Balcony Manor is a good guest house for a traveller needing to stay over for one or two evenings. Very attractive from outside and the rooms are not bad. There are however a number of rooms, some of which are better than others. I suggest ask to see the rooms before checking in to make sure you get a bigger and more modern one. Service and breakfast is good, but bookings are sometimes muddled up when you arrive.

A room away from home is a room away from home. The rooms here do just fine. What makes this place extraordinary is the family that owns and runs it … especially the mother. What an amazing mensch! I arrived at very short notice for a week of business in Nelspruit. I am vegan. They’re not and have never had to cater for a vegan. Jenny took it upon herself to personally make my food for the week. I had gourmet food for the entire week! :D With delicious health smoothies for breakfast, made by Drew, the daughter. I see in the comments that someone named Andre had some bad luck. Stuff happens. But when I mentioned that the Wi-Fi was slow, they immediately connected me to something else, which solved the problem. All in all, a lovely place with a lovely atmosphere and real people who walk around barefoot and make one feel at home. And, did I mention the amazing conversations around the dinner table? This is not a holiday destination place, but you know what? I’ll definitely stay there again, even if I was holidaying in the area.

I would like to thank the Balcony Manor I had the best welcome at the guesthouse, the food was always the best. The rooms are clean and the best it makes you feel so at home. I would like to thank Balcony Manor reception, welcome, people and staff who contribute to assisting and making the food and a pleasant stay.
I have been at Balcony Manor 5 times and in different rooms and always found the rooms clean and very tidy.
I would like to comment on the comment which was made about the floors being dirty I have been in several rooms and never found the floors dirty. I am not sure about the photo as it seems to be very misleading.
Thanks for the stay Balcony Manor staff

You are treated as an honoured guest in this large elegant house. The public rooms are spacious, elegant and full of antiques. Breakfast was beautifully presented. The owners were incredibly helpful. Most visitors have a car - we didn't and they were happy to drive us to a restaurant in town in the evening. The landscaped pool and gardens are very attractive. We were offered a choice of television channels available from the local cable company including the British Sky News which was vey much appreciated as we are from London and had been cut off from the news in Kruger Park for five days

We stayed at Balcony Manor from 10 - 12 October 2014. Staff was very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Room seemed nice however on closer inspection we realised that the tile floors in the room was very dirty. On the Saturday morning we complained and apparently they cleaned the room but on Saturday evening we did the same test and although it was cleaner it still was far from clean - we have small children that play on the floor!!! Photo attached. Definitely not 4 star is what we said!

We booked with Balcony Manor for a family holiday in Dec. Online the property looked charming. Further reassured by their '4 star' rating we decided to give it a try. On arrival we were given a rather sour greeting - not in keeping with the warm welcome one would expect from a guesthouse.
Unfortunately rather than being charming - this lodging reminded me of my 90 year old grandmother's home. The rooms were strange to say the least. The room intended for my parents in law - had an old sunken bath framed by pillars in the main bedroom. The shower was old and tiles - unsavoury. Every lounge chair on the patio looking onto the pool had a gaping hole in the middle. So you couldn't sit on your patio if you wanted to! The televisions in the rooms are placed in a corner right up near the ceiling - which would make any television viewing an uncomfortable experience.

We walked straight out and into White River, to find ourselves alternative accommodation. When we explained our disappointment at this clearly not being a 4 star offering - they simply shrugged and accepted our feedback without any real remorse at losing a client. Nor did they offer to give us even a nominal amount of our moneys back, which we had paid in full for 7 days (even though the place was clearly empty).

Very disappointing and misleading!

Our room was very spacious & pretty. Victorian bath in the middle of the room was awesome & unique! Staff were very accommodating and the breakfast was a full English breakfast, more than enough food! :) It's definitely worth a stay & we will be back!

My home away from home. I stay there every three weeks and just love every time.

Always made to feel so welcome.

Really good value for money.

Comfortable room with fridge, aircon, TV, nicely furnished and absolutely clean.

What a delightful experience. Stienie and the staff made us feel so welcome, even after we had special requests. I’m an avid woodsman, and truly enjoyed the craft and history behind some of the furniture pieces.
We visited quite a few of the surrounding areas. We were able to access the main roads easily and find our way around. White river has a good cluster of culture and nifty little places to eat and see
A trip and a guesthouse I would easily recommend!
