them.
4) I contacted you again and you confirmed it would not be the case.
 Why I did not give up at this stage is still a mystery to me. It was obvious there was something wrong with this place...
5) You then contacted Schneider’s to straighten things out
6) I then was honest enough to give our Master Card number to make sure they would charge the deposit, because I was concerned that otherwise, they would not honour the booking!!!
• Wouldn’t have it made more sense THEY made the effort to ensure booking was complete and confirmed without stress for the guests?
7) I did not receive any word of thanks or confirmation from Schneider’s, despite sending the message that this trip was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of my friend and business partner’s parents.
• Maybe they were considering that the guests had to make the effort to go and stay with them, not them do their best to have the guest come to their place?
8) When we arrived in White River today, we did not find a single signposting showing the way to Schneider’s, despite going passed Oliver’s restaurant as I had read before.
• Maybe here too, they expect the guest to make the effort to find their place?
9) I phoned them at great roaming expense to be told without a word of welcome or apology, that I had to go back on the same road and enter White River Country Estate (some kind of high security residential area).
10) Back on the road, and at the gate, to be told that we had to go to another gate (the “main” gate).
• Schneider’s did not bother to inform us there were two gates!
11) Back on the road and to the “main” gate to be greeted by security guards who had no clue who we were.
• We had to spell our name and wait for ever to be “cleared”
12) Once cleared, we asked for directions.
• The guards did not show much enthusiasm, talked between themselves and told us to go through the gate and they would explain passed the gate.
13) We passed the gate and the guard went off, leaving us in the car.
One would have thought that Schneider’s would have done the effort to explain properly how to go to their place, that there were two gates for example.
One would have thought that Schneider’s would have informed security that they were expecting guests.
One would have hoped that Schneider’s would have gone in person to the gate to greet and accompany the guests to their place.
 Schneider’s did none of that.
Faced with this situation, not knowing how long this would last, not knowing where we would end up, we decided to turn back and look for another place.

I am therefore asking you to forward this message to Schneider’s Guest house and insist with them that they refund in full the deposit they were able to charge us only because we insisted to give Schneider’s our Master Card number, when Schneider’s did not seem to be bothered enough to ask for it.
We have not been able to find the place and Schneider’s did not do anything neither to greet us nor to help us find their place.
I have so far been happy with the services of Booking.com and trusted the establishments listed on your website, so please let me know what Schneider’s response has been."

NB: The cherry on the pie is that Schneider's guest house charged 100% of the stay at the time of reservation (ZAR 3200) instead of 50% as should be per conditions of reservations. So I could not even block the credit card for the remainder of the charges. don(t trust Schneider's guest house and give them your credit card details. Try and stay with them if you wish to stay in a high security residential compound, but don't give them the opportunity to use your credit card details.

I spent two nights (14-16, March, 2014) at Schneider's Guest House with one of my collegue, who is a good friend as well. Our main objective was to find a nice place to stay from where we easily can get to the Kruger Park. We booked our rooms online about a month prior to the trip, one night per each was immediately charged as per their policy. I did not like to this to be honest but I do understand that some locations might be overbooked so they want some security for the owners.

We came from Pretoria, using GPS which took about 4 hours to get to White River, when we arrived there it was dark, so we could not really see any sign (if there is any at all), just blindly followed the device. It took us to a gate to this restricted aream (Upland), within the Guest House is located, but at the gate the guard told us that we cannot use this gate for whatever reason, so we have to go back and find the other one. Frankly we were a bit pissed, did not understand the reason behind but you don't argue with someone holding a gun, so headed to the other entrace gate, where the guards checked our surnames and called the hotel whether we are really guests or not. Prior to that spending a week in Pretoria, we understood the security is for our own safety as we are in, so we did not mind this procedure at all. After confirmation, the guards told us in where do we find the guess house, which was a bit complicated but we could manage by our own without any misroute.

As we parked in front of the hotel, which looked very very nice outside just like all the buildings and the gardens within this area. The lady who is in charge to run the place (called Adrienne) came out to welcome us, invited us to have a drink at the bar, and wanted to help us with the luggage as well. The guest house is a small jewelry box, as it have only 6 rooms. There is a lobby, a lounge area combined with their own restaurant, just next to the swimming pool, which has a special blue light under the water, that makes the whole view even more amazing. In the back there is a nice garden, which can be enjoyed in the daylight.

After having a beer, she showed us our rooms. Both (room 1 and 2) looked exactly the same, they are huge, just the room is about 60 sqm, with TV, hifi, fireplace, nice bed, sofa, chair, separate area of gardrobe with safedeposit. Wifi is available. The bathroom has huge corner tab and also a huge shower, separate restrooms (open from the bathroom), and also the 'African shower', which is an open-air, absolut modern and professional but totally isolated (belongs only to the room) shower place, so you can enjoy having a shower under the stars or even when the sun rises. It is an amazing experience. I highly recommend to try it. Also a patio belongs to the rooms, where you can sit out and enjoy your evening cherry alone or with your friends/loves.

The level of service we received during the dining was excellent, top-notch. We felt like we are from a royal family or so. Adrienne's attention on us was permanent all time long when we were at the lounge/restaurant but she could keep distance when she felt like we needed it. Frankly speaking we did not even take a look at the menu, we let Adrienne to offer a 4 course meal for both dinners, which we just accepted. The food and also the wine were good.

We also booked via the hotel a guided safari tour to the Kruger which was also a great choice, it was 980 ZAR per person but was basically a full day trip, started at 6.00 am and we were back at the hotel at 17.00 pm, and also the experience and adventure was excellent.

On the way to leave we even received some small supply for the long trip back to Pretoria, which was very kind of her.

All in all, this place is a great location for couple of days just to chill and be served in an extremely beautiful environment. Also a perfect location to do day-long trip to the Kruger park, so I highly recommend the place. If I ever come back to here, would not stay anywhere but Schneider's!

Stayed there for 4 nights, a party of 5 adults and 2 kids. The hotel not crowded has a personal touch from reception to breakfast and dinner time. The owner personally attended to our needs and menu. Played golf on the on site. Will definetly go back and is highly recommended.
